DON'T BUY A HONDA ODYSSEY

by
Aug 7, 2012 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Lots of space
Comfortable front bucket seats
Cons: Poor gas mileage
Drives like a tank
Very expense--too many things wrong with it
The Bottom Line: Don't buy a Honda Odyssey because it's not reliable and is VERY expensive to drive (15 mpg city, 20 highway) and maintain. Constant problems, all expensive.

I bought a 2006 Odyssey new. I'm retired and drive less than 7,000 miles a year (except for two 1,500 mi trips). In less than 2 years, the battery died. Only two years later, the 2nd battery died. Today, two years after the second ... read more

I thought Hondas were reliable!!!

by
Aug 8, 2008 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Gas saving(?) engine. Gets around 20mpg. Roomy. Has power when you need it.
Cons: Front end shimmy, won't hold an alignment. Eats brakes and batteries. Expensive tires.
The Bottom Line: It is a tough choice, but I wouldn't recommend. this van has proven unreliable and expensive to maintain.

e bought our 2006 Honda Odyssey new and still have it in Aug 08. The troubles began from shortly after we brought it home. We noticed a shimmy at the steering wheel at higher speeds. When we brought it back to the dealer (under warranty) we were ... read more

If You've Gotta Have a MiniVan....

by
Dec 5, 2007 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Value for cost. Regular fuel. Easy to use seating. Decent gas mileage.
Cons: Looks (but then it is a Honda). Heating/AC controls are less than intuitive.
The Bottom Line: If you're going to shell out the big bucks for a minivan, don't miss out on testing this one.

There's just no substitute for the flexibility and comfort of having a minivan when you have children. After over a year of mashing my head into the top of our sedan each time I would put my son into his carseat, I finally demanded a different vehicle. ... read more

by
Nov 13, 2007 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Comfy, fun to drive, zippy, handles responsively
Cons: ROAD NOISE no tilt wheel, no auto headlights
The Bottom Line: we love the convenience for extra room when traveling and the responsive handling

This was our first minivan purchase. We purchased it new and have been driving it now for over a year. We bought a new 2006 Chrysler 300 at the same time. The Chrysler stays in the garage undriven most of the time as our first vehicle of choice to drive ... read more

I love this minivan!

by
Sep 11, 2007 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Comfortable, intuitive, sleek design.
Cons: On the low side of fuel efficiency but tolerable.
The Bottom Line: Highly recommended. Fantastic fit and finish, well thought out cabin design and good use of space, nooks and crannies.

I bought my 2006 Honda Odyssey in June 2006. We opted for the EX trim line which is the second most basic model. The only add-on that I chose was the rear back up sensors because I had always driven small cars and was concerned about maneuvering such a ... read more

Rides like a Honda

by
May 28, 2007 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Nice cabin creature features.
Cons: The ride and road noise is terrible.
The Bottom Line: This is my sisters car. Good thing because I would never own one due to ride and noise levels.

Just took a 1000 mile trip in a Honda Odyssey EXL. The inside of the cabin was very nice with many great features, but the road noise, engine noise, tire noise and ride was terrible. The cabin of this vehicle has 16 cup holders. Wow! That's ... read more

Even though it's a minivan, I love it! *updated Nov 2008!

by
Apr 24, 2007 - Updated Nov 11, 2008 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Power, styling, versatility
Cons: Very few minor annoyances
The Bottom Line: If you have more than two kids, bite the bullet and get a mini-van. Just be sure it's the Odyssey!

I'll put an update at the top, as we've now had the Odyssey for two yers! We have had ZERO problems. Simply - none. We moved earlier in the year, and folding down the back seats and taking out the front ones, although heavy, not impossible to move, ... read more

From SUV to MiniVan - Glad We Did It!

by
Mar 17, 2007 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Many amenities of the high end SUVs. Decent gas mileage, roomy!!
Cons: Headsets don't seem to work very well. Road noise quality could be tweaked.
The Bottom Line: I see the moms in SUVs sacrificing ease because they stereotype minivans as UNCOOL. Time & mental health are worth any sacrafice. With kids, simplicity is a PREMIUM.

I went from an Acura MDX to a Honda Odyssey and I have no regrets. I thought for sure I would feel very "uncool" driving a minvan. BUT - as well loaded as the 2006 Odyssey is - I can't say I miss much of anything about the MDX. I've had my Odyssey ... read more

A Van Like A Smooth Train, Except in Snow

by
Mar 9, 2007 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Smooth ride, versatility inside
Cons: Odd air system, snow buildup in wheel wells
The Bottom Line: A smooth ride, comfort, and flexibility inside more than make up for odd panel instruments and snow buildup in the wheel wells.

A couple of months ago, my wife and I finally relented and bought our first family minivan. The decision was provoked by my wife's pregnancy, and the realization that our Subaru Forrester's back seat could not fit three child seats. We were a little ... read more

The battle between Sienna and Odyssey! Who will win?

by
Mar 7, 2007 - Updated May 18, 2007 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Spacious seating for tall people, Good handling, Sporty Styling, Decent Reliability, Great Cargo Volume.
Cons: Honda LIED! I get between 15 and 20 MPG on the highway!!!
The Bottom Line: Honda LIED about the gas mileage. Does NOT get near 27MPG. Lucky if you get between 15 and 20 MPG. I received notice of a class action lawsuit regarding this!

UPDATE: After a year of driving the Odyssey, I can say that I wish I had NOT bought the Odyssey. Honda has flat out LIED about the gas mileage. It is not even close to the 27MPG that they stated. We are lucky if we get 15 to 20MPG even on the highway. Do ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: good reliability, roomy, handles well on acceleration, braking, and driving
Cons: fuel economy not as good as could be
The Bottom Line: Nice vehicle that handles well and is very roomy. Good reliablility makes this a safe bet.

Let me start out by saying this is going to be a review by an Odyssey owner, if you want a lot of specs, I included some at the bottom of the review, but for a breakdown by model you should check with the dealer as not all items are on all models. I ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Honda quality for same money as most other vans
Cons: Already had two problems that warranty covered.
The Bottom Line: LOVE IT! Can't beat the gas mileage for a min-van. Honda quality and smart design.

We test drove every make of mini-van available and settled on the Honda. We liked the quality, the price and the gas mileage. PRO: We LOVE the storage...I have had the van for over 6 weeks and I am still finding storage compartments! CON: The lazy ... read more

Love the van, hat the gas mileage

by
Aug 20, 2006 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Comfortable. Tight Ride. Plenty of power. Lots of family-needed gadgets.
Cons: Gas mileage is horrific. 14-16 City; 21-23 HWY.
The Bottom Line: Great vehicle, but know going in that the gas mileage is way below what the sticker shows.

Honda did a great job of catering to a lot of needs with this van. Comfortable and roomy, drives nice and solid, plenty of storage and well thought out gadgets throughout. For example, the eyeglass holder doubles as a fish-eye rear view mirror to see ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Lots of luxuries; Excellent safety ratings and features; Very roomy
Cons: Steering wheel not easy to adjust; Only partial stow away seating
The Bottom Line: This is an excellent minivan- the best minivan I have sampled so far.

Cons: Middle Seat adjustment, road noise, entry to rear seats, No coin slots or holders.
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a long term investment, this is it.

May 19, 2006 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Excellent performance Good fuel economy Great family vehicle Our local dealer's "no haggle" policy
Cons: The "little annoyances" we experienced when we took possession of our vehicle
The Bottom Line: I would buy this van again.
