Crisp As A Fresh-Picked Apple

by Dr_Steph, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Sep 06 '00
Pros: Crisp picture, vibrant colors, tripod stand provides storage space underneath monitor
Cons: Mine doesn't match the color of my computer (big deal)
Shoulda, coulda, woulda....

That's what I keep telling myself when I think about my ill-fated decision to NOT purchase the Apple Studio Display 17 inch when I bought my blue and white Power Mac G3 in the winter of 1999.

by jedo1507r , Jun 18 '05

Cons: ADC connector
Up-tier price (in 2001)

Features: 17" Mitsubishi Diamondtron (aperture grille) flat surface tube Seamless integration with an ADC-equipped Macintosh 2 USB (Philips chipset) ports Attractive design I purchased this monitor with a demo model PowerMac G4 Cube; however, ...

Nearly a Work of Art

by mboszko , Jul 30 '02
Pros: Easy set up, handy config and system power buttons, USB ports; sharp, accurate digital color.
Cons: Not real easy on the checkbook (but worth every penny).
As a video editor and effects artist, when my last tube monitor finally bit the dust, I really wanted to replace it with a flat panel display. Sure, tubes have come way down in price, but I had spent enough time in front of a Hugh Jass flickering tube....

Flicker, flicker little monitor - Apple Studio Display 17"

by eyestar , Jan 05 '00
Pros: stylish, crisp and clear display, matches your Apple computer
Cons: lines in monitor, flickering problem
We purchased the 17" Apple Studio Display with our G3. I'm a sucker for things that look nice and I wanted it to match, so we paid a little more and purchased it.

Taking it out of the box I was amazed. It looked huge, like a gigantic...

Beautiful Bohemoth

by DJC750 , Jul 07 '00
Pros: High-Picture Quality, Great Price, Sleek
Cons: Very Unwieldy
When I originally purchased this monitor, I was expecting something big. That is exactly what I got when I opened the box. Now while not as large as the 21" monitor that apple is now selling, this 17" monitor is really quite large.

OOOOhhhh Shiny!

by RenegadeCJS , Nov 12 '00
Pros: Amazing, Easy, And a 2 port USB hub.
Cons: May not be reverse compatible with old style moniter connections on graphics cards.
I bought this moniter with my brand spankin new PPC G4 dual-500. I do movie editing, and I wanted a real workhorse. This moniter was reccomended by the company I purchased the computer from. I didn't really think much of it, it was the viewing portal...

No, it's not an iMac...

by ns_williams , Sep 18 '99
Pros: Inexpensive, bright, very flexible to position
Cons: Awkward on screen adjustment menus
Is that an iMac? That's the question I hear the most when new folks walk into my office. I point across the room to the little iMacs behind me - this thing looks like a behemoth in comparison.

It would be great if iMacs sat up on the nifty...

I've had two of these blow up.

by ecrase2500 , Apr 09 '02
Pros: Nice image - at first.
Cons: Huge footprint, lousy reliability, awkward adjustment buttons
This is in reference to the earlier generation of blue or graphite displays. I've not tried the clear one yet.

These monitors are pretty, but don't last. I'm on my third or fourth, now - I've lost track. The IS departments at two different...

studio stud

by pagna54 , Mar 15 '03
Pros: outstanding definition and color, one plug does all, touch panel buttons
Cons: pricey and a bit unwieldy to move around, need a dvi connection on cpu
Did a lot of research on the flat panels and although there are cheaper models, what sold me on the apple is the one plug and the screen definition. What I've found is that even if a mfg states that the max resolution is 1280x1024 you have to look...

This Apple can leave a sour taste in your mouth

by orville , Dec 11 '00
Pros: Good looks, matches computer
Cons: Reliability
We purchased about 35 of these monitors for use in two computer labs. These were purchased with matching computers.

It was interesting to see the look of amazement on the faces of students and faculty alike when they saw these machines. Even...

Display THIS!!!

by gohan0010 , Mar 29 '01
Pros: Crisp, clear picture, unique style, and affordable
Cons: you have to have a G4, but who shouldn't?
When I saw this monitor, I knew I had to have it. This is the greatest monitor I have ever seen or used. The Diamondtron Technology is better than Sony's Trinitron. And I have seen those go for more than $500.00. The controls are great as well, with a...

Wonderful picture, and design

by dean0088 , Feb 24 '00
Pros: Great picture, matches the computer
Cons: Expensive
I like the studio display, I guess the main reason I bought it was because it matched my G3, for the price I paid I could have picked up a 19" View sonic, but I chose to stay with Apple. The picture quality is excellent and the colors are bold and...

Pure Eye Candy

by bahzell , Oct 25 '99
Pros: elegent and useful design
Cons: slightly large boarder area around screen
Eye Candy. Not only can it display eye candy, but it IS eye candy. Quite simply, these monitors are beautiful to look at. And the ones that ship with the PowerMac G4 share the graphite color scheme.

The tripod base/stand is really great,...

They are Flat and Distorted!

by franzig , Feb 15 '00
Pros: Looks sexy on my desk, almost as sexy as my secretary!
Cons: d I s t o R tion
Yes, it does look sexy. It looked so good that I bought it at a premium price, and I don't even own an Apple PC! Besides showing off LCD-like colours, the picture is also surprisingly crisp and clear - for a CRT. So if you're too poor to buy that LCD,...

The most beautiful display ever!

by channer , Oct 15 '01
Pros: Flat Screen, One connector for power, video, and USB (ADC), Stunning Looks!
Cons: Only works with new PowerMac G4's
NOTE: this review is on the newer 17" CRT with ADC connector, not the one in the picture that is no longer available.

To put it quite simply, the 17" Apple Studio Display CRT is easy on the eyes. It features a completely flat Mitsubishi...
