2006 Yamaha Majesty 400 - A refined machine

by gregbartos , Sep 08 '05
Pros: Very high quality, great value, excellent performance.
Cons: Shhhhh.... these things are under-advertised.
I bought my new 2006 Yamaha Majesty 400 a couple weeks ago. This is my 1st "scooter" class vehicle. I have owned three 1100 Class Suzuki motorcycles, so I'm not a rookie rider and had high expectations for this machine, based on my research and ...

It's still a Majestic ride

by didiki , Aug 13 '05
Pros: Great ride, great gas mileage, well built.
Cons: None really, except for some minor points noted above.
As promised here is a six month update on my 2005 Yamaha Majesty 400cc. In the past 6 months I have put 2240 kms (1344 miles) on Her Majesty. Not that much, but then again our weather this past winter on Vancouver Island has been rain, rain and more ...

2005, 400cc Yamaha Majesty - "Blue Meanie"

by thebluemeanie , Nov 15 '04
Pros: Solid/smooth ride, economical, powerful, dependable starts, large storage area under seat.
Cons: Slow from zero to 20mph.
Freeway travel is solid. At 80mph no speed wobbles were noticed. Fuel injected, 400cc Engine is fairly quite. Plenty of power, slow out of the hole with centrifugal clutch and one speed. Fuel economy in town is right at 50mpg, approx. 180 mile range on ...

2005 Yamaha Majesty 400 cc Scooter?

by reliablehost , Mar 05 '05
Pros: Comfortable, looks cool. Engine is smooth and strong. Bike is lightweight, but not too light.
Cons: windshield could be bigger stock but there are after markets that's it! go buy one
I just got back from Thailand and had rented numerous Yamaha automatic scooters over there, like the Nouvo and actually purchased a Nouvo MX for around $1000. I came back to the states and had a craving for more. The one thing about shopping for a ...

Majesty YP400 reliable and user friendly

by rideaway , Jan 10 '07
Pros: Reliability, storage, comfort, confidence in the machine and fuel economy.
Cons: It is hard to find anything negative to say. Perhaps checking air pressure is cumbersome.
At 60 years of age I decided I wanted a scooter. I am a resident of NSW, Australia. To obtain a L permit you need to attend a training school and pass an theory exam. After achieving this I purchased a 150cc Taiwanese made scooter, a TGB. It was a nice ...

by arcamedies , May 15 '06
Pros: unbelievable fuel economy, runs great for a 400cc, great bang for the buck, FAST
Cons: maybe add side lighting besides turn signal running lights
IT'S A 2006 What an amazing bike, my first Yamaha (except for outboards). I've had 14 bikes over 40 years and my last were several (3) Goldwing and a Harley Ultra Glide that I put 15,000 to 18,000 miles on a year. The Majesty handles superbly, very ...

A GREAT buy!

by joefam , May 26 '07
Pros: Comfort, plenty of pep, excellent gas mileage (60+)
Cons: Tough to clean the lower interior parts of the windshield.
Before the Majesty I had a 102 cubic inch modified Road Star Warrior. Nothing in its class could touch it for 0-60 racing. In fact, even the GXRS could not touch in through 1st gear. I had about $15,000 in the bike. It had no storage and no windshield ...

Cons: Floor boards could be a bit wider up front.
Got the Majesty on 11/29/2004. I did alot of research on the Majesty and others and choose the majesty based on the research and then finalized my research decision with a close up of the bike at a dealer. I think the Majesty quality is ...

Good little machine... but starting issues?

by jimjutte , Apr 18 '06
Pros: A miser with gas, with a nice protected ride
Cons: Poor handling related to obstacles like potholes, starting problems and locks freeze in cooler weather.
I purchased my Yamaha Majesty in October 2005 when most people were putting their's away. I installed several accessories right away and will be adding the rear carrier in spite of initial reservations. I initially looked at the Majesty because my ...

Not for the freeway

by estatomas , Oct 30 '05
Pros: Comfortable ride around the neighborhood; great engine.
Cons: Unstable in traffic at freeway speeds and unsuitable for such use.
I loved this scooter when I first got it. I purchased it new from the dealer and promptly began the break in process, cruising around the neighborhood. The 400 cc engine runs beautifully. The first problem I noticed was that the short windshield ...

St Louis commuting (7100 mile update)

by stlmajesty , Oct 04 '05
Pros: Great mpg, no 2-stroke buzz, looks good, handles great
Cons: Too tall for wife, passenger seating needs backrest for confidence.
I bought the Majesty to save gas since my daily driver is a full sized pickup that gets 15mpg. I had not owned a motorcycle since before getting married (13 years, Virago 920) and didn't even try to convince my wife until gas hit $3.19 I reasoned that ...

2005 Yamaha 400cc Majesty

by wyodog , Oct 17 '05
Pros: fun factor, handling, acceleration, braking, good looks
Cons: none really, other than no sidecar for my Lab
When it began to cost close to $100 to fill my truck and I started noticing scooters around town, I began to think seriously about these things. I needed something that could handle both street and highway travel and wouldn't get blasted off the road. ...

A Fine Ride!

by belbobo2 , Oct 04 '05
Pros: Comfort, convenience, power and appearance.
Cons: Wind turbulence and non-analog gauges.
I just spent my first weekend riding the Yamaha Majesty 400 and am having a blast. My girlfriend and I traded in a pair of 2004 MZ Moskito 125 scooters for our new bikes. We wanted to get out of town a bit further than we could on the smaller rides. ...

2005 Yamaha Majesty 400 cc
by esa1178 ,Jan 25 '05
Pros: Zippy, Light, easy on the eyes. Quiet. A real crowd pleaser.
Cons: None.
What a beauty! I was looking for a bike after 25 years. The only Bike I had ever ridden was a 50 cc moped. I was on the fence between the Yamaha Virago 250 & V Star 650. My main issue was weight and clutch. Then I noticed the Majesty. A wonderful medium. Its an automatic so no clutch. The 400 cc engine makes it a very fast and powerful bike. With an super light frame, there is no danger of dropping tor falling over on a tight turn. Fast away from the gate, I have yet to see what it can really do. I am 50 miles into the break in, so still babying the bike. Very easy to control, and a great bike if you are looking to move onto a bigger bike from a Moped or 125/250!!

better than a motorcycle!
by wsms ,Aug 25 '07
Pros: sporty look, great handling, great power. GREAT BIKE
Cons: reading display when sun shines directly on it
i must say, i read all the reviews on this site and decided i must comment on MY MAJESTY! i bought my in december of "04, and have been in love every since. i get people asking me "why did'nt you buy a motorcycle" i tell them i did! its just styled like a scooter! this bike is perfect! it has more storage than a motorcycle, its more comfortable. oh and the best part its an automatic trans, which to me makes it easier and more fun to ride! i read a review that said it did'nt handle well on the freeway.what?! this bike handles great on the highway. other motorcycles have the same issue if it is very windy! you just power thru it. as far as it being slow in first gear, as long as you are not trying to race off it has enough power to do what it is supposed to do.overall, by one you wont be disappointed!

Lemon Law applies
by scooter42 ,Oct 05 '05
Pros: Great Mileage, and fun to ride.
Cons: Quality concerns. Concerns about service knowledge on this technology.
Bike has been in shop for an apparent clutch problem 3 times since purchasing in early Sept. No one seems to be able to fix. Dealer and Yamaha are perplexed by problem and seem reluctant to act upon the Lemon Law, as I am asking for a replacement bike. Per Dealer, Yamaha suggested using a brillo pad to "scour" the parts (remember, this is a new bike) to minimize any potential slippage.

A big fat disappointment!
by c17pilot ,Jul 06 '07
Pros: Brand new, the Majesty was a lot of fun
Cons: Can't handle constant use
I live south of the LA area. I bought the Majesty, based on a salesperson recommendation, to commute 80 miles to work each day on the LA highway and as a great way to beat gas prices. He confidently told me the scooter could easily handle the commute each day.

The scooter worked great for a year and a half. Then, while on the highway, the RPM dropped instantly to 4000 RPM and would no longer accelerate past that limit. An hour of back-road driving was required to get the scooter home at the 4000 RPM limit.

Now, seven weeks later and $1200 thinner, the dealer has no idea why the scooter limits the RPM to 4000 RPM. Oh, and the extended warranty I purchased, that’s useless also! Apparently, my Yamaha dealer sold me a third party warranty whose rep thinks the scooter is a victim of normal wear.

In conclusion, I hate the Majesty as much as I use to love my Majesty. Yamaha has been useless. Suzuki is my new best friend now.

Yes, Your Majesty!
by saintkarl ,Jun 05 '06
Pros: 65 mpg/cheap insurance/power/speed/style/room/comfort/great maintenance = NO REGRETS!
Cons: Would like it 6 inches longer
I bought my Yamaha last July and continue to appreciate its abilities/technologies more and more. For one, the climate in which I reside is cold…below zero cold so I only get 6 months at best to ride. But I must say that the electronic fuel injection is a great when starting the bike to ensure the battery stays charged. Up here, you find that riders store bikes at great cost to ensure they are maintained during the cold months. All I do is place it on the center stand and viola, my rear tire is suspended and the front tire barely has any weight applied!

Power is great, mileage is better than last season and the compliments continue to keep coming. The roomy space under the seat is to “cry for” and able to hold 3 styrofoam take-out container all staked together.

Just two weeks ago I had this “Harley Boy” in awe…so much so that he left his polished baby to some check out mine. AWESOME!

No Regrets!

Buy buy Big Bikes!
by gerr4377 ,Mar 29 '06
Pros: Very bright lights, looks, storage, gas consumption is very low and very reliable.
Cons: slow take offs, false speed readings 10ks off, some clutch slippage.
What can I say wrong about this (scooter)bike,I have owned 2 street bikes in the past that would turn some heads, the first was a 1985 Yamaha Maxim X 750 that would scream street drags! The other was a 1991 fzr 1000 which I had for 2 short years (woman made me sell it to purchase home). Now that I am a a father and was still wishing to ride, I decided to purchase last summer(2005) my Majesty(new).

I must say that I was not sure that I would like it, but After leaving the dealer with it for the very first time I was quite surprised at its ability for speed (don't tell Yamaha but I went up to 155km/h with it)which i don't recommend for the warranty.

The Majesty handles very well, great on gas, Good clean lines.

Runs with the big dogs. My 2005 Yamaha Majesty.
by honsell ,Nov 10 '05
Pros: Cavernous storage, easy to handle in traffic & plenty of power.
Cons: Taller windshield not necessary. Ride with a full face helmet or lots of face protection.
Bought 10 November, 2005. Update: 7 March, 2007. Rolled over 16,000 miles (25,749 KM). I'm lovin' it!

I ride single.

I got stuck in sand and the engine air filter and V-drive filter quickly clogged. The filters are at near ground level. Stay out of loose sandy soil. Stay on paved roads.

Change filters when recommended. If V-drive filter cloggs the clutch will grab and jerk when the drive assembly overheats.

Keep an eye on the transmission oil level.

Check tire pressure before each ride!!! You may not notice low pressure until you're in a turn.

Fuel economy is still 55-65. I use Mobile 1 synthetic oil and change it at 5000 miles. Probably could do as well with regular dino oil. I changed oil filter at 2,500 miles.

Dependable. Put gas in it, check the fluid levels, tire pressure and ride.

It looks like we in the US are going to have to pay what the rest of the world has been paying for a long time for petro. But with the Majesty, it isn't such a big deal.

Fun and Excitement
by daddo ,Aug 18 '06
Pros: Stylish, sporty, fun to ride.
Cons: A little "clunky" off the line. The slow speeds are just not as smooth.
I have had my Majestic for about a month now. It has performed perfectly. I took the break-in seriously and kept it at or below 4000 rpm. That was hard to do, but I would let it loose every once in a while for a short spurt. I got 67 mpg over the 600 miles of the break-in. I am in the next 400 miles now and enjoy traveling at highway speeds. I am 6'3" tall and weigh 250 pounds. It moves me along a highway speeds with no problem and still under 6000 rpm.
I have been getting 65 mph lately so I am very happy with the gas mileage. I have taken to short tours and it is comfortable and sporty. It is worth every cent I paid for it. I was using about $160 a month in my car and now I am putting on twice as many miles for 1/3 the cost. It has plenty of space for those quick shopping trips or back and forth to work.

Great way to save gas money
by rastaton ,Apr 16 '05
Pros: Excellent economy and comfort. Lots of storage space. Quiet. Bright headlights.
Cons: The dual stand is very difficult, helmet gets wind blast.
I bought the Majesty two days ago as a way to save gas money and help the environment by not burning as much gas. Today I went for a long ride to get used to it. When I refilled the tank and calculated the mileage, I got about 67MPG. This is probably 2/3 highway and 1/3 city. The bike is very comfortable, though your helmet gets blasted with wind on the freeway. The throttle has a strange "minimum" where is jumps from nothing to some level which will perpetuate you at about 25mph. This jumpiness at the low end makes slow turns a bit more difficult. The take-off rate from zero to 10mph is not very good probably because of the continuously variable transmission. But once you get started it's got plenty of power. The dual kickstand is exceptionally difficult to use, though once it's down the bike is held very steady. The headlights are excellent, but the turn signals on the dashboard are barely visible in daylight.

Easy on the GAS!!
by rayfordp ,Apr 18 '05
Pros: Very stylish, seats two well and has plenty of power. Great Gas mileage.
Cons: Windshield is to low!!! No instructions to change wheels in owners manual.
Is it a scooter or motorcycle? Data plate says motorcycle. This unit is good to look at and fun to ride. It runs well at highway speeds and is very smooth. It has PLENTY of POWER and affords great gas mileage. I have a Gold Wing and it keeps up with it just fine. Great for around town use.

Fine Ride
by smhunn ,May 14 '05
Pros: Lots of storage, on Outside Magazine drool list.
Cons: None
I live in East Hampton, NY traffic is unbeaerable from May-September. Regardless this is a sweet ride it will do everything from a hop to the drugstore to a full open throttle 90 mph run. Hit the starter and go, traded from a YZFR6 with no regrets, See ya!
