Pros: Easy set-up, print server. Cons: Randomly changes status to "DISCONNECTED" and stops routing.
I've been using the SMC Barricade since April, and have yet to go more than three days without having to perform a hard reset on the router in order to get traffic moving again.
Buying the router was easy. I picked the box off the shelf, and...
Pros: 1) Solid range, performance
2) Printer port included
3) Interface compatible with all systems Cons: 1) LED indicators hard to see
2) External antennae not supported
3) Slow WEP encryption
UPDATE: It is now 2004 and the router is still alive and kicking after over two years or so. Extra points for durability! I was exploring options for setting up a wireless home network and stumbled onto the SMC Barricade by chance (a local ad). After ...
Pros: Cheap! IPSEC pass-through works great; works well with Macs Cons: Randomly (but consistently) loses its WAN connection every 2-3 days
After my company lent me a wireless card (Orinoco Gold) to connect to the corporate network, I decided that it was finally time to take the plunge at home.
I'm pretty cheap when it comes to home computing, so I was really looking for the...
Pros: Wireless, print server, rebates :), both wireless & wired at the same time. Cons: print server, install instructions, weird rounded top of case.
This router is pretty easy to install. I was upgrading my current router (not wireless) with this one. This was for a home network of 3 PC's running Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows 98. Internet was accessed thru Cox@Home service.
Pros: good price, good features, easy to use Cons: drops connection until firmware update
I bought the SMC Barricade 7004AWBR in June 2002. For a long time it was great, no problems at all. I am using the SMC PC Card for my laptop and get great coverage everywhere in my house (2 BR 1-story) and out in the back yard as well. I chose 802.11 B...
Pros: Functional Product with Print Server included. Cons: Annoying Tech Support Experiences
I've had this product for over a year. It has proven stable and functional once it is set up. I have from two to four computers connected, one wireless and the rest are wired. It is connected to a Samsung printer. As another reviewer stated, it would...
Pros: 7004AWBR was easy to install and worked right out of the box. Cons: Customer service was horrible.
The wireless network worked great, right out of the box. I have no networking experience, so I was nervous. All I did was plug it in and get my wireless card (Cisco Card) to work and it was up and running.
Pros: Very easy to install; printer port. Cons: Every few days slows down the Internet connection and needs to be reset.
It's a good choice for an average home user. I've set it up in under 5 minutes. From time to time it needs to be reset and this can be done through the software.
Built-in firewall works great! Simple, step-by-step setup allows to make it work...
Pros: Easy set up, a lot of options for the price. Cons: Range is not that great.
I purchase this about half a year ago. It was set up in a matter of minutes. I have not have any serious problems with it yet. But from time to time, I would have to reset it. Maybe it is my card and not the router. I have the smc card as well, so I...
Pros: Great 24/7 customer support, when they finally get on the phone. Great website support. Cons: No antenna choices. No one else has them either for under two hundred bucks
This router was recently rated one of two best buys by PC Magazine. NAT with stateful packet inspection. Printer port. Wireless LAN at home. What more could you want. I have Earthlink DSL and they are less than helpful with your lan if you do not...
Pros: Great firewall/router with good security features Cons: wireless speed may disappoint, but comparable to other units
I've been using this router for 18+ months, with no problems. I've seen some online reviews talking about loss of network connection problems, in my experience these have nothing to do with the router and everything to do with badly behaved Windows boxes on the lan. Sometimes switching a NIC will fix that particular problem.
