Pros: This machine grinds coffee to perfection without a mess. Cons: It costs more than a whirlybird grinder but you get what you pay for..
As far as grinders go, this one is a beauty. The Solis Maestro is quiet and easy to load. It does not send coffee all over the counter like many cheaper machines. The coffee goes straight down into a plastic container that pulls out. You can also grind...
Pros: Good value, consistent grind, quiet, easy cleanup Cons: Pricey compared to mass-market grinders;otherwise, none
The Solis Maestro is the third burr grinder that I've owned, and it may be the last. My low-end Krups espresso machine (please see review on this site) is fussy about the grind that I feed it, thus the quest for a reasonably priced grinder that is ...
This is an incredible machine. I have used several different grinders during the past 18 years. My first was a blade grinder from Krups that still works but blade grinders are crude processing machines and the temperatures MIGHT damage some coffee flavor...
Pros: Good, uniform grind; short clean path; great value. Cons: Noisy, slow at the finer settings, not really suitable for espresso.
The Solis / Baratza Maestro grinder has gone through several variations with no name change. In the latest incarnation, Baratza has increased the number of adjustment steps to 40, replaced the original motor with a more powerful DC motor, and ...
Pros: Style, quietness, capacity, grind quality, grounds don't fly everywhere. Cons: Beans get stuck, dial snapped off, machine no longer shuts off automatically!!
I bought the Solis Maestro grinder about three months ago, and it has been something of a disappointment thus far. It was bought based on looks (and Epinions reviews) for grinding espresso, to replace an older basic Braun burr grinder. First, the ...
Pros: Relatively quiet Cons: Intermittently, doesn't feed beans to grind so doesn't produces variable amounts of ground coffee.
I read the reviews, I bought the device. I smiled at its relative *quietness (with respect to my old grinder). Unfortunately, the love affair ended when I realized that it would sporadically not grind. The mechanical parts are obviously whirring but ...
Pros: Good quality grind, quiet, easy to operate Cons: Less plastic would be nice
This grinder is far superior to the poorly designed Black and Decker burr grinder that it replaced. It should be better since it costs about $100 more. But it is well worth the difference. The B&D was essentially useless for espresso as it would not...
This grinder lives up to it's reputation of being quiet and giving a good grind from coarse to fine. Unfortunately this grinder only works with light and medium roasts. It does not work with oily beans. As any espresso drinker knows the oiler the better....
My first and only grinder was the DeLongi coffee mill. It almost got me out of the coffee griding business especially since the reviews all proclaimed it as being just wonderful. Just received the Maestro today and the first pot of coffee and first...
Pros: Efficient
Easy to use
Priced right
Grinds for Espresso or Drip Brew
Cons: Noisey
Solis Maestro Conical Burr Grinder I have made the progression from a "whirly" grinder, to a German burr hand grinder, to the conical burr Solis Maestro. I also have tested the Black and Decker Burr Mill, and the GE Burr Mill 169132. While the ...
Great all purpose grinder by deckpilot ,Aug 13 '04
Pros: Quiet (relatively), low static (relatively), very consistent grind, features of some more expensive grinders. Cons: All plastic, requires frequent cleaning.
This is a great grinder, especially for the money. Though there is the issue with static on the ground coffee, it isn't nearly as bad as on some burr grinders I've seen. This is one of the only grinders with gear reduction and slow burrs in this price range. Superb consistent grind, with range from press to Turkish. Not a fan of plastic, and this grinder is from head to toe, but so are most all of them. The only downfall of it I have found so far is that the manual states if beans are in the hopper, which is almost always the case for me, then the motor must be running to change the grind setting. This can be a pain when I have been making espresso but now want a coarse grind for my press. I have to turn it on then turn the hopper all the way through its range, and get a mixture of all textures, which is worthless for the coffee press, so its a little wasted. No big deal, and it is my only complaint.
Just a lightweight grinder by derailius ,Oct 06 '06
Pros: Timer. Variations of grind Cons: Cheaply constructed.
We have had this grinder a little over 2 years. We grind about 2 lbs of coffee a week. In 2 years time, many of the screws inside the unit have backed out or are loose. The unit, when there is a little coffee build up bogs down when grinding fine/espresso texture. It requires cleaning of the unit. The worst thing about this grinder is the grind selection scale. If you go too far to the right, just slightly off scale, you have got to take it apart to get it to work again. It can be a real pain. This is a OK unit geared for lightweight coffee drinkers. It just could not keep up with our demand of use. We now have a Rocky by Rancillio.
Pros: Relatively inexpensive for a burr grinder and has lasted over three years Cons: May not be best for extreme fine/coarse grinds
I've had this grinder for over three years now and have yet to have a problem. Can't relate to some of the other complaints listed below (very difficult to remove hopper?). I grind fresh coffee, (preferably Peet's) every day for drip and clean it occasionally. For the money, this has been a great grinder.
I've had mine just under a year. At about 6 months the motor turned off intermittently. Shaking or banging worked for a bit, but less and less so, in spite of frequent cleaning which seemed to do no good. It finally quit altogether. Seems like the machine ought to be better than this, considering the price.
Solis Maestro Plus purchased at Comfort House by winemaven3 ,Jun 28 '05
Pros: Quiet, heavy machine. Grinds well. Cons: The mechanism to change grinds seems a bit flimsy.
I purchased the product from Comfort House. A nightmare. Do not buy from them. They sent me a defective model. I plugged it in and nothing worked. I did ask for an exchange and the second one works well. Unfortunately, Comfort House is CHARGING me additionally for shipping back their defective merchandise!!! I will never buy there again!!
The Maestro Plus is a sound machine when it works...a little dust from the beans, but not terribly so.
