Pros: Virtually invisible to fish with its refractive qualities. Provides faster hook sets. Cons: Tough to use on baitcasting equipment. Hard to see in the water.
In the bass fishing circle sometimes even the best fishermen are prone to the nasty backlash on their bait-casting reels called a "rats-nest". The rats-nest occurs when the line comes off the reel faster than the lure is traveling through the ...
Pros: invisible, low stretch, low price Cons: weak line, not found to be abrasion resistant
I have used other Berkley lines with good success, but Berkley Vanish greatly disappointed me on a smallmouth trip to Lake Erie. I bought this line to use on an 8 day trip to Lake Erie. I bought it because of the Berkley reputation and fair price. After ...
Not Good. To many Fish lost! by nathanandkara ,Apr 02 '07
Pros: Umm lets see..... they can't see it, But if it breaks who cares! Cons: Line is not tough enough. will cause a good feeling become a very bad feeling!
I thought I would give Vanish a try this year Steelhead fishing and I will give you my results. 7 fish have broke off. This line is not tough enough for Steelhead fishing. If you get a fish on with this stuff, you odds of landing one is very slim. Their sharp Teeth are to much for th Vanish line and I will not go back. Talk about expensive fishing trips. I lost about 11 fly's and 7 Fish that were on good. So I hope this helps. Nothing I have found can beat Maxima line for Steelhead fishing.
Two Top 10 finishes on the Wal-mart BFL Tour by devil6927 ,Jan 19 '04
Pros: Heavier tests increases hookset potential and getting them off the bottom Cons: Sometimes difficult to see movement in the line or where you have casted after settling.
I fish deep and clear waters while on the Arkie Tour of the Wal-Mart BFL. Furthermore I live within a few miles of the clearest lakes in the Nation. Lake Ouachita, Lake DeGray, and Greers Ferry, Arkansas
I am convinced the Vanish line has increased my catches this past year. I have been able to increase the poundage used without taking away from my casting distance. And my hooksets have improved probably 25%.In the past I have generally stayed with 10# test Trilene XL but since the advent of florocarbon I have moved to 14 and 17# test Vanish in almost all circumstances.
I read all the hype about the Berkley Vanish line in In-Fisherman and how it changes color so the fish don't see it but you can. I decided to try it and paid the premium price. What a mistake. First of all, there was no appreciable difference in line visibility that either me or my partner could see compared to other fishing lines. Second, the ilne is very stiff and very prone to tangles from the line spooling itself off of the fishing rod. Third, the line doesn't hold knots well. Fourth, it is pretty lousy for casting.
I came home that night and stripped it off the reels and replaced it with Spiderwire Supermono.
