by dkozin dkozin is a Lead on Epinions in Electronics, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10, Jun 10 '01
Pros: Large LCD, good picture and sound, features and Digital8 value, remote and looks
Cons: Only 640x480 still pictures
Modern digital camcorders divide into two categories: the ones that use MiniDV tape and Digital8 ones (Hitachi has a camcorder that uses DVD-RAM, but it’s an exception rather than the rule). The Sony DCR-TRV530 is a Digital 8™...

Sony TRV-530: GREAT BUY

by ineoeni , Jul 01 '01
Pros: Super NightVision, Large LCD, Effects, USB, i.Link
Cons: Battery Life
I recently bought the Sony TRV-530 by mail order from Berger Brothers Inc. My father paid for it, but of course, I will be the only one to use it. My friends and I are into amateur video, so this was a definite peak in our life when my dad purchased...

Digital 8 at its BEST

by scottyk924 , Jun 29 '01
Pros: Good price, quality picture, USB!!!
Cons: Not so hot Still pictures. Only comes with 4 MB Memory Stick.
This camera will not only take Digital Video on the Digital 8 tapes, but also can record still pictures like a digital still camera on memory sticks. I am very happy that Sony came out with this new camcorder that has USB connectivity. This USB transfer...

Good Compromise for those who want digital quality and 8mm

by donnyg , Aug 29 '01
Pros: digital 8 format, 3.5 inch screen, Sony quality, reasonably priced
Cons: still pictures, a bit bulky
Sony's hybrid 8mm/digital camcorder line puzzled many experts when first released a few years ago. Why would consumers want to stick with the old 8mm format when they could simply convert to pure digital? But Sony recognized a large consumer market of...

Close to prosumer quality

by ooner , Aug 16 '02
Pros: High video quality, Large LCD monitor, good size, Hi8 Tape
Cons: No white balance ability, no microphone volume control
The Sony TRV530 is a great digital camcorder for both home video and amateur filmmaking.

I am a film student and have found that in general, digital 8 cameras are much easier to use than the smaller miniDV models. The greater size and weight...

Overall a good camera

by zacojam , May 28 '02
Pros: Good Picture, Easy to use
Cons: Low battery life, digital still quality poor.
I bought this camera based on two criteria; Name and price. The camera is a great camera for video pictures. Slightly on the heavier side as compared to others in it's class. The features are enough for my use. If you are a REAL video enthusiast, then I...

TRV-530...A great little camera!

by Kinge_250 , Aug 05 '01
Pros: Ease of use, numerous features, great price.
Cons: Battery and memory card that come with it aren't long lasting.
The Sony TRV-530 was recommended to me by an acquiantance who also owns one. I was surprised by the low cost and by the fact that there were so many extra features. Personally, I like the night vision feature, as some low light conditions were used for...

Sony DCR-TRV530 Digital8 Camcorder -- Like the TRV330 with a Bigger LCD

by radioguy Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, Jun 18 '01
Pros: Digital8 format, 3.5-inch LCD screen.
Cons: Costs $100 more than identical camcorder with 2.5-inch LCD screen.
As with many consumer electronics products, buying a Sony Digital8 camcorder is a "One from Column A, One from Column B" type of decision. The camcorders in the Digital8 line are physically almost identical, all being encased in the same plastic body,...

I love this camera. My...
by lambo_dt3000 ,Feb 06 '02
I love this camera. My brother has the same one. You can be shooting video of the kids in 10 minutes. The large view screen makes it fun for you and your children to watch and record. The still photos can be taken to memory stick or tape. You get about 50 high res on the stick or 100's on the tape. Going from memory stick to your computer is a snap via USB. Unless your PC has a firewire (IEEE 1394 or Sony iLink) you will need to buy an additional card for video.
