Pros: Scan-designed interior, S60-looking rear, peppy turbo engine. Cons: Auto A/C software, small side mirrors, auto rearview mirror, foot pedal placement, front wheel drive. The Bottom Line: I rank the 2006 S40 below average because its competitors, BMW 3, Audi A4 and Infiniti G are in my experience more reliable and more fun to drive.
I bought my 2006 S40 T5 Manual in March. It has every option available except AWD. For 3 weeks, I considered it stunning. Friends complimented the spoiler package, the pebble texture of the dash and the comfortable matte black leather seats. All the ...

Pros: Safety, good looks, quality materials, comfortable interior, reasonable price Cons: Computer bugs, S-L-O-W windshield wipers, bumpy sport suspension, regular maintenance leaves you scratching your head The Bottom Line: Beware of computer bugs. Buy only if you have a great service department nearby and a warranty that covers everything. Good safety features otherwise.
I own a 2006 Volvo S40 2.4i with the sport suspension, premium sound, leather seats, and aluminum interior trim. My relationship with this car is a love/dislike one. When everything is working properly, I love it. A little underpowered without the ...

Pros: Nimble, good looking...almost stealth looking Cons: blind spots, headrests The Bottom Line: I'd recommend Volvo based on its uncompromising integrity for the human, environment & car ingenuity as it faces vast competition & marketing strategy that undermine these vital areas.
Purchased the 2006 S40 and requested manual. I decided on this vehicle for personal reasons since I haven't purchased a car in a long time, being single & Swedish ancestry thought this would be the ideal car. Understated, real & firm with environmental ...

Pros: great looking car, great reliability and design, very safe Cons: horrible tires, terrible sat nav, blind spots are a bugger too The Bottom Line: Buy the car if you are looking for something nice, affordable, safe and with good reliability and safety. Compare to Audi A4 or BMW 330i
I have the AWD S40 with the turbo, and it is a great car. I agree with some of the comments from the other user about how Volvo is pretty much the only people to work on the car. There is so much stuff in the car that no one has ever seen, which makes it ...

Pros: handling, style, tranquility, comfort Cons: rear vision, especially when backing-up, mediocre gas mileage, base stereo and fragile wiring harness The Bottom Line: I feel like I'm flying first class for the price of coach. If it stays out of the repair shop, I will strongly recommend.
Last labor day weekend I blew out the head gasket of my old Mazda, and thought that it was a perfect time to catch a sale. I was surprised that most of the local dealers were not offering much off the models I was interested in. But I spotted an ad for ...

Pros: Sleek design, nimble, love the interior Cons: Trunk opening size, some electronic issues, blind spots The Bottom Line: Just take it for a test drive and chance are you'll love it.
I purchased my S40 in February of 2006 and I don't have any major complaints. I did experience a few technical speed bumps, although the experience was made less negative because my local dealership made a loaner available to me at no extra costs, plus ...

Pros: Comfortable, supportive seats; fold-down center console in back seat Cons: Small glovebox and trunk, door lock issues The Bottom Line: A good value for Volvo's legendary safety, but beware manufacturers defects.
I had to buy a car to replace my Saab 900S convertible. I have had 2 children since purchasing that car, and decided that I wanted a sedan. Then the Saab needed a new clutch, and the next thing I knew, I was in the market for a new car. I looked at ...

2006 Volvo S40

Pros: No maintenance issues, no defects found as yet, drives like a sports car should. Cons: I would love to add some cons to this report. Unfortunately I can not.
The 2006 Volvo S40 (basic) is every thing one could ask for in a car. The seats (new stuff) is great for our dog to jump back and forth on while he helps us drive. Comfort of seats areas good as the seats in our c-70. We have 56,000 on a 2006. Yeah, we bought it to drive. Gas mileage is avg 26-28 mpg on the highway, which is mostly what we drive, we stay out of the city.

DO NOT EVER BUY A VOLVO!!!

Pros: The car looks nice I enjoy driving it when it works, which is rare. Cons: Terrible electronics, unreliable, worst customer service imaginable.
I purchased a new Volvo S40 in January 2006 and if you are looking for a car that is completely unreliable and customer service that is even worse then this is the car and car company for you. In my 11 months of ownership the car has been rendered undriveable due to electronics failures 4 times, has been on the back of a tow truck due to these problem 3 times and has spent over 8 weeks in the shop! While this sounds outrageous, Volvo's customer care, if you can call it that, has been completely unhelpful, unresponsive and down-right rude. I am still driving this car and have now hired a lawyer and am going to have to file a civil law suit to get Volvo to comply with the state's lemon law policies. They will not even do what is required under law without being forced. DO NOT BUY THIS CAR! I WOULD NOT WISH A VOLVO ON MY WORST ENEMY!

Volvo Customer Satisfaction

Pros: Car is good.....overall for the price. Cons: Customer Satisfaction is non-existent, unfortunately.
I have a 06' Volvo S40i, base engine but everything added interior for comfort.
The vehicle itself is good. However, Volvo, has made it a point to not allow ANY other shop be capable of working on their car, this includes electronics. This is free information but Volvo is far from forth coming about it, even if I choose to work on it myself. Long story short, I will never buy another Volvo, because of their poor local and corporate customer satisfaction.
But I will have the car for as long as it lasts, I just don't have money to get another one, my mistake on this company and their loss.
