Cons: Needs 6 AA batteries, can't recharge without removing.
Summary: The Cobra PR-1000 UHF /FM radios are nice if you need inter-operability with FRS, but the lack of rechargeable battery support makes them expensive to operate for longer trips or outings, where the radio is on for eight to ten hours a day.

Pros: Do not expect to get a 5 mile range as advertised when using high power.
Cons: The speaker has the best sound quality of any FRS/GMRS radio I've owned.
Summary: I've owned my PR1000 radios for over 5 years and they are still going strong, and they are still as good as new. The battery cover is very durable in spite of what a previous reviewer wrote. If anything the battery cover is a bit difficult to remove. ... read more
