Pros: The 60 second rewind and Sony's High Quality. Cons: None.
Summary: Let's stick with SONY- The Sony SLV-N51 VCR
After countless nights of my husband and I fighting with our children over who gets the TV with the VCR, we decided we couldn't take it anymore. It was time to get a second VCR.

Pros: Replays and rewinds are fine and it is a simple cheap unit. Cons: it is irregular in recording programs. Mostly it just won't record consistently.
Summary: I purchased a second VCR so that I could record my programs on a VCR near my computer. Unfortunatel ... read more

Pros: remote, design, rewinding speed Cons: very loud/grinds, lack of many menu/display features, picture quality
Summary: I purchased this VCR after my favorite VCR ever went dead. Don't laugh but that VCR was an RCA 4 head "Home Theater" VCR I purchased at Wal-Mart for about $199 (years and years ago!)
The VCR seems pretty good at first, but the more I used it ... read more

Pros: Fast Rewind, easy menu setup, worked good at first Cons: Stopped working after about 6 months
Summary: I bought this VCR about 6 months ago. It was reasonably priced for a Sony at $99, and it worked great at first. The rewind is fast, and the playback was good. The timer menu was a little annoying--could have been setup much simpler, but the rest of ... read more

Pros: very easy to set up, 60-second rewind, automatic clock set. Cons: no complaints so far.
Summary: This Sony VCR is perfect for those of us who are generally baffled by electronics equipment. My favorite quirky feature is that the clock sets itself by scanning through television stations to find the time. This way as long as you can manage to hook ... read more

Pros: Packed with nice features for a great price. Cons: Lack of quality control: 2 defective units in 6 months.
Summary: Our well-loved, much-used 7-year-old Panasonic VCR suffered catastrophic failure last fall, so I devoted a Saturday to finding a suitable replacement. I managed to find what I thought was a great solution -- a VCR with better features than the old one ... read more

Pros: Flash rewind, good picture quality
Cons: No LCD counter
Summary: What were you doing Thanksgiving weekend? Hopefully having more fun than I was. I found myself in the TV and appliance section of Sears with three fussy kids and a confusing array of choices for VCRs. Our old VCR had finally succumbed to repeated ... read more

Pros: Fast rewind. Easy to use. It's a Sony and it's cheap. Cons: None so far.
Summary: I had my last VCR for 12 years. So you can imagine I am not hard on things. When it broke I was thinking about repairing my old VCR. Then I found out how cheap a new one was. The only feature that I was looking for was a machine with 4 heads, for ... read more

Pros: Fast rewind, good price Cons: a bit flimsy, poor remote
Summary: I needed a cheap, second VCR. Mainly for recording shows on different channels while I am traveling. (It's a long story why the other VCR can't do that without major hassle). So I went to the store to check out the lower end models and found a Sony ... read more

Pros: Cheap. Extremely fast rewind. Sony brand. Cons: Remote control badly designed; channels blank out when surfing
Summary: Bar remote control. I hate it. The buttons are placed haphazardly, and they're too easy to press in a lot of cases. The power button is right next to the tv/vcr switch; if you use that switch (to turn off the tv) you're probably going to bump the ... read more

Pros: Rewind time is pretty fast, and the picture quality is pretty good. Cons: The construction is really cheap and flimsy.
Summary: If you're comparing a few different brands of cheap VCR's, you might want to skip on the Sony SLV-N51. I bought the unit based on Sony's brand reputation, as I have a bunch of the older Sony items which have proved themselves as bulletproof consumer ... read more
