The Truth behind The Headphones

by charlesduma , Mar 16 '04
Pros: Sturdy and durable
Cons: You'll lose your soul after 20 minutes of use.
I purchased my pair a year ago for about $60. I was eager to put them into use. I must reveal you the truth as I have come to know it. This is an account of the Advent AW770 wireless headphones: After charging the battery over night I was ready to try ...

OK for wireless

by reprosser , May 21 '02
Pros: NO wire clutter or snags
Cons: Difficult to keep tuned
I move around constantly in my cube/test area between 4-5 different PCs. Headphone wires constantly got rolled over, snagged, etc.

This headset is wireless, so it makes a big difference in convenience, but is hard to keep tuned. The tuning...

Good set of phones

by aeubank , Mar 15 '02
Pros: Great range. Reasonable clarity. Comfortable. Good battery life. Offers convenient recharging setup.
Cons: Has to compete with all the other devices on the 900 Mhz band.
Purchased the headphones from Ubid November 2001. During the time I have not used them much, but everytime I use them they work great!

When purchasing these headphones I was a little leary about purchasing a set of wireless headphones....

The never ending search......
by darthvagrant ,May 17 '04
Pros: Best range, very comfortable(after stretched over a box to loosen fit), value leader
Cons: Analog-although the best analog IMHO, still not FULL fidelity. Necessary to twiddle with frequency settings.
I've owned a set of Amphony 2.4GHz digital headphones for quite some time. The fidelity is SUPERB, the range short, unusable when my PC wireless or microwave is in use. Fast forward to my *new* Advent analog headphones: Superb range, mediocre fidelity, and only sensitive to a 900MHz digital 'phone. The Advent phones, after personally testing several other brands, were clearly the best sounding 900Mz ANALOG headphones. The Advent are the only analog headphones I could find that went to 20kHz. The Amphonys go beyond hearing range. I will give the Advents a conditional "thumbs up". They seem to be the best combination of range and fidelity. **However** The only really GOOD fidelity comes from the Amphony digital 'phones, but Amphony's USA PUNY 1Mw output = no range. Since the Advent headphones have plummeted in price, I'd describe them as a 'good buy'. Others have described tuning problems and noise, after a BRIEF 'fiddling' with them they settled right in for me.
Synopsis:
.
FIDELITY-Amphony at about $100.00 (Or $230. for the new model 2500 5.8GHz IF they EVER become available),but short range
.
RANGE & VALUE-Advent Very acceptable frequency response, good range, the most 'bang for your buck'.

Keep Looking
by rovers649 ,Jul 04 '05
Pros: Wireless
Cons: Very poor sound quality.
Very poor sound quality. I used these with my Onkyo Surround Sound System, and the sound was just plain flat. Didn't even sound like stereo at all. Very disappointed in these Headphones.

Great sound!
by nanuq ,Oct 31 '03
Pros: Very good sound, open and airy, punchy, not overly bright.
Cons: They wander off-tune easier than the AW720s I also have. But they're easy to adjust.
I bought these because I have some AW720s at work and I love the sound, and wanted some nice phones for at-home use.

I originally bought AR791s for at-home and was very disappointed in their overly bright tone... they were grating even with the high end turned all the way down on my preamp. So I gave them away and bought these online... and realized (too late) they're made by Recoton too! Then I realized they look a lot like the AR791s and I was bummed, thinking I'd have just another incarnation of the same thing.

When they arrived I hooked them up, and the sound is what I was looking for. They're clear and zingy but not overly so. The bass is strong and punchy, and they're very comfortable.

Bottom line: even though they LOOK like the AR791s and are made by Recoton... they're two different animals. Give 'em a try! You'll like them.
