HHR was dented by "acorns"

by derykhouston
Dec 26 '10

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: I like the body style of the HHR.
Cons: The car can not take a acorn falling from a tree without denting the metal.
The Bottom Line: I would not buy a car that falling acorns will easily dent because it ruins the value.

My HHR 2006 chevrolet was dented by regular sized small acorns falling from the tree in my yard. The dealership would not fix the problem. They said that I should not park under the trees again. One has to look across the surface to see it but there are ...

Great Used Car

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Inexpensive, quiet, roomy, lots of features for a base model.
Cons: Gas mileage could be a bit better; unpleasant engine sound.
The Bottom Line: Excellent choice for the daily commute.

I purchased a 2006 Chevrolet HHR LS automatic (base model) in July 2010 for $7800. It had about 80,000 miles on it at the time. This car is used primarily for commuting, and my daily round-trip is about 72 miles.Fuel mileage averages 28 mpg, ...

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Reliability, interior comfort, heated seats, leather, economy and practicality
Cons: Light colored carpeting, underpowered, lack of storage compartments inside
The Bottom Line: This vehicle is definitely worth it's money. Looks great too.

I just traded my 2006 Chevrolet HHR in for a bigger 2004 GMC Yukon, because i needed more space for my growing family, but I believe that one year spent with this car, qualifies me to write a fairly complete review on it. I had this car for a year, and ...

So far....so good!

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: GAS MILEAGE!! Looks. Quite ride.
Cons: Window control placement, blind spots and visibility. Storage in the front.
The Bottom Line: Final recommendation is buy it! If you can get used to the "little things" that to me personally don't make that much difference, I believe you will really like it!

I traded my 4 X 4 pickup in because I needed to get better gas mileage. I'm on my first tank of gas and I have gotten about 258 miles to the first 1/2 tank!!! Needless to say I am impressed as all get out thus far! I just hope it stays that way. Lots of ...

A blast into the past

by cbanders1
Jan 15 '07

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Smooth ride. Economical with gas. Retro-futuristic styling. More masculine looking than the PT Cruiser.
Cons: Placement of the power window switches. The cup holders. Seating position is too high.
The Bottom Line: I would choose an HHR again. It meets all of my realistic expectations (for a second car)

I have had the HHR LT1 for about a month and, as an avid car enthusiast I found the HHR quite a nice vehicle. I must premise all of my opinions with the fact that this was purchased as a 'business' vehicle and that I have a 2001 Corvette sitting in the ...

A Traveling Torture

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: There isn't anything I can identify.
Cons: Cheap-looking interior, poor design and controls.
The Bottom Line: I would not recommend this vehicle. If it looks cheap, it is probably cheaply made.

We had the misfortune of renting this car through a major rental car company to drive on a recent business trip. The car we requested wasn't available, and the rental car company put us into this boxy misconception. I've never been a fan of the PT ...

Same car?

Sep 16 '06

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: It MUST be cheap. I wouldn't pay more than 15K for one.
Cons: Too many to list.
The Bottom Line: Another sub-par GM product.. watching them sadly, slowly, die.

This car is absolute rubbish. Reviewiers here who like it, have you driven any European or Japanese cars, ever? I have the misfortune to be renting one and impressions are bad. Styling is a matter of taste so I won't comment except to say the view out ...

Not for tall people, controls impossible to find

by btreudt
Sep 07 '06

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Didn't find any other than drove alright.
Cons: Windshield is too short and controls are impossible to find.
The Bottom Line: Would not buy or recommend this for buying.

I have not owned one of these, but my husband and I rented one for a couple of days on a trip we took to CA. It was horrible. The controls were put in places that were impossible to find. It took us 5 minutes to figure out how to open the hatchback to ...

Seriously disappointing!

by elvisnip

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Cute- on the outside. All the comments from passersby are fun. The skylight is fun.
Cons: BIG blind spots, very uncomfortable and weird drive. Mileage not great.
The Bottom Line: Shop around. Great first car, but not for the long haul.

I've owned and driven 12 cars in my life. Obviously I'm no teenager, but I'm not in the big Buick category yet, either. Perhaps it's that I've owned and loved 2 classic Jeep Cherokees (the old square kind), but I find I'm totally underwhelmed by my ...

Stylish Retro-Missed Opportunity

by chapol
Jul 04 '06

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: The HHR is an eye catching vehicle offering a roomy interior and relatively smooth ride.
Cons: The interior design is bland. Gauges, seats, ergonametrics, etc. need a lot of work.
The Bottom Line: Only recommended for teenagers looking to impress or short-drive delivery persons.

The title says it all for this new addition to the Chevy lineup for 2005-2006. Even though this machine obviously copies the Chrysler PT Cruiser, which has been a big success, the HHR doesn't quite make it especially inside the cabin. To be ...

Chevy HHR a Winner!

by jepstr67
May 11 '06

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Styling, Fuel economy, Driver information center, roomy interior, for people and cargo.
Cons: Hard plastic interior panels should have an optional upgrade to cloth or vinyl.
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this vehicle for people who enjoy classic vehicle styling and want lots of interior space and fuel economy.

I am really happy with my HHR. This is the first new have I have ever purchased. I bought this car for the mileage and it meets or exceeds the 30 MPG rating on the sticker! Most reviews I have read, people complain about performance and request a larger ...

How good is the PT Cruiser Wannabe?

by tomcruzcontrol
May 09 '06 - Updated May 11 '06

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: spacious interior, quiet at low revs, cushy ride, some appealing styling cues
Cons: sickly exhaust note at medium to high revs, often viewed as a "me too" car
The Bottom Line: If you like the PT Cruiser but have Chevy brand loyalty, your vehicle has arrived.

INTRODUCTION AND INTERIOR I test drove the 2006 Chevrolet HHR. HHR stands for Heritage High Roof, and is modeled after the 1949 Chevrolet Suburban. To view it a more callous and cynical way, it's GM's painfully obvious attempt to cash in on ...

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: CLASSY LOOKING AND RIDES GREAT!!!!!!!!
Cons: NOT FOR A TALL PERSON! REAR VIEW MIRROR A LITTLE SMALL FOR COMFORT!
The Bottom Line: THE BOTTOM LINE IS THIS "TO EACH HIS OWN"! BUT,A GREAT PRICE FOR WHAT YOU GET! IS IT A "fun" CAR FOR ANYONE THAT LIKES "CAR CLUB" CARS

A BLACK LT2 WITH ALL CHROME ACCESSORIES IS WHAT I GOT AND I LOVE IT. WE TOOK IT TO VEGAS AND IT WAS A JOY ON THE ROAD! GOT MORE LOOKS THAN A MODEL IN A BIKINI!!!! WE GOT THE BIGGER ENGINE (automatic) AND THE 17" CHROME WHEELS. IT HANDLED GREAT ON THE ...

Long Live the Lead Sled

by jupitertom
Apr 03 '06

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Style, functionality, ride/handling, comfortable seating, sound system, gas mileage.
Cons: Cheap interior, power window button placement, limited cubbies to store small items up front.
The Bottom Line: With gas approaching $3.00 per gallon my HHR does almost everything my SUV did at a fraction of the price. Long live the Lead Sled!

The HHR is one of those cars that is sure to evoke an opinion. You either love the style or hate it, but everyone is sure to look. Personally I love it. I think this car looks great from every angle. Too many cars today lack personality, the HHR ...

Consider it for your needs not just styling.

by neverread
Nov 26 '05 - Updated Nov 30 '05

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Decent mileage. Very practical. Good price. Comforts plentiful, even in base.
Cons: Human factors could be better. A few new-model pains. Powertrain warantee less than others.
The Bottom Line: Well worth consideration. Meets the needs and budget of most small families.

The HHR is a bit taller than most compact wagons, gets far better mileage than small SUVs. I've never been a speed daemon or fashion queen. So neither g-forces nor styling are all that important to me. We use our vehicles as transportation for us ...
