Pros: Stirs up the necessary religiousity pot for valuable discourse. Cons: Leaves too many "how" questions--but more books are available to fill in the gap.
Dear friends of mine made life-changes after reading this and other McLaren books, so I had to give it a go myself. It took little time to get from front to back cover, as the writing is smooth and the dialogue is very natural. Here's the concept--a ...
Pros: explores interesting topics Cons: religious words may be hard to understand
I had to read this book for my ministry class. I thought it had a lot of good points that would inspire real thinking and searching for a real relationship with Christ. There are a lot of things that one could reflect on and improve their life with. But there were some things in there that I thought were false. I don't think that the whole modernity, postmodernity is the big issue. I could get into my opinions, but that is another essay. LOL. Basically the book was interesting, and had good points, but I would read it with caution.
Pros: Good story, helpful, not too preachy Cons: assumes that the post modern view is the better view
I first read about this book in a newsletter from Christ for the Nations, and it sounded interesting so I ordered it from Amazon. It took me about a week to read through it at work. While I can't say that I'm jumping on the whole Post-Modern church thing, I can say that this book put to words many of the feelings I have been having over the past couple of years. If you have grown tired of church, and Christianity in general and can't figure out why, than this book is a good place to start. Very well written it held my interest all the way to the end. I even think I will pick up the next book by Brian Mclaren.
