Ford's "Little" Secret?

by tracey28
Apr 16 '06 - Updated Feb 13 '07

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Mileage, room, comfort, trip computer, auto lamps, auxiliary package, comfort package and more!
Cons: Needs a wide parking space, DVD not for adults in middle row and radio.
The Bottom Line: It is a sturdy, elegant, affordable crossover that keeps your kids safe and entertained. It surpasses the competition and takes the place of minivans. The car of the future!

In 2004, I reviewed the 2005 Ford Freestyle on this site. At the time, I thought the vehicle was above average, but I was nervous about buying a brand new vehicle. My husband had been burned buying a first-year (1999) Mercury Cougar, and we wanted to ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Handling, economy, traction, power, comfort, quietness, versatility, quality.
Cons: Noisy motor at high rpms, little room behind 3rd row, minimal towing capability.
The Bottom Line: For versatile functionality, safety, comfort, reliability, and economy, this vehicle is ideal.

The Ford Freestyle is really a Volvo with Ford clothes. The new 3.5 liter engine was not ready for production, so Ford modified the trusty, old 3.0 liter V6 that was in dire need of attention anyway. They managed to squeeze out just over 200 horsepower ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: build quality, finish, CVT, actual usable 3rd row,
Cons: conversation mirror location, headliner support.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this car to anyone who needs the capacity of a mini-van without the mini-van.

Well, we've had our '06 SEL for a couple of months now. managed to get about 4000 miles. This car drives very nice, handles excellent for this type of car. I can't wait until winter to see how the well AWD works. I have a couple of quirks I don't ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Styling, room, handling, performance, gas mileage, well-equipped even in basic form
Cons: Choose your dealer carefully, rear brake noise seems to be a problem
The Bottom Line: It's a good vehicle, just make sure you buy from a dealer who will stand behind it after the sale!

Last summer, my mother (known to my four kids as Nana) traded in her beloved but well-worn 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Limited Edition and bought her first Ford product, a 2006 Ford Freestyle SEL. Needless to say, I was shocked, but Mom insisted that she ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Safety, Function, Ride, Handling, Upscale Features, Resale if Buying, Options, Winter Driving
Cons: Ford is halting Freestyle/Taurus X in 2009, not everyone thinks Flex looks good
The Bottom Line: Highly recommended for versatility, safety, ride, handling, comfort, options, and quality

I can't speak how this car rates specific to all other potential competitors, but I can share my last month's impressions as I bought this vehicle used. My previous cars were a 1987  Nissan 200SX hatchback, a 1992 Acura Integra GSR hatchback, a 1996 ...

Mar 06 '07

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: It has a nice large gas tank.
Cons: It has bland styling.
The Bottom Line: This has been a reliable vehicle for me, which is more than I can say about prior experiences with Fords.

After owning the 2006 Ford Freestyle for about six months I was surprised to discover that it is considered a crossover vehicle. I had assumed that it was a mini-van, because it looks like a mini-van to me. That being said, it has been a decent, ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great price, safe family vehicle, good gas mileage.
Cons: No bells and whistles, must use force to close doors.
The Bottom Line: We are very satisfied with our Ford Freestyle purchase. It is a great family vehicle for safety and the punishment of young children.

We purchased our 2006 Ford Freestyle used in January 2007. I had done some research and new it was the car I wanted. My biggest desire was to not get a minivan, but we have three children and needed the 3 row seats. I thought the Freestyle would have ...
