Pros: Toyota-smooth and quiet, quick acceleration, AWD, versatile hatchback cargo area. Cons: Toyota-soft and isolated; long, gritty shifter and clutch action, feels large from the driver's seat. The Bottom Line: Subaru seems to want to groom the WRX into an A4 or 3-Series rival. It isn't. Instead, the new WRX falls in that bad place between slick and soporific.
Background What is it with today's automotive designers copying the look of Toyota's Corolla? Oft-derided as the nadir of automotive desirability, the lowly Corolla clearly "inspired" the restyle of Volkswagen's Jetta in 2005, then did the same ...

Pros: Quick, quiet, AWD traction Cons: Numb steering, loose suspension, buried driving position, awdward styling, cheap interior materials The Bottom Line: Misconceived in so many ways. Better alternatives are avaialble for less money unless you must have all-wheel-drive.
The Subaru WRX began as one of those cars on the other side of the proverbial fence. It was available overseas, but not in the U.S. So we really, really wanted it. Oftentimes, when such "forbidden fruit" finally does become available, all those people ...

Pros: Engine, Transmission, AWD, Comfort, Accelleration. Cons: Manual transmission shifter feels vague. Tires a little skinny. The Bottom Line: Its a better car than most of the public is aware of.
I recently bought my very first Subaru and its a 2008 WRX, sedan, manual tranny. Having been a loyal Honda owner for a long time I never really thought about other cars too much. Honda's legendary reliability kept me buying Honda's for years now. ...

Pros: Likeable, affordable all-wheel drive, pretty good size and power, decent mileage Cons: Body rust bubbling up underneath the paint with less than 3,500 miles on the odometer The Bottom Line: Subaru seems to be losing sight of it's customer demographic. This base model is diluted to the point of blandness.
To my knowledge no one else has reviewed the base, vanilla version of this car, so here goes. Over the last 15 years, there have been several Subarus in my family, all of which I have driven, Imprezas, Legacies, and Foresters. I too have ...

Pros: AWD, acceleration(when the engine works), Interior room, appearance of materials. Cons: Durability of interior plastic(resistance to scuffs), paint, Subaru's specification ratings, Manual Transmission, Engine Control system. The Bottom Line: I would not buy a 2008 WRX again. The 2009 has more power, and more standard appearance features. I am changing now (10/09) my review to recommended to friends now.
I'm going to try to remain un-biased in this review, but currently purchasing this car has me in the dog house with my wife. We bought this car and ultimately it has replaced a 2002 Nissan X-terra that didn't see a mechanic once in 6 years and 90,000 ...

Pros: Solid construction Good low end torque Functional interior AWD surefootedness Fun to drive Cons: Mediocre mileage Some dash squeaks Mediocre auto transmission Warranty intervals too tight The Bottom Line: Recommended to those seeking a reliable and safe mode of transportation. It offers a spirited driving experience but within limits. AWD is enhances winter safety at the expense of economy.
I've owned my OBS for just over a year. I chose the OBS over the standard model to gain some extra niceties such as upgraded cloth and wheels, roof rack, cargo tray and heated seats. Mechanical and PerformanceIn ...

Pros: Initially a superb vehicle that could sell itself. Cons: It doesn't take to miles very well. Subaru Service is horrible. The Bottom Line: Only buy this car if you can get it for under $20,000 with an extended warranty. The initial quality sinks like a rock.
When shopping for my vehicle I was looking for a performance vehiclewith all wheel drive. These two items limited me to an Impreza WRX, or a Mitsubishi EVO. I was unable to do a direct comparison between the two as I live in Maine and there were no EVO's ...

Pros: Fantastic ride, great handling, Stability control is very good, so quiet on the highway. Cons: A little bit underpowered but nothing a simple ecu reflash wont fix.
I dont know what is wrong with everybody else but I bought my 08 wrx on july 30th 2008. Now its only been seven months, but in that time the car has made a big impression. I install car audio for a living and I can tell you as far as interior build quality goes this car is top notch. Anyone who complains about the quality, just tell them to go drive or sit in a cobalt. Its amazing the dashboard even stays in those.
Everybody seems to be negative twards the 08 since the 09 is apparently better. But for under $300 with a tactrix cable and a xpt tune you can have better than 09 performance for MUCH cheaper. Plus the 09 has a SERIOUS engine failure issue. A high percentage of them develop rod knock. Not my 08. Shes still going strong.
To the 08 haters, Go ahead and buy a 09.. Ill keep my 08 and not have to replace the enigne after 1200 miles.
