Pros: Maybe the best handling sportbike of all, addictive top end power Cons: Feels overly high strung at less than 8/10ths, racer ergonomics
As a rule, the 600 sport class is motorcycling's fountain of youth. Occasionally you might find a old geezer like yr.obt.svt. on a Honda F4 or a 30-something weekend racer (the real kind-as in on a real racetrack) riding a Suzuki GSXR. But we have to...
Pros: Strong engine, great handling, good looks Cons: touchy throttle and transmission
No, not a personal ad, I'm talking about the Yamaha R6.
If you're reading this, you've probably already done the research on the specs, so we'll just jump straight to the "Fun Factor" This thing is a blast to ride! You won't be...
Pros: Beautiful, light, powerful Cons: tire valve hard to reach, wrists hurt after long ride
How I became the owner
I've owned a motorcycle for 13 of my 35 years. My 91 Kawasaki ZX-7 was beginning to feel a little long in the tooth, so I started looking for a replacement. At first I didn't want a bike at all, I wanted an Acura Integra...
Pros: Performance, Style, Handling Cons: The Police!...Rain!! and a notchy gearbox
The R6 is a marvel in engineering. I bought my black and silver UK bike in march 1999..although i had a pretty good idea of what to expect nothing could have prepared me for the complete satisfaction of owning a YZF.
Pros: Bike of the Year 2000...need I say more? Cons: are there any??
I was recently looking to purchase my first sport bike, and a friend recommended that I look at the R6. At first I was hesitant, because I had never heard of it before, unlike the more common Honda CBR F4. But I decided to take my friend's opinion and...
Pros: Great acceleration; great turning; stylish looks; extra 5k rpms Cons: Sore wrists, at first; costs $1000 more; save some money for the tickets
I could explain to you all about the specifics of the Yamaha R6. All about the engine and the frame.....but I will supply you with a link to Yamaha's official home page and the spec. page for the R6. It can be found...
Pros: Greatly enhanced. Same high revving engine all 50 states. Same price as last year's model. Cons: Not enough wind protection and typical wrist strain (expected). Red flames cost $100 extra.
This is one seriously fast sporting machine. They just don't get much better than this. Visually topping the 2003 YZF-R6 model year changes are two new color choices - Liquid Silver and Black with red flames. The latter is a bit flamboyant for some...
Pros: it is very fast and handles like a dream. Oh, and it is a pretty color! Cons: I cannot afford to buy one!
I just got the wildest ride in my life from a guy on one of these bikes. I have ridden on the back of a Harley before, but never on one of these sport bikes.
He was telling me that the bike weighs about 350 pounds and has like 100...
Pros: Great if you spend all day in a canyon Cons: Dealer has them & you pay dearly for it.
I will not go into the specifics and intricacies of the R6, go to the Yamaha website for that. Yes, the R6 is excellent when doing what it was designed for, but for an all around great motorcycle, it lacks much. You may read all about how well it will...
Pros: Great handiling Cons: hands hurt after long rides
Everything you've read about this bike is true, and how. On paper, it's got 28 more horses than my ZX-7, and weighs about 120lbs less fully wet. There is no waiting on this bike to do anything. Twist the throttle, the revs willingly zing from idle to...
Make no mistake the R6 (or any other crotch-rocket for that matter) is not meant for those looking to go on nice long rides. The stiff suspension makes for a hard ride and the riding position is awkward. But if you like speed and tight handling... you...
Pros: Chicks dig it! Cons: Blink and they are gone!
This bike is a bad to the bone bike. I bought this bike because I wanted the best. This bike is the best in my eyes as well as many other sportbike magazines across the nation. Not only does it look good, but it handles like a dream. The faster...
Pros: Light weight, no trouble at high speeds Cons: Not too great for touring gets uncomfortable after 3 hours or so
Motorcycles has become one of my hobbies over the years, and although I love Harleys etc. this bike is one heck of a sports bike. From the powerful engine to the light weight it is a beautiful bike. The people that made this bike did an excellent job...
Pros: Huge top speed, and great handling. Cons: No power on bottom end of the powerband.
The Yamaha YZF 600 R-1 is probably the fastest of the 600 cc
superbikes that were released in 1999. Riding the R-6 is a real pleasure.
To begin, when you sit on this machine it almost seems to wrap around you.
Almost like you...
The yamaha R6 is absolutely the most badarse 600cc bike ever built. It has good torque all through the rev-range, but its top end horsepower is like no other 600 on the market. The handling is extremely precise and responsive, and its rigid chassis...
Pros: Fast, powerful, great deal for a sportbike. Cons: Not the most comfortable.
The Yamaha R6 is the first motorcycle I have owned. I wanted a 600cc class sport bike and found that the R6 is one of the best. After choosing to get a R6, I was very pleased with the bike. I have been driving it for a year now and I feel I have ...
Pros: Fast, Lightweight, Manuverable Cons: Not very many
The Yamaha R-6 is the baddest bike in production right now in the 600cc class. I currently own one and I love it more than any motorcycle I have ever ridden. I currently own the 1999 model and it was the best 600cc in 99'. Although, this year, Suzuki...
Pros: Lightweight, Potent engine, unbelievable handling, real eye catcher. Cons: Uncomfortable after long periods of time in the saddle, pricey, uncomfortable riding with a passenger.
For as long as I can remember Ive been attracted to sport bikes. After I got my drivers license and had been driving for about a year or so I began to pry at my parents to give me permission to buy a sportbike. When the idea was first brought up ...
Pros: Awesome Handling and Powerband Cons: The seats are in bad need of more padding
Most of my friends were shocked to see me get this bike. I grew up riding YZ/CR 80's and then bought a new Banshee last year. Every time I ride this thing I get off swearing I should mix gas and oil for it. It has one wild powerband. It rides much...
Pros: The absolute best handling sportbike. a strikingly beautiful bike Cons: clunky Yamaha tranny, not for touring
This is probably the absolute best bike you can buy for the money. I would say it is probably one the best bikes you can buy for any price. the handling is superb, this bike has some major balls for a 600, the breaking has a feel that makes you feel...
Pros: There is nothing better on the market for the money. Cons: Jerky gear box feel. No real under-seat storage.
I was in the market for a new sport bike and was not sure exactly what to buy. There were so many choices out there from 600cc to 1000cc bikes, with so many different manufactures' selling them. All of this made the decision process seem impossible. Well...
Pros: Light & ultra responsive with the feeling of a GP bike Cons: To date i have found none
Finally a bike that does what it has been said to do .Yamaha has it the nail on the head with this fine example a motorcycling art on wheels. The R6 is by far the best purchase i have made $7900.00 is a very acceptable amount to pay for so much fun. It...
Pros: fast, looks nice, and gets up and gos Cons: cost
2001 YZF-R6
In 1999 the YZF-R6 was named "Best 600cc Streetbike" by cycle world. "Bike of the year" by Sport Rider. It has recieved perfect 10 for power delivery, suspension, brakes, and...
Pros: The 2001 R6 has great looks, very quick and light Cons: a little to quick, quiet muffler
After reading and searching for my new bike, I became interested in the R6. I've look at the Ducati 750 Supersport, the CBR 600 and the regular YZF 600 and this bike is the best for the money. For 2001, this was the only bike updated this year....
Pros: Razor like handling, nimble, quick, sexy. Cons: Unforgiving and allergic to squids
I feel particularly qualified to rate sport bikes. I have raced 3 different models of Yamaha R6's to 8 Formula USA Championship Cup Series Championships. I have also been an instructor at the world famous California Superbike School teaching how to ride ...
Pros: "Best shoot-out bike for 2000" Cons: -----------------------------------
Never thought that I would definatly consider wanting a Yamaha sport bike, but after riding one just the other day,I know that I'am going to put a deposit down when the time is right. Very affordable and definatly a comfortable ride. I wouldnt be able to...
All around, quite possibly the best all around bike ever made. Superb handling, excellent balance, and break-neck accleration. The R6 also looks great.
The r6 will keep both the novice and and expert driver entertained and proud of their...
This bike was made for one specific purpose--Go fast!
I do not recommend this bike to people who are afraid of speed. Off the start you'll notice a heavy torque to the rear. This is designed to get you moving as soon as possible. I...
Pros: Very Controllable and Exciting Cons: Not Much you can add to change
Yamaha R6 a great bike for the money. Yamaha's R6 is for the type of rider who is looking for a motorcycle that can keep up with all the big boy's out there. The R6 is very much compared to the R1,Except for the motors. The R6 is 599cc and comes in two...
Pros: light weight, flickable, power, chicks love this bike Cons: non-f/i, the mirrors suck d1ck, your girl will become jealous
this is the bike to get if your are a seasoned rider and are not intimidated by open liter bikes. it is bar none, the best handleling bike out there minus factory rides. the engine is amazing. i get an average of 130mi before the light turns on. power is...

Best all-around performer out there by sr885bk ,Aug 10 '06
Pros: Looks, Speed, Handling, FUN FACTOR, Brakes, Fuel Injection Cons: Wimpy exhaust, No low-end power, uncomfortable for long rides, quickly obsolete, common bike
I bought my special edition silver w/black flames off the showroom floor in 2004 and a dream came true. I've owned about 7 (and ridden about 7 more) motorcycles in the 4 years I've been riding(Suzuki rf-900 and Katana 600, CBR1000, Honda VTR are some sportsbikes) and I've got to say the R6 is definately the best all around performer. I've ridden faster, bigger bikes but they have poor handling. I've ridden smaller bikes with similar handling (As the R6) but they severely lacked power and style. The high-revving engine, programmable shift light and the full race riding position constantly remind you that you are on the machine that dominates the road and track. The only downside is that every year, the R6 gets better (the '06 is completely new and simply ridiculous ;-D) so if you want to stay on top, you have to trade up constantly ($$$.) Sadly mine was stolen (no insurance) but I will buy another without a doubt. Make sure you keep up on maintenence
Clutch Slippage a common problem by dfichtner ,Jul 08 '04
Pros: See above Cons: See above
Many riders of 1999-2003 R6s are experiencing clutch slippage problems at 10,000 and 12,000 RPMs. Please check this site for further review. Some are so angry about it, they are talking class-action lawsuit because Yamaha refuses to stand by their product and recall it.
Pros: great bike fast Cons: chic magnet wife doesn't like that
i bought a
2001 yzf r6 an this is a great bike it has 8,454 miles on it an the paint job is good this is my first bike an i would recommend it to everyone
