Pros: Lots of volt amps for the price, lots of outlets, outlet spacing, software.
Cons: I haven't found any yet.

This is just the UPS I was looking for. While it's not the cheapest UPS you can buy, it's also not going to melt or burn your house down either (see the product recalls on the APC website for that scary story).

I have been real pleased with this UPS. I bought it for my DISH PVR 501, not my PC. The dish PVR 501 is essentially a Satellite Receiver that can record programs to a 40gig or bigger HD. I did hook it up to my PC and play with the software and USB...

After several electrical "incidents" where stuff was damaged even through a high-quality surge suppressor, I bought this UPS. I was more interested in having a controlled shutdown than in powering my computer during an outage.

Things that are plugged into it: Computer with 400-watt power supply, 17" monitor, DSL modem, and Router.

The monitoring software works perfectly. When the power goes off, the system waits for a predetermined time before starting a system shutdown.

Mine runs for about 4 minutes with all the stuff above plugged in. This is plenty of time for an automatic shutdown.

Pros: Inexpensive
Cons: Heavy unit, must pay replacement shipping costs, outlets too close together

I brought three of the Belkin UPS'S as of today and all three have gone bad. The first went bad about a year after I brought it. Although some of the outlets still work, the power down to protect equipment feature does not.
