Pros: Excellent sound quality, high volume, good value, nicely styled Cons: No controls on the sub, plenty of wires to hide
Today I purchased new computer speakers to replace my Altec Lansing VS2121 Computer Speakers. I was very sad that these speakers didn't last longer, but they performed well for the duration of their short lives. Why I Purchased The Altec ...
After having them for a year they have developed a crackle when adjusting the volume. They hum with only power on or at low volume which has certainly become worse with age. Granted they were not expensive, but the quality, or lack there of, is still inexcusable. Don't waste your money, save up and purchase something better.
Average, Hissed when plugged in and not turned on. by jfw138 ,Dec 06 '05
Pros: Small footprint ideal for the space consious
Average sound quality. Cons: Flimsy power switch, No Bass adjustment for subwoofer
Crackles Hisses constantly
Bought for 19.99, after rebate. Brought home and set up. Music sounds decent on these speakers. Lacks bass control on the subwoofer which would be a nice feature. Flimsy power switch, came off when turning on. Constant hissing when not turned on erratic popping/crackling every time and electric device turns on, such as fridge, tv, cell phone call. I called Altec Lansing and was told that the noises were normal due to the way the satelites were manufactured. Took back to store and got some Creative T-3000's. The T-3000's blew the Altec Lansing VS2121 out of the sky. No more annoying hissing. Would not buy from Altec Lansing again, products overpriced and poor quality.
Pros: Good sound for the first 6 months Cons: No way of fixing a loose or dirty connection. one year life. no base control
i've had these speakers for over a year now. in the beginning i loved them. they worked good with the music i played for my room and weren't overpowerful. the only problem, my dad being a ham radio wiz would always come through the speakers. Also when unplugging the speakers a loud "boom" from the sub would fill the room. About 6 months into owning these speakers i noticed while adj. the volume i began to hear crackling noises and the speakers would go in and out. After little over a year, they died. No power enters through the speakers and with the power entering the sub and that being sealed there is no way to fix a loose wire. Although these speakers were only 50 bucks at circut city i would rather have the 50 dollars towards a bowes or sony speakers rather then in Altec's hands. If your "iffy" about these speakers, i suggest don't buy them.
Pros: great sound, great bass Cons: no y connector included, no bass control
I bought these speakers over a year and a half ago. They costs 50 bucks. Its a nice little speaker set up. the sound is great. The sub is powerful for moderate users I believe is just about right for the home computer. it can also connect to your video game system but it lacks the Y connectors. you need to buy that separately. I have seen that in the more expensive altec lansing speakers comes with the y connector included with the speakers. it would have been nice to have a Bass control to set the bass at the right tempo you prefer. its slick black and gray color matches well with most of the Colors that PC are now.
