Pros: Styling, engine performance good for a four, roomy, nice cloth Cons: Still feels downscale compared to Accord and Camry, awful fake wood, high price The Bottom Line: Looks nice and thoroughly competent, but more expensive than superior competitors. The changes for 2005 help, but the price needs to come down about $2,000.
It makes me happy when changes I suggest in my reviews are later implemented by vehicle manufacturers. So the recently introduced 2005 Nissan Altima should make me very happy. When reviewing the car in 2002 I found a number of things I did not like, ...

Pros: Sweet torque band, grippy tires, and a comfortable, accommodating (if un-subtle) interior. Cons: Feels its weight, fights at the wheel, flops through the gears. The Bottom Line: The SE-R package has its appeal, but doesn't transform the Altima into something unexpected. It drives as it looks--like a family car with a "Fast and the Furious" makeover.
My Experience When the current Altima made its first appearance in 2002, the automotive press was quick to applaud its newfound sportiness. They even went so far as to deem the 3.5 SE a high-performance bargain in family-sedan clothes. I wasn't ...

Pros: Very well equipped at a very good price. Cons: MPG... it's in line with similar models, but I want better. The Bottom Line: Great car at a great price! I want better mpg than 20 years ago.
I just bought a 2005 Altima a few months ago and it is the most luxurious car I have ever owned. (That's not saying much... I've always had bottom-end cars.) Compared to my previous cars, this is a real gem. It has all kinds of features I would not ...

Pros: Roomy Interior Cons: Noisy tires/engine; Poor fuel efficiency; terrible auto transmission, No ABS The Bottom Line: Not recommended: ABS not standard, Very noisy, bad fuel economy, terrible automatic transmission, poor center airflow design
Only redeeming quality: roomy interior
4-speed automatic transmission, came with 20,090 miles. Power windows/door locks with alarm, a/c Seats Grade: B 1. Cushions are soft, too narrow and not supportive especially the thigh and lumbar area. I'm six feet tall and of average build ...

Pros: Manual transmission performance, brakes, handling, reliability, fuel efficiency, stance on road. Cons: Cut-rate interior, audio, ABS?? The Bottom Line: Love the performance and the handling, great for families or teen drivers, but opt for the ABS.
NOTE: This review was written in July of 2005. I purchased this vehicle in early March of 2004. Since then I have used it mainly for commuting to and from my university (approx. 18 miles one way). When originally deciding what vehicle to purchase, ...

Pros: Gas Mileage, Roominess, Trunk Size Cons: 4-Cylinder engine noisy at high RPM's. The Bottom Line: It's fun to drive and I am very happy with it.
After owning three Nissan Maxima's I decided it was time for a change. My first Maxima had a 190 horse V6 that got about 25 miles per gallon of premium but in the 2002 version, because of the additional weight and larger engine, it dropped to 19. After ...

Pros: Great handling, acceleration, and braking. Roomy and comfortable. Feels solid. Cons: Gated shifter annoys, placement of some interior controls could be better, radio reception only fair. The Bottom Line: I would definitely recommend this car. It simply does everything well.
This is my second Nissan vehicle. My great experience with my 1995 Maxima sold me on Nissan quality and performance. The purchase of a 2005 Altima was definitely the right choice for me. I opted for the SE 5-speed automatic w/ manual shift mode. My ...

Pros: Strong, capable V6; new interior design; steering wheel functionality; styling Cons: ABS not standard, manual shifter is a little rough, poor radio reception The Bottom Line: I recommend this car because it is a lot of car for the price, and with the V6, is a surprising performer
I just bought a 3.5 SE Manual with virtually no extra options for much less than the 2.5SL, and it does come with some nice extra features beyond what the 2.5S offers. I also considered the Honda Accord Coupe, and Toyota Camry Solara. I realize that ...

Pros: SL package, roomy, heated seats, looks. Cons: Performance, service issues, price. The Bottom Line: Look for something more reliable and for less money. There are other cars that fit this criteria for less.
My wife's 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix had just died. She wanted something "cool," I wanted something affordable and reliable. After some research we settled on looking at the 2005 Nissan Altimas. My parents had owned a 1991 Stanza that lasted 12 years and ...

Pros: Styling, Power, Roomy, Reliability. Cons: Pricey, Traction w/factory tires. The Bottom Line: Having 2 Altima's and having virtually no problems mechanically, I'd say there's no reason NOT to recommend the Altima.
This 2005 Altima is actually my second Altima. I traded in my 2004 Super Black Altima 3.5SE for this one. I bought both brand new and have similar complaints with both. I do have to say that the minor redesign for 2005 took care of most of my complaints ...

Pros: Good looks, economy, fit and finish, handling, storage space. Cons: 2.5 Liter engine, ride, some handling issues, AUTO transmission, shifter plate. The Bottom Line: I don't recommend the new 2005 Altima SL because there are other vehicles within its price bracket that offers more satisfaction and better performance.
When I came home from school I noticed a beautiful 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL sedan in the driveway, and right away I wanted to test drive this wonderful looking car. So I asked my dad if I could test drive his rental, so off I went up the interstate and ...

Pros: Nice styling, big trunk Cons: Poor AC vent controls, underpowered (2.5L), some controls tedious to adjust correctly The Bottom Line: A good vehicle with nice styling and comfortable interior.
We rented a 2005 Nissan Altima from Hertz in Austin, Texas for four days June 18-21, 2004. The model was mid level trim with automatic transmission, cloth seats, power drivers seat, AC and the standard stereo system. Everything seemed very nicely ...

Pros: Roominess, comfort, performance, design Cons: Hesitation in acceleration, Cheap interior finish, road noise The Bottom Line: The ultimate test was a road-trip from Florida to Tennessee with three teenagers. Everybody was as comfortable as can be expected in a sedan. The ride was quiet and uneventful.
I have been a fan of Nissan cars and trucks since I purchased the my first Altima in 1999. The 1999 Altima still ran great until we lost it in an accident in April 2007. In searching for a replacement vehicle we tried everything from small car-like ...

Pros: Good choice if you get a low price Cons: Noisy engine, frequent wheel balancing required The Bottom Line: As long as you can purchase the car for a good price, you will be satisfied with the value.
The 2005 was a major body re-design. Most people have found the styling acceptable. From a practical point of view, the insides are roomy for a car in this class. There is room (and shoulder/lapbelts) for five passengers. The trunk is large, and the ...

Pros: Nice styling, decent MPG, Bose system Cons: Manual door locks, pop-top storage, dash material The Bottom Line: Plenty of room and style for a young couple or family. Decent enough gas mileage and great stereo
We've had this car now for 6 months and it has lived up to our expectations. The look and feel of the car are much better then we thought they would be. Even with 4 doors, it feels like a sports car (especially after driving my Envoy). The 175HP make ...
