I purchased this remote to control my TV and VCR since my VCR remote stopped working and I wanted one remote to control both appliances. The RCA RCU400 seemed good based on the label so I bought it.

I got this, supposedly universal, remote about a year ago, planned to use with my TV and DVD. The TV was an old RCA, but the DVD player was Lasonic (which is no brand). The remote worked well with the TV, but never with the DVD player, although I tried all types of code searches. After the old TV broke, the remote didn't work with a new JVC combo. Well, almost a year later I got a new Akai LCD TV and decided to try it with this remote. Well, although Akai is listed a supported brand, I couldn't find the right code again. I am not shy with the technology, so this remote was just bummer.. should I throw it away?
