GREAT until the DVD stops working

by immrtldream , Jul 14 '04
Pros: Great features, space saver.
Cons: DVD player stopped working.
I have had this unit for a couple of years now and totally LOVED IT! I loved that it was a DVD/VCD/CD/CD-R/MP3/VHS/S-VHS player all in one! I love the video/audio on both the front and the back, I love that you can set the VCR for multiple recording ...

Samsung's Combo DVD / VHS Player - What a Disappointment! Lean-N-Mean W/O

by pianomam Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Dec 01 '02
Pros: Nice space-saving idea.
Cons: Well, with no volume, at least you won't damage your hearing!
Ah, the glow of the Channukka candles reflecting off the excited faces of our children as they rip the blue wrapping paper off the first gift of the 2001 holiday season ... a Samsung combination DVD / VHS player!

Our family had been wanting to...

Great Machine for Apartments

by sfhiggins , Jul 17 '02
Pros: One-box DVD, CD, CDR, VHS player (and VCR) at a very reasonable price.
Cons: Lack of features - no Jog/Shuttle
I purchased this machine about a year ago and use it as my DVD player, VCR, and CD player. I sold my existing DVD player (a Samsung DVD812 that I was very happy with) to a friend rather than buying a new VCR and CD player for myself and being stuck with...

Put all the fun in one box.

by kinghitter , Jun 26 '02
Pros: Very good features, nice remote, easy to understand, looks nice.
Cons: If you leave a dvd in the player it will revert back to it later.
This machine is pretty neat, you can use dvds, vhs, vcds, mp3 data discs , and other multimedia devices. You are paying this low price for about 6 or 7 machines in one.

Remote:The remote is pretty cool only problem is, is that if you break it...

Not bad after the headaches

by alphaproject , Apr 04 '02
Pros: 2 in 1 design, copy function
Cons: copy function doesnt always work
Ok, the unit first arrived and we set it up to the TV. We watched a movie and it had 5 minutes left to go and shut off. We had to send it to the repair shop authorized by Samsung the very first day. Needless to say this made us very upset since it was a...

Best of Both Worlds

by obisan69 , Mar 25 '02
Pros: Great space saver, with great picture and sound quality
Cons: None for me
I’m a second year college student, and when I moved from the dorm to an apartment, my tiny little TV/VCR combo was just not enough for my large living room, especially because we had our couch fairly far away. The sound and picture quality weren’t...

A DVD/VCR all in one machine!

by kwsbanker , Feb 11 '02
Pros: Great for people with space constraints, double VCR/DVD in one unit
Cons: Picture quality not quite as good as stand-alone unit; need good cables!
The Samsung DVD-V1000 is a great, compact machine that will provide you with hours of entertainment pleasure using both a VCR and a DVD player, built into one unit. This will help save you space (you only need one unit, instead of 2), and for those of...

Good choice for DVD+VCR combo

by mikeb0515 , Jan 29 '02
Pros: DVD/VCR/CD player all in one
Cons: Need different color than silver
I have procrastinated for several months on making a purchase for a replacement for our VCR. The old VCR (Sony) works well, but has the bad habit of not taking up the slack on the tape when unloading, with the consequence of the tape catching on one of...

Nice Unit, Nice Price

by Jacknife , Jan 24 '02
Pros: Strong feature set Component video output VCR is great
Cons: Duplication of Output ports Dolby Digital Output issue (see review)
I decided to purchase this unit for a variety of reasons that I think are very important to the review.

I bought this unit to replace:
1 Proscan single-disc DVD player
1 JVC S-VHS VCR
1 Teac 5-disc CD changer

The...

DVD-V5000

by doreiwolf , Jan 04 '02
Pros: DVD and Video player in one component. Good quality in just about everything.
Cons: Irritatingly 'helpful'; joystick a bit 'touchy'
This is actually a review of the DVD-V5000 since epinions don't have it actually listed yet.

Firstly, the differences (that I know of) between the 1000 and the 5000:
The 5000 is the same as the 1000 but has Zoom function, and headphone...

Great VHS & DVD Combo

by eternalflame , Jan 03 '02
Pros: Space-saving combo unit for both VHS tapes and DVD
Cons: Needs tracking adjustment when playing VHS tapes recorded from another VCR
When my Panasonic VCR started to show signs of wear & tear, I decided that it was time to bring myself into the new Millennium and get a DVD player...however, I have thousands of VHS tapes which I can't just throw away....and my entertainment wall unit...

A very nice combo.

by samdavidowicz , Dec 31 '01
Pros: Typical DVD picture quality, Great VCR, nice feature set, remote, see others.
Cons: LPCM audio problems in my unit, front display, no VCR+, combo reliability risks, see others.
The time came one day when my parents' 16 year old VCR in her bedroom finally bought the farm, and they wanted a new one. At about the same time, I wanted to get a DVD player for their room. The reason for this was, even though I have a dvd player in...

Samsung's Unsung hero!

by ajuliano , Nov 30 '01
Pros: Affordable, efficient, and easy to use
Cons: If one component breaks, you're out a VCR AND a DVD player
My wife and I were slow to wade into the pool of DVD ownership, primarily because we already owned a VCR and quite a few VHS tapes. "Why buy a DVD player," we thought, "when we don't own any DVDs and we already have a precarious pile of electronics?"...

Great VHS/DVD/MP3 Combo - One less remote!

by ravnwood , Nov 13 '01
Pros: Ease of use, size, great standard features, plays MP3 CDs, one less remote.
Cons: Remote shares some of the buttons.
This is a decent player that fits the roles of both VCR and DVD player. It was perfect for me, for three main reasons:

1. I was looking for a secondary DVD player for my bedroom.
2. I needed to replace an aging 2-head VCR.
3....

Good bedroom unit

by apcarandang , Nov 09 '01
Pros: Nice Finish and attractive styling. Great Price.
Cons: VCR not S-VHS.
The Samsumg DV-1000 is an attractive unit for about $300 retail.

The Unit is easy enough to setup. My only complain is that the VCR could have been better if it were S-VHS. The unit can play S-VHS tapes but will not output through the S-video...
