Pros: Drives serenely, rides solidly, tastefully finished.
Cons: Middling rear seat comfort, conflict between driver’s armrest and cupholder, syrupy transmission, blue-chip pricing.
The Bottom Line: The E-Class could be called the Camry of its class. It’s a stodgy, traditional car—and, thus, a bit boring—but is comfy, well-rounded, and oozes quality.

Pros: Looks expensive, feels solid, composed chassis, supportive seats
Cons: Dead steering, seats too firm for many
The Bottom Line:

Steering that isolates the driver from the car keeps me from recommending it, despite many other strengths. Does look and feel expensive.

I'm old enough to remember when Mercedes used the tagline "engineered like no other car in the world," and no one questioned it. When the 1986 W124 E-Class was introduced, Car & Driver called it simply "the best car in the world."In the ...
