Pros: It only lasts 117 minutes Cons: Not much truth
300 (2006) As a history buff I had to finally see 300 and once I did I had mixed feelings. The movie was quite well made visually, and about 90% of it was computer generated. The story, acting, and music was very questionable ...
Pros: Story, acting, artistic vision of the director Cons: Will be too violent for many viewers
I'm not a reader of graphic novels but I have enjoyed both the films based on Frank Miller's work including "Sin City" and this film. Since I had not read the source material for this film, I really didn't know what to expect other than from the ...

Pros: good back-drops visually Cons: weak supporting cast, got really boring, should have been more exciting, "eh" story
Bringing graphic novels to the big screen got a lot easier with several innovations in the use of blue-screen technology. The film 300 does its best to take full advantage of that, presenting its actors in front of digitally altered and imaged ...
Pros: No one denies its visual appeal; a real feast for the eyes Cons: Very little substance, stilted dialogue, homophobic overtones, overacted in parts
O, how I love a sword-and-sandals epic. I love it even more when the actors look like the casting call for a Bally’s commercial. Director Zack Snyder may have just created the ultimate anti-chickflick (dickflick?). Feast your eyes on ...
Pros: Amazing visuals, does honor to an epic historical legend. Cons: Takes liberties with an epic historical legend.
Graphic novelist (aka comics artist) and writer Frank Miller seems to be on a roll. As far as translating works from story art to big screen is concerned, Miller is very likely the premiere writer/artist in his field. You may or may not know ...
Pros: Lots of action, cool visuals Cons: Too much slow-motion
300 is a new movie based on Frank Miller’s comic books of the same name. The comic was inspired by the real-life Battle of Thermopylae, which took place in 480 BC and is considered one of the most famous ‘last stands’ in history. The story is ...

Pros: Visual effects; music; acting; action; story Cons: It's a whole lot of violence and testosterone in one sitting
In my experience, truly enjoyable movies are either about very deep, complicated things, but simple in execution, or about very simple ideas and stunning in visual feats, sound, and all the extras. 300 falls into the latter group. ...
Pros: Amazing graphics and cinematography; fantastic characters; artful. Cons: Perhaps a little overdramatized, but still fitting with the graphic novel theme.
I just woke up after about 6 hours of sleep and all I can say is wow! Last night I saw the midnight premiere of 300 and I can still see the fantastic scenes from this amazing movie in my head after dreaming about them all night. I had seen all the ...
Pros: Oooh...looks pretty! Cons: Plot development stops too soon, redundant beyond belief, entire battles fought in slow motion.
Im generally not that picky about my action-packed loosely historical epics. In fact, I even loved Troy, which was widely panned by critics and movie-goers. 300 had nearly all the makings of a film I should have loved. Action and ...
Sometimes, the trouble is worth it. I mean, I waited for weeks to get my hands on Stephen King’s Lisey’s Story , almost cussing out a librarian in the process. My wait was more than worth it as it turned out ...
Pros: Good acting from the leads, cinematography and fight scenes. Intense Cons: Not many real characters, takes some historical liberty, overwrought at times
I learned something from the film 300 that the producers probably didn't intend. Evidently, the Spartans were actually Scottish. I say that only because the memorable ones in the movie spoke with a Scottish accent. I kid, of course, but I only ...
Pros: The Special effects, cast, acting, directing, score, CG & Camera work are awesome! Cons: A bit bloody for the squeamish.

I am a student of history and so I was more than intrigued by the movie 300 (2006) the graphic novel retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae in Greece written by Fran Miller. The year was 480 B.C., and a force of 300 Spartans from the now ...

Pros: Outstanding visual presentation of famous battle. Great lead performance from Gerard Butler. Cons: Excruciating subplot.
The Battle of Thermopylae is one of the most interesting historical events I’ve ever read about. The fact that a small group of men were able to hold off a vastly superior army was fascinating and inspiring. There had only been one prior film version of ...
Pros: Amazing action scenes, strong main characters and themes. Glorifies freedom instead of war Cons: may be too violent and gory for some.
The Top Line An epic historical adaptation of the battle of Thermopylae. The 300 Spartans make a stand against the oncoming Persian hordes and actually change the course of history. A violent and dark movie, with a few sex scenes thrown in – ...
Pros: Great Fight Scenes, An Interesting Historic Story Cons: Slow Pacing, Very Violent and Graphic, Not the Greatest Dialogue
Nothing really gets me going like a good action movie that has the storyline of an actual event like Troy or The Patriot, so naturally, I was excited when I first heard about this movie and saw the previews. It was to be an epic picture ...
Pros: Snyder's Direction, Look, Cinematography, Editing, Music, Visual Effects, & Cast. Cons: Won't Be Taken Very Seriously Among Historical Buffs.
One of the most historical battles ever was the Battle of Thermopylae where a million Persians fought against several groups of small armies during the Persian war. One of those armies was a group of 300 soldiers from the Greek state of Sparta known ...
Pros: Beautifully conceived and filmed. Harsh and raw. Excellent characterization. Cons: Some will find it violent and shocking.
Graphic novels have led to the dawn of a new day in film-making. And although these films are not for everyone (witness the disparity in the ratings already given by Epinions reviewers!) visually, those who have popularized this technique lead the way ...
Pros: Awesome use of cinematography, coloring, great acting; well done! Cons: Definitely not for everyone (violence and weirdness)
I decided my sister and I needed to see a movie. Reno 911? Ghost Rider? We were a little torn until I read so many good reviews about 300. Id been wary until then, knowing it was going to be weird, and remembered Sin ...
Pros: Stunning graphics, hard bodies (m/f), proven recipe of Good vs. Evil ... Cons: Very gory, relatively shallow (95% fight / 5% story), overly stereotyped
Every now an then you get a welcome deviation from standard movies and the unique look of Sky Captain, Gladiator and now 300 stands out from the crowd -- thanks to computer wizards. The highly stylized preview for 300 promised a lot of intense battle ...
Pros: Great fight scenes, interesting cinematography, some decent effects Cons: silly dialog, overuse of slow motion, too much reliance on style instead of substance
Its been a while since I took Junior high history and studied the Spartans. What I do remember is that they were fierce warriors. Apparently Frank Miller wanted to focus on this when he wrote the graphic novel (comic book) 300. And of course, that ...
Pros: Action packed, fun, great dialog. Cons: A bit violent for younger viewers.
Action, adventure, and suspense are integral qualities in any good movie. To suite my taste a movie has to have some variety and fast moving scenes. A little innovative camera work can make me love a film if it's done with a purpose and well executed. ...
Pros: More action than you can shake a stick at; fantastic visuals. Cons: Plot? What plot?
"300" is one of the most stylish, visually arresting action epics I've ever seen. Horror fans should remember "300's" director, Zack Snyder, as the man who helmed the excellent "Dawn of the Dead" remake just three short years ago. He ...
Pros: Could inspire a decent W/O on the fundamentals of Western civilization for those so inclined Cons: Most viewers of this film won't be

I haven't enjoyed myself in a movie theatre so much since...I dont even remember...maybe the last Star Wars movie? The 300 is an awesome movie, for lack of a better word and is an experience on it's own. I urge everyone not to wait until the dvd, go ...
Pros: King Leonidas has an unintentionally funny voice. Cons: A single thought that wasn't belligerent and absolute would have been nice.
You really can direct and watch 300 with your head chopped off. All you need are balls. At any given moment in this movie I was waiting for the Spartan warriors to compare the size of their testicles - you know, just whip them out and go, ...
Pros: Great cinematography in some shots, very stylish, true story Cons: The screenplay falls a little flat, characters are too one dimensional
This movie is a movie which I could see from several different perspectives. One is a movie which will appeal to those who loved the look and feel of the equally stylistic 'Sin City', with one great distinction. It's based on fact, the battle of ...
Pros: intriguing computer graphics, fairly good acting Cons: had a "been there done that" feel, not historically accurate
The Spartans were a warrior state who took fighting to the level of an art form. The men were soldiers...that was their profession, and they spent every day training and subjecting their bodies to the most rigorous conditioning. Babies were closely ...
Pros: looks good, ok acting Cons: borrows too much from other films
This film was entertaining, but very violent. It was very dramatic as well. I believe it was trying to be another Braveheart, but it doesn't have the depth. It reminds me visually of Troy and in some scenes Gladiator. It is based on a graphic novel ...
Pros: Visually stunning Cons: A tad overhyped. Acting a little cheesy

Pros: Music and some light moments, some moving scenes. Cons: Cheapened the entire event and those involved.
The story is classic. Thermopylae. The Spartans set array with the mighty Persian empire, vastly outnumbered and the heroic tale of centuries. The historical aspect is fairly close to stories I have read with the exception of how Xerxes was portrayed. ...
Pros: Beautiful visuals that are loyal to the original graphic novel Cons: Stilted dialogue and two-dimensional characters that are loyal to the original graphic novel
I truly wanted to love this movie. I was a fan of Sin City, and while I felt the movie was inherently flawed, I still thoroughly enjoyed it and walked out of the theater feeling as if my nine dollars was well spent. I can just barely say the same for ...
Pros: Stunning visual reinterpretation of an Epic Comic. Cons: Bloody and violent.
300 is the Zack Snyder adaptation of the Frank Miller graphic novel. It tells a story based on the battle of Thermopylae. First and foremost, this is an action movie. It is not a historical drama. Grading it is a historical drama is much ...

The movie “300” tells the legendary Greek tale of King Leonidas of Sparta who led 300 men against the massed hordes of the Persian Empire in the “Battle of Thermopylae”. It is a film adaptation based ...
Pros: It looks friggin' cool. Cons: Not a whole lot to the characters; the story kind of gets lost.
I'm not sure how historically accurate 300 is. I'm not that familiar with the battle of Thermopylae, but I'm guessing that the filmmakers took a few liberties. I'm also not that familiar with Frank Miller's work, but I found that I was constantly ...
Pros: great special effects, an artful filming style Cons: flat characters, inability to capture depth to not only the characters but the historical significance
No Spoiler. The director, Zack Synder, who directed the horror film, Dawn of the Dead, has created an art in his theatrical film 300; however, he fails to add a sense of substance to his flat and one-dimensional characters, as ...
Pros: The set decorations and virtual scenery are the stars. Cons: No story, no plot, leaves you unattached

Pros: Gerard Butler is a nice presence, film is beautiful. Cons: Just a little excessive in style and lacking in substance.

Oh my my my. The groundhogs must have been hung over on their day this year. Not only did they miss their shadows, they never went outside at all. It's only March and we're already in the middle of the summer. 300 may not be a part of the summer movie ...
Pros: Visually interesting, guy movie, cool battles. Cons: Weak storyline and flat characters
This review is by someone who did not follow any comic books the movie was based on. I only saw the movie knowing it was about Spartans fighting against odds and that it was made by the same people who did Sin City, such as Frank Miller. So do not ...
Pros: Concept of re-imagining history as a comic book is exciting Cons: Boring, derivative, some annoying cultural bias
300 is perhaps the greatest example of how trailers and the actual films they are derived from are completely different creatures. The trailer for Zack Snyder’s movie is one of the greatest I have ever seen, as it achieves the most important goal of any ...
Pros: Some good fighting scenes, use of CG, decent acting. Cons: Use of CG, repetitive fighting scenes, poor plot, slow-mow overkill etc.
I was looking forward to watching this movie, hopping that not knowing much about the story would turn out to be a nice little surprise and treat. It was not to be. The story is as follows: some 5 centuries BC, Persian King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) is ...
Pros: Nearly everything in this film comes together to make it a must see! Cons: Definitely not for the squeamish! Realists may not like some monstrous characters.

Pros: Great Action, special effects, lots of blood! Cons: Violence dominates but who cares!
If you enjoy bloodbath movies which hurl more action than story at you then 300 will tickle your fancy. In the many action sequences you'll say oooh and aaaaah plenty as 300 Spartan warriors butcher the Persian army. Frank Miller, director of Sin City, ...
Pros: Sepia-like colors make a good impact, good fight scenes, reasonably accurate to history Cons: Gratutious sex scenes, silly subplot, heavy reliance on "Matrix effects"
I don't watch a lot of TV nor do I watch very many movies, so I hadn't really heard of 300 until a friend suggested catching a matinee. Hence, I really didn't know what to expect, except from an iTunes trailer. From the trailer, I did expect the ...
Pros: Amazing telling of one the greatest moments in history. Cons: Not a family movie.
I have never read Frank Miller's graphic novel of "300", but that doesn't mean I can't have a very full opinion of this movie. Just to say, I love this movie in so many ways; it's truly one of the most entertaining movies I've seen in years. I have ...
Pros: Very good action sequences. Cons: A very thin plot and no character building

Pros: Gerard Butler is HOT! .. Excellent Cinematography .. Cons: ... pretty much everything else
Considered the ultimate 'guy' flick, "300" is a cinematic phenomenon that cannot be lightly swept aside. Not since 2000's epic, "Gladiator," have we seen a man, dressed in full war gear, shouting at the top of his lungs and all but beating his manly ...
Pros: Decent effects, Interesting moments of character, Good DVD extras Cons: Annoying voice-overs, Not much in the way of acting
It's a sad day when our history lessons come from big special effects movies. I'm not saying that there's no value in historical fiction, because there is, but when what we come to know about history comes mostly in the form of entertainment, that's ...
Pros: Great Computer Graphics, Great Action Scenes in an Epic for Action Lover's. Cons: Slow in some spots, with some discrepiences in historical fact.
300 is both a factually and fable based interpretation of the awesome graphic novel by Frank Miller. While based in fact, Frank Miller took on the point of view of the ultimate winner of an ancient conflict, the Spartans, in a story that has been ...
Pros: Good sets, Great Physique, Exciting action Cons: Violence Kill Bill Style, No Strategy

Pros: Good visual effects...that's about it. Cons: Plot doesn't flow, characters are unrealistic, whole movie seems haphazardly thrown together.

Pros: Incredible action. Amazing fight scenes. And great one-liners. Unique special effects. Cons: Needed to be longer. Some nudity. Not for kids younger than sixteen.
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Zach Snyder is a pioneer in making movies. He has his own style that really adds to the mood of a film. 300 is no exception. The setting is in ancient Sparta where warfare is taught at a very young age. Many say ...
Pros: moving, well filmed, good special effects but not over the top Cons: not for the squeamish or children
I anticipated the release of this movie with wariness. Everyone knows that movies made from books often take liberties with the book. However, this is not the case here. The graphic novel by Frank Miller, although a classic, is brief enough for its ...
Pros: Great Action, Extremely Violent, Picture Perfect. Cons: Possibly Too Violent.

Pros: Good Animation Cons: Nothing to do with real 300 story

Pros: captivating, intense. Incredible jobs on the special effects Cons: A lot of artistic license. Not much dialogue, but actions definitely speak louder than words!!

Pros: Great fight sequences, abs Cons: Movie is too short, I hoped for a little more fighting.

Pros: great visual appeal, great action Cons: linear storytelling, more surreal than realistic
When I first saw 300 I was awed by its visual effects and sheer surreality it all. However, over-all, I thought it was too theatrical, it's cast over acting and the events depicted in the movie exaggerated; made more for visual appeal rather than ...
Pros: comic book like visuals Cons: It would have been a great video for the old song "Macho Man"
David Denby is one half of the film critic team for the "New Yorker" magazine. I've always enjoyed his writing and his take on movies. After seeing 300 at a week day matinee by myself, and feeling my senses go numb from the repetitive stabbing and ...
Pros: Great battle scenes, special effects Cons: Not too original a story but then is history
Epic picture with lots of blood, vain-glorious speech but doubt it will rank up with the all time greats. Glad I only rented this movie, not one to go back to time and again. Maybe it is my femaleness that does not really like violence. While I ...
Pros: visuals, characters, sexiness, action Cons: could use more story

Pros: The first movie to satisfy even the most skeptical and cynical of tastes. Cons: The only cons are in the eyes of the movies attempting to compete.

Pros: Great action, great fun Cons: Can be a bit too manly
300 is one of the most anticipated films out back in 2006. It is as engaging of a movie as a man can be a man. Based on Frank Millar's graphic novel, the material remains true to the author's original vision. The action is gritty, unrelenting, and ...
Pros: Well done visual scenes. Cons: Acting was good, but could have been slightly better.
The movie as a whole is a very condensed version of what happened in this great battle of the Spartans, and Persians. I do truly think that they did well to play out the story in this way though, because I don't think giving a movie of this type 3 hours ...
"Gerard Butler Was Splendid as King Leonidas. 300 is Splendid in IMAX" by zenmachado, ,Apr 07 '07
Pros: David Wenham's Strong Narration - Strong Queen Lena Headey - 300 Delivers Passion Cons: Resonates with passion.. gives great eye candy... brings a G.N. to life.. bad? hmm..
"300" is based on a graphic novel (same name) by Frank Miller. Its about the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C. Where the King of Sparta (Leonidas)led his army against King Xerxes and his advancing Persians army.
A film that's not historically accurate. For it possesses mystical elements that served as delicious eye hors d'oeuvres.
You receive the visual delight of monster like creatures, giant elephants, a giant "God Like" Xerxes, and a oracle beauty. All displayed with wonderful CGI effects that blend reality and fiction splendidly.
The computer created landscapes and scenery were beautiful, captivating, and finely crafted.
The maximum enjoy factor, is its action and brutal violence. It holds vicious and graphic content, displaying a multitude of mutilating and buckets of blood. With slow motion sequences that artfully freezes, the fluidity and exhilaration of the adrenaline, in the war sequences.
Yet also, the story at a crucial point, shows the turmoil & heartbreak that result from war and horrid acts of violence.
With a solid story, "300" delivers engaging character development and a complete action thrill ride.
Pros: Stunning effect, Great music, Good overall Cons: Lengthy and lack of any real plot
The special effects are over the top. I noticed some complain of battles in slow motion but I think it shows how 300 can kill so many! I think the plot could of used alittle work but hey how much can you pack into a story of warriors on a battlefield. I think this movie is simply stunning.
Pros: Good storyline with some historical accuracy, magnificent special effects Cons: has some creatures in it that are out of place
The movie 300 was a great movie, the story was amazing. it had wondrous fight scenes paired with great special effects. It followed some historical accuracy even though I believe that they should have followed it a little bit more with how it related to the entire war between the Persians and Greeks, not just the battle of Thermopylae. The characters were great even though overacted sometimes. However, some characters, shouldn't have been there (such as the goat playing the instrument and the fat executioner) and somewhat ruined the mood for me. However, I loved the fact how they portrayed elephants and rhinos in the movie based on how the Spartans saw them. Overall it was a fantastic movie and would be a great buy for anyone.
Not historically accurate but highly entertaining by hwhitcomb26 ,Mar 19 '07
Pros: highly entertaining and stimulating Cons: not historically accurate
The 300 lacks historical accuracy. The Battle of Thermopylae did occur against the Persian king Xerxes. The Spartans, led by Leonidas, did make a stand against the Persians in a narrow pass in Northern Greece. They were betrayed and the Persians discovered a goat path which led to the other side of the pass and crushed the Spartans between. Other than this, little is accurate about the battle and surrounding details. However, the way the movie is filmed is fantastic. Sound effects are overwhelming as is the fighting. The battle scenes are gory and graphic. The acting is quite good.
Pros: Great storyline, action packed, thrilling Cons: we all know how it turns out because it's fact based.
My boyfriend mentioned this movie months ago and I definitely didn't want to see it. I wasn't a fan of Sin City so I figured this would be the same kind of movie. This movie had me interested from the start and I would recommend this movie to anyone over 15. There were children in the theatre under 10 and this wasn't appropriate at all.
GREAT MOVIE PEOPLE..trust me...i'm a tough critic
My Opinion of the Movie by brazildragon ,Mar 12 '07
Pros: Action and special effects were Mind-Blowing Cons: Too much nudity
Since Action and a good story make up my kind of movie, 300 was a real blast in the theatre for me. The fighting and special effects were mind-blowing, but the naked oracle was completely unnecessary. 300 is way too violent for young people, but it is one of those movies that will knock the crap right out of those with week constitutions. All those who want a good movie that beats all the other bogus, low- budget movies out right now should grab your wallet and go see this movie right now!
This is madness..No, this is SPARTA! by acebandit ,Mar 19 '07
Pros: Action packed, great effects, awesome story line. Cons: I got sick of some of the nudity and felt it was unnecessary.
Although I have never read the comic book on which this movie was based, I am having second thoughts about not doing so. The 300 was so action packed, and never skimped out on plot like many other movies I had seen. This is definetely a must see for any Greco-Roman era history buff.
Brilliant but could be better by arrowheaddd ,Jun 09 '08
Pros: Beautifully choreographed scenes Cons: Story line and character development could be stronger.
This has to be one of the single most gorgeous films produced. Almost like someone figured out what the most visually stimulating images a mind could process and pieced it together into an exceptional film. The story line is obviously exaggerated and the are instances of blatant poetic license but overall it is hard to argue that this is a film that is for the most part ahead of its time.
Pros: Action filled, remains true to graphic novel, inspiring Cons: Some scenes are disturbing to watch and the movie is a little long
Frank Miller's graphic novel is beautifully translated into the big screen with this work. Although most of the time gory and violet, it still inspires. The scenes are epic and the heart of the Spartan culture is seen throughout the entire movie.
Great Movie - Epic and Action Packed by bartimaeus710 ,Feb 19 '08
Pros: Great fights & epic battles. Full of Action Cons: Many moments of slow motion
300 is a great movie for fans of action films & epic battles. Good storyline and the characters, which seem to be fighting just for honor. Dispite the over exageration of slow motion moments, this movie is a great action film
THIS IS SPARTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by buzzinfrogg ,Mar 22 '07
Pros: lots of action and fight scenes, good visuals Cons: true story, they have to die in the end
This is a great movie, its the true story of the battle in Thermopolis where 300 Spartans took on the Persian empire of 1 million. The movie exaggerates a bit but it makes for good visuals. This is a great movie and a better way to spend 8+ dollars than seeing a boring Hugh Grant movie.
Not worth the 300 minutes it felt like by dylanangel2001 ,Apr 22 '08
Pros: nice graphics Cons: boring, no plot, no girl entertainment value
Yes the graphics were nice but being a chick I need more than graphics to keep me occupied for a 2.5 hour movie. The plot line is thin with some cheesy catch-phrases that you will hear from your significant other forever and ever (cause you wouldn't have picked this to see if it were just you...you'd be sitting in something funny that actually had a plot). I went with a group of guys and maybe one other girl. The guys thoroughly enjoyed the blood and gore and the fact that there was a fight scene ever .2 milliseconds. If you're also hoping that there will be a sweet love story component to this action flick, you'd be wrong there as well. True, some women can always find the silver lining of an action movie with some good kissy scenes and the fact that he's doing all this fighting for a woman that he cares deeeeeeeply about. This is not one of those movies. Save yourself the time and money ladies....let him rent it when you are on a girls night out.
Based on the epic graphic novel by Frank Miller, 300 is a ferocious retelling of the ancient Battle of Thermopylae in which King Leonidas (Gerard Butl...More at HotMovieSale.com
