Pros: Vastly improved structural rigidity and ride quality, upgraded interior, stronger engine Cons: Interior a bit overdone, exterior way overdone, awkward door grips The Bottom Line: The 2006 revisions produce a much better vehicle. If only some of the styling changes weren't overdone.
I've written two reviews of the Explorer in the past, first of the 2002 and more recently of the 2004. Both times I came away from my test drive disappointed. On paper the Explorer seemed very competitive. On the road, not so much. My list of cons in the ...

Pros: Excellent handling, good engine power, solid feel, plenty of "luxury" appointments. Cons: Minor reliability issues. The Bottom Line: Good, solid SUV with excellent handling, but needed a few repairs. I recommend this SUV for it's performance, but it may need to have a little work done at times.
In December of 2005, my wife, our two daughters, and I drove from Dallas, Texas to the small town of Weslaco in the Rio Grande Valley in our 1998 Plymouth Grand Caravan minivan. We went to visit my wife's parents who spend the winter down there to avoid ...

Pros: Smooth SUV . Good ride . Roomy for passengers and luggage Cons: all or nothing heat/cooling . Poor mileage. Door handles The Bottom Line: Good solid SUV . Plenty of room with a smooth drive. Great for a family of three to five , dinks with dogs etc..
The Top Line I had the opportunity to drive a rented 2006 Ford Explorer XLT 4 liter V6 for five days through some pretty hot and rugged conditions in Arizona. No tornadoes thank goodness – but some awesome thunderstorms between the 107 ...

Pros: Exterior appearance, power Cons: Interior door handles The Bottom Line: If you can overcome the interior, go for it.
During a recent business trip, I covered about 1500 miles in two days, my rental? A 2006 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition. Working in the automotive industry, I am a car guy first and formost. I love cars, their shape, their size, their motors and ...

Pros: Truck like setup in the interior. 3rd row is actually usable. Cons: Traction control. Seats are hard as a rock. Interior door handles out of reach. The Bottom Line: Don't know that I can recommend the Explorer. Con's outweigh the pros. Maybe mine is just the 'lemon' but I'm not so sure.
I was going to buy a Ford truck, but decided on the Explorer instead. Found a Certified Pre-owned 2006 with 16,000 miles on it at the local dealer. In the past 10 months, I've put about 13,000 miles on it, and it's been in for warranty work 4 times ...

Pros: Has clearance underneath and power to tow boat or trailers. Cons: Wheel design that collects mud, causes vibration and unbalance. Gas tank on passenger side. The Bottom Line: This vehicle is not appropriate for non-paved roads, farm use, or construction sites. There are better choices for fuel economy and such if you drive only paved roads.
I bought a 2006 Ford Explorer V8 after 10 years of driving a 1996 Explorer, so I expected similar performance. I use the Explorer for minor hauling, equipment, etc. on my farm, to drive to work and shop. I drive approximately 5 miles each way on ...

Pros: Safe, powerful, and reliable Cons: 3'rd row seat is cramped. The Bottom Line: This has been a pleasant change from Ford's past vehicles. It is safe, decent MPG, and dependable.
I purchased this vehicle, a 2006 Ford Explorer XLT and have loved it ever since. It came with the leather seats and power driver side seat, running boards, and 17" wheels. It has the 4.0 Liter V6 and 5 speed automatic which is very smooth shifting. The ...

Pros: stylish, roomy, easy to manoeuvre Cons: gas guzzler, door handles, side view mirrors.
reasonable priced, good after sales service, and very stylish. Basically met all the points on my shopping list, until yesterday when i met with my first major accident here in Dubai.
I blame the braking system (not very responsive). The airbag went out and after the impact fused passing a nauseating odour in the cabin and also burnt my hand in the process.
I spoke to other Explorer users and they had similar complains of the braking system.
The rear view mirrors are a total joke. They are smaller than a coupe's and not very frindly when manoeuvring this mamoth machine.
