A $170+ Mistake (updated 11/15/01)

by sprint_sucks , Nov 14 '01
Pros: It's a Sony
Cons: It's not a very good one
Note: I went to Circuit City and made them give me a second VCR. It works just like the first one... or, rather, doesn't work just like the first one.

When my Zenith VCR died after only a few years, I decided it...

A respectable Sony VCR

by psimon , Nov 22 '01
Pros: Excellent picture quality, commercial pass, VCR plus gold
Cons: No clock during playback.
Within the last few weeks, my RCA VCR which was purchased in 1987, was finally dying. It would play back pre-recorded tapes, but it had problems making and playing tapes that it made. I was using it for time shifting, and it just wasn't working well. I...

A good VCR, but with some flaws

by samdavidowicz , Jan 06 '02
Pros: Picture/Sound, "Look," menus easy to navigate, VCR+ gold, index search.
Cons: Remote filled with small buttons, Sony's reliability record, see others.
This VCR was bought a few months ago to replace our faltering GE in our living room. It was then transplanted into my room, when my 4 year old Sony got back from its professional cleaning.

Yes, I know that you can get VCRs nowadays for...

Average VCR

by chefjohnny5 , May 28 '02
Pros: Slick Looking VCR Quality of a Sony Product
Cons: Overpriced If you ask me SLOWWWWWW Rewind
I bought this to compliment my new entertainment center and gear. I had owned a cheapie Zenith before I went to buy this Sony. I bought it because I like Sony products. Some people don't but I do. I have had several Sony products that should have died a...

Hated it! Sold it on ebay

by emandbri , Oct 02 '01
Pros: VCR plus memory thing
Cons: there is no memory button, can't fast forward and rewind for a set time.
We had our Phillips Magnavox VCR for years but time wasn't on it's side! After years of taping tv shows (and every star trek episode) the VCR stopped recording.

I did TONS of research going to circuit city, sears, and specialty shops. I...

Ride the Silver Lighting

by papbear , Aug 09 '01
Pros: Great punch for the price, auto-time set, VCR+, good picture quality for a VCR
Cons: None
The price and the sleek design drew my eye to this VCR immediately while I was browsing the selection of VCR's in Best Buy. I was looking for an above-average VCR, not a cheap one. I wanted one that could deliver a good quality image. I was also drawn...

Sony ripoff!

by tomny , Jan 08 '02
Pros: none
Cons: Cable Mouse not included, costs $60!
This VCR is a classic example of bait-and-switch. Normally, when you use VCR Plus, you want the VCR to automatically switch the cable box to the proper channel, right? Otherwise, you'd have to make sure the cable box is already on the right channel....

LIVES UP TO REPUTATION

by biggistal , Jan 14 '02
Pros: Quiet, smooth, clear picture and most of all adjusts itself to older tapes with precision.
Cons: Slow on rewind. Commercial Advance needs vast improvement.
Purchased a brand new Panasonic 4621 with unbelievable features for $112. After it was set up and running I found it played decently but to my horror, it damaged tapes while recording and was extremely noisy. Of course the unit was obviously faulty and...

To play movies--great....to record--bad!
by spennestri ,Aug 03 '04
Pros: plays original videos nicely
Cons: recording quality is bad
I thought that I could rely on the Sony brand name, but unfortunately, I was very disappointed with its performance. I bought this VCR for my duplication system. However, the picture quality after recording is awful. When playing back a recording, the picture goes darker then lighter all throughout the video.
