Horrible Dining Experience
by janemoraga ,Oct 04 '06
Pros: None. Cons: Loud, rushed, expensive and the food was not worth the money at all.
We went there for my husband's birthday and were stuck in this tiny table between two other tables. No privacy whatsoever. It was so loud that we couldn't even talk to each other! We ordered the 7 course meal with wine pairing and were rushed through it. They kept trying to clear the table for the next round. We finally told them to slow down! The food was just not that spectacular. As a matter of fact, it was rather ho hum. We knew it was going to be pricey, but $400 for two? Do not go there if you are looking for a relaxing, romantic evening.

Bad ambiance terrible food(mostly) cramped space=NOT VERY GOOD
by runtru1 ,Sep 15 '06
Pros: Appetizers, wine, dessert: These wrapped around a terrible entree. The chef's precourse was average. Cons: This place just doesn't scream four stars, it just screams. The lobster was horrendous.
I took my girlfriend here for her 25th birthday and let me tell you, it was not what I was expecting. The ambiance was bad, loud, and cramped. The chef's precourse was fairly good as the tuna croquette was tasty. We each had wonderful appetizers--my grilled scallops were excellent. Unfortunately then came the main course. We both had the lobster and let me tell you I almost puked (not joking). The cilantro sauce was fine, but the lobster itself smelled rotten and pungent. It tasted bitter and sour. I know what lobster is supposed to taste like and whatever that was, it wasn't good. I could barely eat the rest of my meal although the dessert cleared my palette well. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. If you want something better try Farallon or Scoma's.

Disappointing quality for the money.
by radio3344 ,Sep 22 '03
Pros: Service, ambience, being able to say you ate at Aqua.
Your wallet will lighter Cons: Disappointing quality for the money, small portions, expensive wine list,
I was sadly disappointed with this restaurant. The food was interesting, though in very small portions, almost not enough to get a full taste. It was almost like just having a splash of wine in your glass....enough to get a glimpse, but not the full picture. The service was first class and the atmosphere was chic and hip. The chef's tasting menu is definitely the thing to get. The wine pairing was not rated highly by the members of our group who opted for it.
If you have been to other fine dining restaurants like Alan Wong's in Hawaii, you will be sorely disappointed. For 2 people, we spent 400 bucks, which included 2 bottles of wine at 57 dollars a piece. At Alan Wong's, we had a complete dinner with appetizers and desserts, along with a 100 dollar bottle of Turley for 237. We were much happier with Wong's. We have been somewhat disappointed in general with the San Francisco dining scene. The posh restuarants seem more about appearance than quality, I would have expected that in LA, not Frisco.
