Pros: A welcome return to the BIG novel full of outrageous characters and social satire Cons: Unfortunately, the main character is unlikable; and then Wolfe cops out on the ending
Summary: One thing’s for sure, Tom Wolfe is no shy, wilting magnolia when it comes to writing fiction that grabs the reader by the eyeballs. In both A Man in Full and his first novel Bonfire of the Vanities, Wolfe’s prose is full-bodied, muscular ... read more

Pros: Excellent, believable characters. Intro to a unique sliver of society. Cons: Like everyone says: the ending is a little too neat.
Summary: My first encounter with Tom Wolfe was The Right Stuff. I don't remember whether I saw the movie first or not. I do remember not buying the book for a long time because the cover was so dull. When I finally did I was amazed.

Pros: Not a bad men's sensitivity session.
Cons: By the end, Tom Wolfe was running on empty.
Summary: I'm a slow reader. So when I get a slow read I'm happy. Tom Wolfe's A Man in Full was a nice slow read until the end when it became lazy and implausible. I would have thought an author of palpable intelligence would be ashamed of such an obvious lapse. ... read more

Pros: Excellent imagery, compelling suspense, originality and colorful writing Cons: Slightly abrupt ending, a little too long
Summary: Granted, I have never read a Tom Wolfe book that I have not enjoyed, but A Man in Full was entertaining and well worth the time it took to read the entire book. The story involves three characters (an Atlanta real estate developer, an Atlanta ... read more

Pros: Tremendously thorough. I enjoyed it sentence by sentence Cons: Seems like Wolfe didn't know how to end the book.
Summary: When Old Atlanta meets New Atlanta, men and women squash and get squashed in the process. It's a beautiful example of social hierarchy in action. This was my first Tom Wolfe read and have since read Bonfire of the Vanities with equal enthusiasm ... read more

Pros: Great premise, excellent characters Cons: Weak, unsatisfying ending
Summary: This book,"A Man in Full", could have been, and in fact, should have been, a great one. After reading the first hundred or so pages, I was sure it would be. It had all of the necessary elements...a powerful, larger than life central character, ... read more

Pros: Hilarious! Cons: Hilarious! is sandwiched between a slow start and pat ending.
Summary: I originally bought this book back in January 1999, intending to read it right away. I had been really looking forward to something new from Tom Wolfe - 'Bonfire of the Vanities' and 'The Right Stuff' were almost my favorite books at the time I read ... read more

Pros: Good insight into Atlanta political elite scene Cons: Ending is a bit disappointing
Summary: This is the longest book I've ever read and I finished it in 6 or 7 days. Thouroughly enjoyed Wolfe's easy-to-read, fast moving, descriptive, not entirely unbiased POV. I concur with some others that the ending was a bit of a letdown, but it did wrap ... read more

Pros: excellent descriptive style, well woven satisfying story Cons: hard to get started, a bit heavy with the character's accents at times
Summary: Do I have to do it again? Write my "disclaimer" paragraph, about how I am not writing a high school book report that has enough detail so the teacher will believe I really read the book? Well, for those of you who may have missed it... to ... read more

Pros: Profound story, deft satire Cons: None
Summary: "A Man in Full" simpy stated is a great American novel. Bringing to this opus many of the same themes and concerns he addressed in "Bonfire of the Vanities", the master satirist holds a magnifying glass up to the moral morass that ... read more

Pros: Real characters and very vivid descriptions. Wolfe has done it again. Cons: The length will definitely scare some people away. The plot is complex and will be seen as too much effort for some readers. The ending is a bit contrived.
Summary: "Bonfire of the Vanities" took a long, hard deep look at the highfalutin New York crowd of the late 1980's and became on the decade's best selling and critically acclaimed books. It also spawned a truly horrid movie, but we can't blame that on ... read more

Pros: Great characterization Cons: Weak plot, especially end
Summary: "A Man in Full," Tom Wolfe's large-scale epic about the downfall of Charlie Croker, a self-absorbed self-made man, is certainly testament to Wolfe's ability to create gripping characters. Croker, as well as nearly every other character ... read more

Pros: In Depth and Abstruse Cons: Not a can't put the book down
Summary: Perhaps the secret of a great writer is one who goes to the bone of human existence and squeezes, squishes, and mulls it over. Such is the case of Mr. Wolfe's A Man In Full.
As Atlanta, out of the ashes struggles for identity, the Wolfe ... read more

Pros: Had Me Wired To Read It Cons: Me Balloon Was Deflated Afterwards

Pros: Phenomenal Writing AND Storytelling Cons: Goofy Dialect Descriptions
Summary: Tom Wolfe wrote one of the great non-fiction books of our generation ("The Right Stuff") so it seems a lot to ask him to be a great novelist as well. Thankfully, somebody asked and he delivered. "A Man In Full" is a fantastic book ... read more

Pros: STORY Cons: very long
Summary: This book is the best book I've ever read. Now that might not be saying much coming from a senior in high school. But come on, it was 750 pages. I was hooked for each and everyone of them. It is truly a great look into the lives of men in the 1990s. ... read more

Pros: A glimpse of the American male Cons: The American male seemed never to have met a self-realized female counterpart

Pros: Tom Wolfe, look smart reading in public Cons: bad, bad, just bad

Pros: Where do i start? Cons: It ends...really, there are a few minor things I would change.
