Pros: Romantic, elegant decor & good food Cons: Somewhat expensive
Ana Mandara translates to "beautiful refuge" in Vietnamese, which aptly describes the colonial Vietnamese décor at this restaurant. The huge space is highlighted by white walls with lots of teak wood, huge arched windows with shutters, rattan chairs, ...

Pros: Breathtaking, must-see interior Cons: Overpriced food, rookie service
If you’ve ever eaten at an authentic Vietnamese restaurant, whether it be to savor pho (a steaming bowl of noodle soup, mostly served with thin slices of meat, with do-it-yourself garnishes of bean sprouts, basil, and lime), cha gio...

Pros: Food, Ambiance & Service Cons: Dessert, portion sizes
Having recently moved from my home state of New York, I am always on the lookout for wonderful restaurants to try on this coast. I was very pleasantly surprised to find not only a wonderful restaurant but an exceptional one in Ana Mandara.
I...

Pros: Decor Cons: Can get expensive
Asian fetish is hot right now in the fashion community. In accordance, Ana Mandara offers the perfect place to soak up Asian culture, at least in the American sense. As soon as I walked into the restaurant, I felt the strong and delightful ambiance. You...

Pros: Authentic food and romantic atmosphere Cons: Moderately expensive
Ana Mandara is one of the most beautiful and romantic restaurants in San Francisco. When entering the main room, with it's high ceiling and arching central staircase, one gets the feeling of being in Vietnam.
The food is also extraordinary....

Pros: Great food. Great Service. Cons: Very expensive.
The food was awesome. I am an unusually picky eater. They served all the above as far as vegetarian to steaks. The food was flavorful, without going overboard. Just the right mixture of spices and marinate. I had the Sirloin Tips. The appetizers too,...

Never have been so insulted at a restaurant!!!
by johngill ,May 02 '05
Pros: None Cons: Service, management, food...
My girlfriend and I went to Ana Mandara for dinner. When I went to restroom the waiter ask my girlfriend why she was with a guy like me"! The worst thing was that my GF didn't tell me until we were gone and I tipped this jerk 20%! He is lucky that I did not get him fired. I did talk to the manger and he basically said tough, nice management. I will NEVER Recommend this place to any of my friends or Corporate clients, and for that matter I will go out of my way to suggest against it! I highly suggest NOT going to this sub-pair restaurant. San Francisco has too many great restaurant to give this one any time or money for terrible service and "OK" food.

Not worth the price

Pros: Nice decor Cons: Bland food; inattentive service; dismal pacing;
Bland food, inattentive service, and dismal pacing. I like a leisurely dinner, but 2 3/4 hours, with up to 20 minutes after the plates for one course were cleared before the next arrived!?! Please!
When we got anxious about making our theater performance, the "dining room manager" attempted to make the entire situation our fault for not having told our waiter, when we arrived at 5:30, that we had an 8:00 curtain. When we pointed out that 2 large parties that had arrived after us had already finished their meals, he did comp our wine, though it seemed like a very reluctant gesture.

Pretty nice place
by picmans ,May 19 '07
Pros: Great food and cool rooms Cons: Be careful with the rates, haggle to get a good deal.
Very nice hotel with the most amazing breakfast buffet. Only downer was that we wanted to stay an extra day and they wanted to charge us full rack rate which was 3 times what we were paying.
Spa was great but DONT swim in the sea, it is very polluted. we went for a swim to be greeted by condoms floating in the water - but what do you expect, it is the South China Sea!
I would go back to this resort, but only at the right rate, there full rates are off the planet.
It is quite close to downtown area and they have free bikes to make a pleasant ride.
Airport pick up was the best I have ever had, made me felt VERY spoilt.
