Since 1981 I have owned Toyotas (truck and sedan), Nissans (mini vans), and Hondas (sedans). This is my first SUV which I leased on July 1, 2006. So, after 18 months I think that I have enough experience with it to comment, and because I am convinced ...

Pros: Honda quality and reliability, 8 person capacity Cons: Mediocre gas mileage The Bottom Line: Excellent vehicle in its class. Great balance of performance, features and quality.
Where do I begin? Is the Pilot a stupendous vehicle, no. Is it a bottom feeder, no. it is exactly where Honda planned for it to be, middle of the road, yet, admittedly, it is high up in the middle! I'm an admitted car nut and we picked up our brand ...

I traded in my 2001 Nissan Maxima and got a Pilot about a month ago. We were looking for a mid-sized SUV that was easy to drive and didn’t feel like a truck. We also tested out the Toyota Highlander, BMW X3, and Honda CRV but decided the Pilot was ...

Pros: XM Radio, entertainment system, seating options make it great for family travel. Cons: Gas mileage not what we hoped it would be. The Bottom Line: I would absolutely recommend this SUV to anyone who has an active family and doesn't want a mini-van.
Okay, I'll admit to not being a "car person," I don't know or care about all the technical/mechanical specifications of the car I drive. What matters to me is whether or not the vehicle works for my lifestyle. The Pilot is definitely a lifestyle ...

I just recently traded in my 2000 Ford Expedition for the 2006 Honda Pilot. Going from a full size truck to an SUV I felt was neccessary in regards to gas mileage which so far is much better with the Pilot and I am happy about that. The car rides ...

I recently traded a 2002 Acura MDX for a 2006 Honda Pilot. I purchased my MDX new and drove it over 80,000 miles. It was not as trouble free as it's reputation might indicate. The most serious problem was a tranny replacement which Acura took care of ...

Pros: Great room, handles pretty well. Cons: Gas mileage is deplorable.
Only had it a few days, but so far, agree with all the comments posted.
Is a nice vehicle for the price, handles very well, but gas mileage is horrible for a V6 of any size! Column shifter is annoying & awkward. Radio system sounds okay with the subwoofer, but disappointing that for the money, comes "XM-ready". Even if you buy the module, you still have an XM antenna to deal with. Why? Honda should have put the money into an XM or Sirius radio that the owner activates if they choose. Little things like that cheapen the vehicle. Lots of room, and while it may be a little bland, sure beats a minivan!

Pros: Tons of room! Seats 8 comfortably, the back up camera is a dream come true! Cons: At higher speeds sometimes I notice road noise.
My previous vehicle was a Jeep Wrangler. My wife and I had our first child and decided to trade in the Jeep for a family car. I'm not down with the Mini Van look so we targeted the SUV. I test drove several SUV(s) including the Highlander, BMW X3 & X5. The Pilot was the best price for it's options. The back-up camera that comes standard with the navi-system is a dream since I was used to the small Jeep. I'd recommend this vehicle for anyone with a family.

A WONDERFUL VEHICLE- THIS IS MY SECOND PILOT. IT IS VERY GOOD ON GAS AND THE SPACE IN SIDE THE VEHICLE IS VERY ROOMY COMPARED TO ALOT OF THE SUV'S WE HAD TEST DROVEN. WOULD NOT DRIVE ANYTHING BUT A HONDA. MY PARENTS ARE THE PROUD OWNER'S OF MY 2005 PILOT AND THEY CAN NOT BE HAPPIER EITHER. IT HAS BEEN A GREAT EXPERIENCE TO BE THE PROUD OWNER.

Pros: Decent MPG for SUV, build quality, refined engine, smooth ride, comfortable interior, seating for 8. Cons: Subpar sound quality in sound system
I bought a amazon green metallic EX 2WD. First of I want to say...there has been discussion about a highway vibration problem in Pilots at highway speeds (70mph). Apparently this is a common thing that people have noticed in the Pilot. Prior to 2006, Pilots ONLY came in 4WD. Based on my research, this vibration problem might only be a problem in the 4WD. You might want to consider or look into this further before making a final decision. I have not driven a 4WD, however I can say that I have not noticed a bit of vibration at any speed in my 2WD. The vehicle runs flawlessly. This is a very well built vehicle, very comfortable, smooth, quiet, well laid out interior. Also, the 2WD models have VCM (not available in 4WD), which ups the fuel mileage by about 2 mpg's highway. The only complaint I have with this vehicle is the sound system really is quite lame for a $30K vehicle.

The Best 2006 Mid-Size SUV

Author's Product Rating:

Pros: The Pilot is roomy, smooth and quick. Cons: Too much interior plastic. The seatbelt clip puts nicks in the plastic.
After driving all the other mid-size SUVs in the Pilot's class (Pacifica, Pathfinder, etc.) this was obviously the best buy. With a family of four and possible additions, the three rows are great. I bike quite a bit and two bikes (maybe 3) easily fit inside the rear when folding down both rows of seats.
Yes, the truck is a little bland to the eye compared to the others. However, add the chrome side steps and you'll be amazed at the difference. All in all an excellent truck for the price.

Pros: Gas Mileage, Layout, Space (headroom especially), style, PRICE. Cons: No sunroof, radio controls a bit awkward
My wife and I had been searching for a vehicle to replace our dying Jeep Grand Cherokee (Limited). We drove the new Cherokee, Commander, 4 Runner, Explorer and Pilot. Hands down, the Pilot was the nicest vehicle of the pack. There is so much thought put into this vehicle, that we are finding new things every day. The center console alone had a lot of thought and design put into it.
We use it to tow our 23 foot boat, and experience no problems when doing so.
This vehicle has more space than appears. We can comfortably fit strollers and wagons that wouldn't fit in our Cherokee.
Excellent Vehicle - Highly recommend - VERY well priced @ 25k

Still Love It After 18 Months

Pros: XM Radio, Comfortable Seats, Cargo Area, Honda Reliability Cons: A little slipping and sliding on wet roads
This is a non-technical review! I have had my 2006 Pilot for a year and a half now, and I still love it! It is my third Honda. I had an Accord years ago, and had an Odyssey minivan before I got my Pilot. My three kids are teenagers now, two of whom have their own cars, so I no longer wanted a minivan. However, I still wanted to be able to carry five or more people when needed.
The Pilot has a much more comfortable ride that the Odyssey. I also like the fact that it sits up higher. It is much easier to load groceries, etc. into the back. The seats are also much more comfortable than the Odyssey's, especially on long rides.
Gas mileage is not great, but I wasn't expecting it to be with an SUV. One thing I have not been pleased with is the fact that the Pilot slips and slides on wet roads.
I love the XM radio and the navigation system. They both work great.
All in all, I have been very pleased with my Pilot.

Perfect vehicle for growing family

Pros: Space and extras. Cons: Would be nice if the back windows opened somehow.
We have a young growing family and wanted to make sure that we were going to get something that could handle the multiple car seats, strollers, dog etc. After test driving multiple SUV's we settled on the pilot. I have no regret at all after buying the Pilot.
We the EXL with RES(DVD). I could not be happier with ride and feel of the Pilot. Honda has done a magnificent job designing every aspect of the Pilot. It seats 8 easily, comes with more power outlets than you can ever use and for the size is pretty good on gas.
One other very pleasant surprise, insurance. Our insurance only went up $11 for the year and thats from going from an 01 Grand Am to the 4x4 Pilot.
I would, and have already recommend this vehicle to anyone.

Pros: Safety, Fuel Economy, Ride, US Assembled Cons: No auto locking doors
I purchased this car for my family and wife.
Now I want one for myself.
It drives well, has all safety features, and gets 23
MPG with mixed driving and ECO feature of the 2WD.
We have the DVD system for the kids and seems to function well, except it is a bit hard to run solo.
I compared to Volvo, Explorer, Audi, Acura, Jeep, etc.
I think this car beats them all in features and price.
It is also assembled in Alabama and has about 75% US parts. This was important to me.

we've owned it for 5 months now. rides well. well made. no problems with two car seats. navigation search function is disappointing but actually going to a pre-specified address is fine.
definitely get the all weather mats if you have kids.
running board is not very secure in the rear even after Honda dealer "fixed it." I would probably have gotten the step instead of the running board looking back. moonroof visor blocks too much of the moonroof view.

Pros: Very roomy car; a minivan within a SUV- 8 people fit comfortably Cons: Kind of cumbersome to get our of the third row seats.
Honda Pilot combines a mini van with SUV qualities. After driving around in our Dodge caravan for the past five years, we decided it was time to get something more reliable for our growing family. Driving the Pilot is a dream: you are in control at all times. The 2006 model alternates from 2WD to 4WD depending upon how much weight it is pulling thus saving on gas. In addition it can alternate from 3 cyc to 6 cyc depending upon the energy demand that the car experiences as you drive- gas saver
