It works for us but be careful by duraflex ,Jun 16 '06
Pros: Sits up high over back wheel, avoids feet in spokes Cons: Had to adapt mount to bike under seat with extra parts
These child carrier bike seats are hard to find and take a while to install.
I looked at 6 different brands. We bought a Schwinn and the Bell Cocoon. Although the Schwinn was more comfortable looking and perhaps better built, it would not mount on either of our bikes due to shift and brake cable placement. On the Bell, I had to adapt the mount with some additional parts that I crafted from the hardware store.
The Cocoon sits up a little high over the back wheel which helps keep little feet out of rear spokes. The Schwinn mounts lower (better center of gravity) but no spoke guards are provided.
CAUTION: With the seat and child on the back, the BALANCE of the bike is drastically altered.
For safety sake, to get the feel of of it, I practiced riding, turning up and down driveway ramps with a 40 pound bag of topsoil in the child carrier before I put our child in the next day.
