by mrkstvns, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50
May 11 '06

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Nimble agility and best-in-class engineering
Cons: Some odd controls and spartan feel
The Bottom Line: Subaru Forester delivers on the promises many other SUV manufacturers make. Read on to see why...

Is a small SUV in your driveway's future? It is for a lot of families, and today's auto showrooms seem to have more small SUVs than any other class of vehicle. There's a lot of choices out there, and a lot of cars that I wouldn't mind driving on a daily ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Both nice and practical, looks good, lots of power, reliable.
Cons: Can't think of any real issue yet. The, mmm, distinctive engine noise, maybe?
The Bottom Line: It's a very practical car, yet it is a lot of fun. Features and comfort are in near-luxury range, the price isn't. Do yourself a favour, test-drive it.

Subaru Forester XT, manual transmission, equipment group 1H, bought new in Sept. 2005. 06 XT models come loaded - turbo, leather, heated seats, etc., you name it. This car replaced a German wonder, '01 VW Passat GLX, that had a habit of stealing my ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Everything! Especialy the value package and drivability in the snow and ice.
Cons: Stock tires. Can't switch to 2wd in the summer for better mileage. More trunk depth.
The Bottom Line: Great buy and winter driving. Dependability. Excellent customer service. Get the 7/100000 warranty from Subaru.

What can I say but WOW! After wrecking our 2002 Passat GL 2wd I thought we could find no better auto. I was wrong. The Subaru along with there Customer service has out-performed my expectations. We get 24 /- around town and 29-30 on the interstate in ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Reliability and Safety.
Cons: A little small for 4 adults.
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a small SUV with decent gas mileage and AWD this is the car for you.

I leased the 2006 Subaru Forester in July of 2006. I traded in my 1999 Subaru Outback because I wanted a newer smaller version of an SUV with better gas mileage. This car is a 4 cylinder automatic with all of the basic options and nothing more. I ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Seats, acceleration, sunroof, storage, view, stereo, lots of outlets, brakes, turns well
Cons: average mileage in town, weird Subaru engine noises, slow setting on wipers is too fast
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a safe, reliable vehicle then I would go for it. This car would be perfect for a family. Don't let its square looks deceive you!

I just got this car a few months ago because I needed something to replace my old car. My mom wanted me to get a Subaru because of their good reputation. I drove it and liked it a lot but thought that I should shop around. Nothing I drove compared to ...

Pros: well engineered. economical. plenty of power. all wheel drive.
Cons: Needs telescoping steering wheel.
The Bottom Line: Highly recommend. Best value for money out there. High safety, driveability, economical. All wheel drive all the time, don't have to think about it.

I rented a car for a 2 day round trip from Cedar Rapids to MSP on business. They offered an 06 Forester so I took it. I had just bought a new 07 maybe 3 days before but had only 100 miles on it. This would give me a feel for it on a long trip. Car ...

Get the Forester Turbo 2.5 XT
by markd97
Oct 31 '06
Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: -Turbo speed with 26 mpg! -Does it all well: hwy, city, off-road, sports car
Cons: -Would like to get good mileage without using 93 octane
With almost 40K miles in 15 months, the Forester 2.5 XT Turbo has more than proven itself in every area of car ownership. Consider:
1. 26.17 mpg hwy on a 1200 mile trip at 70 mph+
2. Screaming fast acceleration and top-end when needed for passing on hills, getting away from trucks, or simply for thrills!
3. Towed 3 motorcycles and 3 fat people with gear and it still got 20 mpg and accelerated more than adequately.
4. Easily conquered hills that a big 4wd truck struggled with.
5. Drove all over hilly snow country with ease and assurance from the sure-footed 4wd.
6. No maintenance issues or defects. Flawless.
7. Low insurance rates.
8. Biggest sunroof this side of the Houston Astrodome.
9. Excellent Subaru dealer support with reasonable maintenance costs.
10. Safety features beyond most cars including boron support beams surrounded by 5+ layers of steel. A fast, fun and safe - tank!
I could go on and on...The best car/SUV I have every owned.

2006 Subaru Forester XLT
by ocsbird13
Feb 03 '06
Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: Excellent options, amazing sunroof, easy to park, safe, safe, safe
Cons: Hill assist is a major pain.
My husband and I purchased our fully loaded 2006 Subaru Forester XLT three months ago and I love it! We opted for manual transmission and have found the gears shift more smoothly than those in my 2001 VW Jetta. The heated seats act quickly and are far more comfortable than the elements in my husband's Nissan Maxima. The choice of the XLT was mostly that of my husband's; he wanted the big engine but I didn't care as long as I could have the panoramic view of Subaru's monster sunroof; it must be seen to be believed. If the fun elements of the Forester don't make you a believer, the safety features certainly should. The Forester has one of the top rated head-rest designs for safety and one of the safest autos on the road. Plus, you can park it in the city quite easily; unlike larger vehicles.

Love my Suburu Forester
by mayayi

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: gas milage, value, comfort, sunroof
Cons: cup holders and noise
I just wanted to add my two cents worth to the Forester reviews. I've owned my 2006 for almost one year and wanted to add dependability plus to the assets of this great car. I bought a Suburu because I've driven them for over 20 years now and have found them very dependable, a good value for the money and I have an awesome local dealer that makes the process painless. I LOVE the giant sunroof...most folks who join me for a ride are just blown away by its sheer size. The gas milage is great and I think it is a good looking car. I'm very proud of it! I also do not love the way the cupholders are in the awkward position in the center - they need to be moved forward a bit to be more practical. I also think it tends to be a bit noisy, especially with the windows open, but most Suburu's seem to have this issue. I have the L.L. Bean version with the leather seats and 6CD changer and feel very comfortable knowing I'll be driving this car for years.
