Nice and small but lack volume & clarity by so_hum ,Oct 16 '06
Pros: Small size, fit in my purse, cute design. Cons: Distortion at high volumes, lack of overall volume at a pretty short distance.
First of all, let me say that I don't have an Ipod--I bought these used to use with my motola itunes phone, as well as a CD Discman and a tape player--so the whole thing would be more portable than a typical boombox. So, I can't vouch for how they work with an Ipod.
I love that they're small and put out nice clear sound for the tape player and have decent volume in that regard as well.
However, they don't have much volume with my "phone pod" (it's the motorola SLVR L7) and they distort at higher volumes. They also seem to lose volume very quickly when I go about 10 feet away from them in a room--so they are no replacement for a home system.
I would rate them about a 5 or 6 on a scale of 1 to 10. I'm considering taking them back and getting the JBL round donut kind (the onstage) if I decide I can live without the added portability of the batteries (the jbl onstage is plugin-only.)
