Pros: Gorgeous, rides great, CHEAP, great brakes Cons: need parts to go real fast, lacks aftermarket options of R6/R1
I love the sport of motorcycling. When I went in to buy my new sportbike (and consider that I owned a ton of bikes before, from Harleys to Ducatis to Viragos and GSXR's) I felt like a kid in a candy store. I loved the front ends of the GSXR and Ninja...
Pros: good bang for you buck, comfortable, well rounded, and fun! Cons: transmission is annoying, older design.
This is my second street bike that I've owned and the first brand new one I have bought. Seeing as i can't afford a car and I only need transportation in the summer months a bike made the most sense for my situation. I have owned several off road bikes ...
Pros: Well Rounded; Enough Cash Leftover For Gas; Knockout Looks Cons: People Will Say... 'Its not the R6'
My second bike, and have had for a little while now. I can't get over how sweet it is. Every *day* I'm annoying my friends about what a nice bike it is. You'll only have to read this once.
I don't recommend picking up a 600 class bike, if its...
Pros: inexpensive, forgiving, comfortable, smooth, stable, powerful Cons: outdated styling, heavy, poor wind protection for tall people
Well, now i's time to do a review on my YZF600R, as I traded it in for a CBR600RR, so now I can really compare the Yamaha to something else. I bought YZF as my first bike, so I don't think any review from such a beginner would have credability. Now after ...
Pros: price, quality, performance, appearance, brakes Cons: tranny takes a bit of getting used to
I purchased a 2000 YZF600r after owning a Yamaha VStar 650 Classic. I wanted something with more punch and more stopping power. After test riding many 600's (F4-TT600-ZX6R-R6) , I found that the YZF600r had all the qualities...
Pros: Reliable, Comfortable, Easy to ride Cons: Unstable, Brakes, Performance
My wife and I bought a Yamaha YZF600R in '97, in order to replace our old Suzuki GS550L. The new bike proved to be a very reliable and comfortable all-rounder for street use, but we soon found out the limits this bike had.
Pros: Almost all of the functions of the R6 at a lower price Cons: Doesn't have quite the power or handling of the R6
Just under a year ago I bought a Yamaha YZFR6 and have been loving it ever since. The handling is unreal, the power is more than I would have ever expected from a 600cc bike, and the looks of envy I get when I ride with people are definitely...
Pros: Fuel economy ,low to mid range torque, easy to work on, good top end. Cons: A bit heavy when pushing the bike in tight spaces
The 600R with a little carby and pipe work and suspension set up can be one of the best 600 out there, but this doesn't mean you have to do this if you don't want to! my mate has a 2000 ZX9RE1 and we swapped bikes one day and he was amazed with the...
Pros: A wonderful all around sports bike Cons: A little on the hefty side, Ergonomics need work
A little over a year ago I purchased my 2001 YZF600R. It has been nothing but fun since! It is a wonderful all around sport tour bike. With much more sport than tour the bike's comfortable riding position/stability, peppy in line four(that red lines a...
Pros: All around user friendly fast bike. Cons: People will say, "Oh, it's not a R6"
I do not own a 600R, only have ridden one belonging to a friend. My experience is on a much more powerful and heavy 900cc sportbike, but this little bike absolutely amused me. Alot of people may say, If you are gonna get a 600 Yamaha, get the R6. If...
Pros: Everything about it! Cons: Seat is just a little to tall, and fairing removal for the oil change
I bought my 98 YZF 600R in Nov. of 98, and have never regretted it at all. The bike is just incredible. I have run over 12,000 miles on the YZF in the first year alone. The bike gets great gas mileage (Average about 52 MPG) The power in the lower end...
Pros: Comfortable, stable, affordable, sporty yet very streetable. Cons: Heavy, fairings difficult to remove, clunky gearbox.
I've owned the YZF600R for 6 months now. It was my first bike and I squeezed every ounce out of my meager student earnings to get it. For a beginner sportbike, it doesn't disappoint. First, it is very comfortable. The seat on this bike is like a sofa...
Pros: Sports Bike Style, Power, Solid Feel, Cheaper price tag then others in 600cc family. Cons: Very heavy, Can be a bit too power for new riders, Little High
Bought in 4/1/04 This review is based on the following, I am: -28 -5'7" -140lbs -novice rider -risky car driver, risk averse motorcycle rider -want to be a stunta, but dont have the 8@LL$ -want approx 600cc bike -want the sport bike styling ...
Pros: Comfort, adjustable suspension, good gas mileage. Cons: Maintenance is expensive.
A little background to start with, I'm 35, 5'9", 135 pounds and bought this bike two and a half years ago. After an MSF course (a must have(!) but a review for another page), two months of intensive research and shopping I decided this was the bike ...
Pros: ROCK solid bike Cons: misses 1st to 2nd upshift occasionally under hard throttle
Ladies and gentlemen, this is the best 600cc bike sold in the united states bar none!! Now I may be a little biased in saying this because my YZF 600R is sitting quielty in my garage right now but let me let the facts speak for themselves...
Pros: Great feel, smooth power, sharp looks Cons: 1st to 2nd a little sketchy under power, a little heavy
This bike is great, I bought it as my first and I dont think I'll be selling it anytime soon. It's a 00' black and gray paint scheme. I got it with only 700mi! The power: I know it doesnt make the kind of power of an r6 or a cbr but I ride with friends...
If your looking for cheap speed this is the bike for you. You got almost all the power from the YZF-R6 but more wieght. this is a great first bike. it is very fast and comfortable. it has an in-line four cylinder with 16 valves. this bike has the...
Pros: Great looks, comfortable, inexpensive... Cons: High weight and lower performance compared to others in class.
I bought this bike after owning a 1995 model of the same bike. You just can't possibly go wrong with the thing. First off, its the most comfortable sportbike that you can buy. Second off, despite its slightly heavier weight compared to other similar...
Pros: Comfortable, less pricey than other similarly performing 600s, looks Cons: Notchy Gearchange, overlooked in the light of newer 600s
Having looked at every other 600 in the market I wanted a bike that provided comfortable ergonomics. Being my first sportbike ever and not having ridden for nearly 4 years, I felt instantly "at home" just minutes after riding away from the dealership. I...
Pros: looks great, easy to ride, performs well with just a few parts, totally reliable Cons: uh, its not an R6 but comfort makes up for that
Well first i'm going to tell you this is my first bike and i love riding. I cant stop, its the best sport i have gotten into. I am a beginner rider, started on 7-12-02, and have to say this bike is easy and very smooth. If you had riden a bike...
Pros: suprisingly fast, agile, reliable Cons: handlebars too low, clunky transmision, ugly black exhaust
I was looking for a brand new 2006 motorcycle for the sole purpose of commuting to work 70 miles each way. I wanted something that was sporty but comfortable for my commute. I didnt want a naked bike so my choices were the Kawasaki ZZR600, Honda F4i, ...
Pros: Handling, Sporty, Style, Economical Cons: A bit heavy compared to other 600's
I originally purchased this motorcycle from a friend who owns a car dealership. I had purchased it without every trying it, let alone seeing it (I trusted my friend’s opinion.) When I first saw it, I wasn’t expecting something that gorgeous. As this was...
This motorcycle is a great bike in many ways. It has a slick body style and gives you a comfortable ride with the power you need when you need it. The bike has a smooth ride and adjustable forks and has the braking power you need to stop on the dot. The...
i have had this bike since may 2000. i traded in my 91 FJ1200 for this bike. What the 600 lacks in torque it makes up in handling. This little 600 has GREAT power in the upper ranges of the tach. I went on a few long trips with it and it was great....
Pros: Can you say comfy? Cons: None that I've discovered
I decided to buy a YZF600R after reading Epinion reviews of several different bikes across a range of years. The key that stood out in my mind is that folks seemed to think that this bike was fun to ride as well as (and perhaps more importantly) that it...
Pros: Handling, confotability Cons: hard to find parts i my part of Sweden
I have just swaped my old Honda CBR 900 RR Fireblade - 92 to just this bike you see above. I just had too have this bike after i tried it out at a Motorcycle dealer i my town.
I just love the momentum of this bike the speed and flexibility. Perhapps...
Pros: excellent bike, good for racing Cons: steep price, but what do you expect right?
This is my second bike i've ever gotten, and I'm pleased with it.Its definitely not the best, but good enough for a racer like myself. My former bike, the Kawasaki ninja has a lot of the same qualities as this bike, only the yamaha YZF is more extensive. ...
Pros: Great Brakes, Reliability, Comfort, Handling and Plenty of Power. Cons: Styling is getting a little old due to no changes in almost 10 years.
I was in the market for a beginner bike and I looked at all of the 600cc Sport bikes. The Honda CBR600, the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R, Ninja 626, Suzuki GSX-R600, and the Yamaha R6. The 1st place I went was my Local Yamaha dealer who showed me the R6 which is ...
Pros: Fast as Lighting Cons: still they havent come with the concept of total power , but the lift is great
One thing that Yamaha has always had was i great top end switch, And what Yamaha always likes to do is put alot of the horsepower into a great engine. If ya know 2 cycle engines then you have to know that smaller the chamber size and more define the...
Pros: Reasonable price
Definitely well balance
Fast enough for street use
Cons: I have not noticed any
I just bought this new 2001 bike. I come from a Ninja EX500R looking for more power. Nothing wrong with the Ninja. If you rev it form 5-10K, it responds to your need.
I was considering the YZF600R and the CBR600F4i, after some research and...
Pros: Comfort, handling, great looks, and great handling. Cons: Alittle on the heavy side, shifting from 1st to second.
I have been riding a cruiser for about 2 years and wanted a change of pace. I did not want something to powerful and was looking for a comfortable entrance into world of sport bikes. I went to the dealer who would have sold me a Hayabusa if I wanted one ...
Pros: Great looks. Great ride. Overall awesome bike. Cons: None in my opinion, besides maybe some minor cosmetic infiorities to the R1 and R6.
I love this bike. The first thing that drew me to it are its sleek curves but what sucked me in is its blinding speed. This bike blew my expectations out of the water. I have ridden earlier 90's modified YZF600rs and these new ones for some reason just...
Great First Motorcycle! I would recommend! by whoapony ,Jul 29 '04
Pros: Good Looks, Quick, Powerful, cheap insurance Cons: a little heavy
I purchased this motorcycle as my first, it was a pleasure to ride. I had a few modifications to it, exhaust, k and n jet kit. The bike was very fast for a first motorcycle. My friends ride suzuki 750's and I was able to keep up well on winding country roads at high speed. It is a little heavy, but it carries it's weight well, meaning you can not feel it when moving. I think it is a nice looking bike and I found it to be cheaper on insurance. Definitely recommend, I miss mine, baby forced sale. I also owned a Ninja 500R and rode my friends suzuki. I almost forgot, very comfortable.
Pros: comfy, fast, cheap, did I say cheap Cons: the shift from 1st to 2nd is a bit clunky.
I have had this bike for about 2 yrs now, it is comfy, fast, fun, and cheap. I have a aftermarket slip on and a K&N and that helps with the performance down falls still not a R6 but it works well for me
One Bad Bike from Yamaha by rayder32224 ,Nov 19 '03
Pros: comfort, handling, fun to ride Cons: weak shocks for very aggressive riders
1st thing that comes to mind is, "Yamaha, please don't stop production on this bike!" The YZF 600R has got to be one of the best all around bikes made to this date! I've owned 2 motorcycles prior; both Ninja's and they were great bikes: but, this is by far the best all around bike. It inspires confidence in the rider, and seems to have the ability to correct small errors made by the rider. It is not the quickest or fastest bike on the market, but this is the only bike I've ever rode that red lined its top gear in stock form! (thumbs up Yamaha) My only modifications were tires: (Pirelli Diablos) greatly improved handling over the stock tires. This is my 15th year in riding motorcycles, and I'm not naive enough to say this is the best bike on the market, but, equate price, Yamaha reliability, fun factor, and the great look of the bike itself, and I have to repeat, "Yamaha, don't stop production of this bike!" I believe you have a winner here!
Pros: Affordable, easy to modify, most comfortable out there for rider. Cons: Speeding tickets. Passengers seem to like cruisers more.
I bought this bike because I wanted a comfortable bike with lots of power and speed. I got what I wanted.
Great bike for the price, and insurance that won't bust your bank.
Great bike! It is fine the way it is, but here are my suggested improvements that are well worth the $$$. Get a slip-on exhaust and have the carbs adjusted and/or rejetted on a dyno. Change the sprockets to 14 teeth front, 49 rear. Change to high quality lighter 520 chain and sprockets if you are willing to change the chain as well. If you never want to miss second, get a shift kit made by factory pro, before you need a clutch. Change your grips to progrips gel grips for a better feel without pain or black hands. You may want to add frame sliders before you drop it. I wish I did. For added safety, a headlight modulator makes your headlight blink, and is legal in all 50 states during daylight.
There are plenty of cosmetic changes available to personalize this bike as well. I'd also suggest disc locks for security, at the bare minimum.
