I didn't buy a 2008 Toyota Yaris sedan, I settled for one

by Chad9976 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Good gas mileage; Toyota reliability; surprisingly roomy; stylish
Cons: No frills; no telescoping wheel; average acoustics; misplaced instrument panel; over priced
The Bottom Line: If you don’t need a car with a lot pep and want good gas mileage the Yaris might be for you, just get the highest trim level possible.

When I purchased my 2006 Honda Civic I waited months to write a review of it, but this time around I’m writing a review of my new car before I’ve even had to re-fill the gas tank. I’m not too crazy about it and I’m actually having ...

Basic Transportation - 2008 Yaris Sedan

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: gas mileage, cute and kinda sexy styling, peppier than Aveo
Cons: Space - or lack thereof.
The Bottom Line: If you must be frugal, mind as well look good doing it.

Those who have read my automotive reviews, they are normally the performance-oriented kind. Even when I was going for something more street-worthy, it had to be something that performed just as well on the autocross circuit as well as livable on a daily ...

Great money saving car

Sep 25 '07

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: cheap to buy, insure, fuel. easy to park, maneuver.
Cons: small may equal more injuries in collisions with almost any other car
The Bottom Line: great car for the money

The Toyota Yaris is the most affordable Toyota around, but it really doesn't feel entry level. Overall, the car's engine is surprisingly sufficient. On paper, numbers such as 106 hp at a high 6000 rpm and 103 lbs-ft torque at 4200 rpm would lead you to ...

Pros: wonderful car, low maintence cost, and great
Cons: Made for teens who probably won't appreciate it wanting "pimped cars"
The Bottom Line: very good car because it saves me money, I have room for friends and I get a comfortable good ride.

To best describe how I feel about this product I think its best I explain the history and a little bit about me. I was a senior in highschool and I drove a buick lesabre. As I was going to turn for my normal route to school a truck ran the red light ...

Pros: 35MP/40MPG MP3 Player 30-35 dollars fills up the tank
Cons: Nervousness from getting crushed by a SUV. Seats can be uncomfortable on long drives. Noisy.
The Bottom Line: Great budget car with excellent gas mileage. However, increased vigilance necessary to avoid potential fatal accidents. Great for a commuter.

Overview I purchased this car after driving my father's Camry for most of my life. I got fed up with the poor gas mileage on the camry. I was deciding whether to buy a Corolla or the Yaris. Both cars are similarly equipped and have ...

Pros: Fuel mileage, sporty appearance, easy parking, price
Cons: None yet
The Bottom Line: You can't go wrong if you're looking for a reliable car to get you from A to B cheaply while keeping a sporty appearance.

After driving a 1993 Toyota Corolla for 14 years it was time to get a new car. I thought I wanted to get another Corolla but could not justify the price they were asking. A salesman talked me into test driving the Yaris. I couldn't believe the room it ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Excellent gas mileage and range. Good ride/seat Very roomy MP3 jack great
Cons: Road noise is loud No cruise control Speedometer hard to see w/trifocals
The Bottom Line: This is not a BMW but for what it is you can't beat it! I'd buy it again.

While the front of the car is somewhat short and stubby I'm really getting used to it already. The rear of the car is rather nice but the flat sides are rather hideous. The interior is very well laid out but focusing on the center mounted speedometer ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Refined engine, room, boot, A/C, gearshift
Cons: No sense of power or urgency from engine, hard suspension
The Bottom Line: Great commuter car, good in city traffic, but built to proce, not a real sedan

I have driven the Yaris around for 3 months and found it to be a great little car wth all the typical Toyota traits: lots of car for a little money, great fuel efficiency, clean build and design and no quality problems. But here in the Middle East, the ...

Pros: Great styling. Gas mileage. Cool AC. Responsive tracking/good ride!
Cons: I have found nothing bad, about this car.
The Bottom Line: I see this car as the necessary answer to the rise in gas prices. So much comfort and such good options, make this car, the wave of the future!

I bought the Yaris, sight unseen, I never took a test drive, I merely went to a local dealership, sat in the various models, looked in disgust at the add ons and mark-ups from the dealer, and then went to the credit union and had the car delivered to my ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Price $15,400 fully loaded, fuel economy, Toyota quality. 8 air bags.
Cons: Funny center dash, but it is easier to use.
The Bottom Line: Buy this car-still made in Japan, and if it is anything like our other Toyotas it will run 250K with minimal problems.

I needed to replace my wifes Toyota truck, and as she had been using it as a commuter (20MPG or less) we deceided that a car would be a better choice with fuel prices the way they are. We wanted to stay with Toyota, as we have owned 4 and they have ...

The Bottom Line: Great little car for space & fuel.

My fiance purchased a 2008 Yaris for "us", he said as he put his belongings in the trunk. The said trunk of this car has great depth & width. Forgive my lack of specs, but it easily fit a huge boxed-up Costo run. Moving onto the interior of the car, ...

Pros: decent power, good mpg, tight suspension, good for city driving, comfortable seating
Cons: new car smell, claustrophobic interior, very noisy and harsh ride.
The Bottom Line: Best for city driving and not for extended highway driving

The return of the fun economy car.

by DesignSmith
May 23 '08

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: MPG, storage bins, style, interior layout, hatchback utility, ease of maintenance, owners web forums
Cons: view through rear window, option pricing and availability, seat bottom comfort
The Bottom Line: The most enjoyable ride for the minimum amount of fuel of the few economy class cars on the road.

To be honest, I didn't want to give up the utility of my Suzuki XL-7 small SUV, but at $3.75/gallon, the fuel savings on the Yaris makes the loan payment, and at $4 I am saving money each month. If you liked the old Civic hatchback (CRX or ...

Pros: AWESOME MPG, roomy interior for small car, big trunk, fits carseats
Cons: Seats not very comfortable, doesn't coast, light shine in eyes
The Bottom Line: Toyota gives you a tiny little vehicle, yet allows you plenty of interior space, adds a few little perks here and there, and blows you away with fabulous gas mileage.

We just bought a 2008 Toyota Yaris Sedan. Our entire reason for purchasing it was for the great gas mileage. We have a family friend who's driven a Yaris for a couple years now (purchased one shortly after they were introduced to the market), and he ...

I read a review from a fellow who was 6'4". I'm not quite that tall. I'm at least 6'2", I figure. I'd like the car if my legs felt comfortable. Lack of comfort was why I traded off the Echo. In that car, the window crank knob stuck into one knee. The ...

Cheap and unpretentious
by wildkard58
Nov 05 '08
Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No
Pros: Cheap
Good on gas
Cons: Cheap interior
Noisy and not comfy when driven
I had a Yaris sedan as a rental.  The kids liked the hatchback but said the sedan was "ugly".

This car is very economical and good on gas.  It's peppy in town and looks to be a nice fit for university students, 2nd car for young moms and first car for those fresh out of school.

The things I did not like about this car is the cheapness of the interior.  Do not expect anything "upscale" about the interior of the Yaris sedan.  I'm 6 feet tall and my head was barely an inch from the ceiling (I found interior space lacking).

In town driving was okay and the car is adequate for virtually all driving situations in the city.  On the highway, the car is noisy (engine and exterior noise) and not very comfortable.

The Yaris sedan is what it is:  an unpretentious vehicle.  It is something that is cheap, economical and fuel efficient.  This car will not be a good fit for some people - especially those that are big, tall and expect a better ride.  In this car segment, these people should check out the Nissan Versa sedan.

Pros: Gas mileage, affordability, maneuverability, parking ease, adorable to look at, great sound system
Cons: Zero to date, we have had this car for about 8 months.
We traded in a yukon for this little Yaris. While it was a tough transition at first, due to the size difference...we quickly fell in love. Top performance, easy to drive, maneuver, park, 40 mi to the gallon!! This car saves up hundreds a month over that SUV. It is cute, affordable and fast**!

Thank you Toyota for making a quality, economical car!

Greatest little car

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: Gas milage, cargo area, glove compartments, drives well, comfortable seats, easy to maintain
Cons: Easy to forget where you parked it, ABS braking system is hard to find.
I purchased my Yaris in May 2008 as my old Camry finally died.  This car is great.  Granted people do make fun of it's size, but when it only costs 15 bucks to fill it up for the week I laugh at them.  I purchased the 2dr hatch back.  The back seats fold down and you'd be amazed at the amount of stuff you can get into the cargo area.  I moved my mom with it, and we only needed a truck for the big furnature.  I can also say that a Lazy boy recliner will fit in the back, but you do need to tie down the tail gate.

The hatchback seats four adults comfortably with enough leg room so that those in the back seat don't feel like they are crammed into the car.  My Yaris has reclining/adjustable rear seats so that more room can be added or subtracted from the rear of the car.  The instrument panel on this vehicle is in the middle, which does take some getting used to.  But after a few days of driving it, viewing the instruments from the middle of the dash becomes second nature.

Pros: Gas mileage, private storage, flexibility (hatchback)
Cons: Seats (lumbar support), noise, ride
Good value with the car. We were able to take our Rottweiler to the vet with no problems. Car gets great gas mileage for the buck. Compare to hybrids, this car maximizes value. The car is small, noisy, and feels every bump as compared to other small cars in the class. If you are looking for luxury - this is not your car. I would recommend knowing your requirements and taking a test drive.

Awesome gas mileage, 2 consoles, water bottle holders in the dash. We purchased the extended warranty (we keep our toyota for 10 years). This is our 3rd Toyota (1995 Tercel, 2004 Matrix (we still own), and 2008 Yaris)
