Pros: Wonderful Cast. Good story. Cons: Some things not the most realistic.
Freddie Highmore is a very talented young actor and he has the potential for a long, successful career. Hopefully he will be able to make the transition to adult roles successfully once he is older. I loved him in ...

Pros: great music, nice cinematography Cons: dialog? what dialog? so-so acting
August Rush, a romantic movie with a clear love of music has gotten rather polarized responses from audiences- often running head to head with viewers who belittled the movie for being trite and others who love it dearly for all the musical appreciation ...

Pros: Concept in general, tone, pacing, acting Cons: While some of the music is good, it is mostly incomplete
It is rare for this reviewer to watch a film I know will probably drown me in sap, but mood calls for it from time to time. < p> I also a sucker for music, so put them together and when the taste for sap occurs and there is such a film, I rsquo;ll ...

Pros: Highmore, wonderful way it lets us hear the world August does Cons: might seem too far-fetched to some
Is it mere coincidence that August Rush, the musical fairy tale directed by Kirsten Sheridan, stars two actors who have previously played unconventional versions of Peter Pan? Maybe. But the echoes seem to be there, with Robin Williams playing ...

Pros: Some decent music, conceptually interesting, good dialogue, enjoyable. Cons: Sluggish, weak characters, sappy sweet, unbelievable.
I had serious problems when watching August Rush. The underlying story was hard enough to accept...talk about amazing coincidences stacking up. But that was the general concept behind the film...something like the stars lining ...

Pros: Photogenic actors, wacky Robin Williams and a great soundtrack Cons: Too perfect characters, predictable story, required no imagination
I watched this movie partly against my will, but sat through it with my husband mostly to see how it would end and also to hear more of the compositions in the soundtrack. The movie didn't exactly disappoint since I already had pretty low expectations ...

Pros: A modern fairy tale which will resonate with you if music is something you love. Cons: It may be seen as a bit vague and certainly, to some, unreal and unappealing.
August Rush is a film for those people who love music. And when I say love music, I mean REALLY love music. This, in fact, may be the best movie ever made about the love of music. As a story, it is really a kind of modern fairy-tale. That ...

Pros: Music, acting, writing, passion Cons: Requires a great deal of disbelief suspension
"August Rush" is the story of a boy with an incredible gift (Freddie Highmore) using that gift to seek out his parents. By default, it is their story, too. In the spring of 1995, Lyla Novacek (Keri Russell) and Louis Connelly (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) are ...

Pros: Great feel-good movie, good pacing to help you forget about the world around you. Cons: The first-half is a bit slow/clunky in pacing, but give it a chance.
Of course there is music in this movie, and not magic in the traditional sense of sorcery and spells. But the magic comes with how you feel after this movie. Granted, if you don't take it too seriously (it's a movie after all), and if you let the ...

Encore! This is one of the best movies to come out of Hollywood.
by arizonaames269 ,Mar 16 '09
Pros: What would happen if Mozart wanted to perform a symphony as a child? Cons: I wish that the Rahpsody were longer and more diverse.
This is truly one of the best films to come out of Hollywood in many a year. One must have the imagination, heart, and soul of a child awakening to the world around him, or her, without fear of reprisals. It tells the story of a gifted child that stood up to the world around him to hold on to his basic beliefs that the world would be OK and that he had something to offer. Yes, the music is all around us and only some of us will listen.......

Highmore is Excellent
by sexygmom ,Mar 19 '08
Pros: A movie the family can watch and enjoy together. Cons: I found no cons in this movie.
August Rush was a very entertaining movie. It takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride along with the talented young actor Freddie Highmore.
This movie moved you as the journey of an orphaned prodigy (Highmore) searches for his parents and for the first time encounters the ups and downs of the real world outside of the orphanage.
The scores in this movie are just as moving and beautiful as the movie itself. This is a must see family movie.

How do you do that? The Guitar Thing
by cwthomas3 ,Jul 09 '08
Pros: Great cast, great plot, great soundtrack, great realism, great philosophy Cons: No cons
I found this to be an awesome movie. My seven year old son watched it at least a dozen times. Freddie's character was perfect. Terence Howard provided a continuity thread. Keri Russell very convincing too. Freddie's "guardian angel" the little girl who was his champion has an exquisite voice and caused me to get the August Rush Soundtrack. Even Robin Williams' dark side was a nice contribution.
