Pros: Cleans air well, remote control, attractive design, permanent filters. Cons: Overpriced at $149.00, annoying high pitched whir sounds, buzzing vibration sound if panel gets loose
I live in a dairy farm district; and the air is quite smoggy to begin with; so having a machine like this in my room hardly seems like a luxury. Since I’ve been using machines like this, my sinuses glow with health, I stopped sneezing, eyes stopped ...

Very Nice Unit
by cheymontana ,Aug 07 '06
Pros: slim and quiet Cons: pricey
My friend had one and used it for a while and thought it was not working, so she turned it off. After a week she really noticed how much dust was around and turned it back on. She is very pleased. Since her house is virtually dust free, I bought one too. So far, I am very pleased also.

Makes a bad smell
by enough_said ,Apr 25 '06
Pros: With ionizer off - seems to circulate fresh smelling air. Cons: With ionizer on - horrible bad smell.
I am about to return my second unit. The first unit gave off a horrible smell. I replaced it for this second unit which is also giving off a horrible smell. If I turn the ionizer off - the bad smell stops. Clear cause and effect. I phoned the company who claims that 'sometimes there is a problem with the ionizer.'
I have done research into what this bad smell is. Others have complained about the bad smell - and said it was ozone and that it made them sick.
I will try returning it one more time.
If the next replacement unit has the bad smell as well - its bye bye Bionaire 1500.

Air current from one narrow section on the side
by latitudecheck ,Oct 14 '06
Pros: Cleans air, tower build takes up little space and it rotates. Cons: Very limited air flow on one narrow side section.
I purchased this three days ago at Costco. One of the managers said that the model they purchased was very noisy and was returned.
There is no problem with noise level. This cleans the air very well. The only smell is one similar to a new plastic toy or appliance, but it is not offensive.
The big problem with this is that air current comes from just a narrow portion of the front panel. I have not been able to figure out what the problem is but will probably return this product to Costco and try buying another one.
If the new one doesn't work I'm going to look elsewhere at another brand.
I'm still disappointed at the incredible hassle that Bionaire caused in the past with their replacement filter air cleaners. I was never able to find the correct size replacement hepa filter for the four Bionaire models I have purchased in the past.

Annoying Buzzing Noise
by bigfoot17 ,Feb 16 '07
Pros: Cleans the air well, Remote, Permanent Filters, and it helped my allergies Cons: annoying buzzing noise and quality concerns
I got this Air Purifier with a coupon at Costco for about $100. It looked good and had all the features I wanted. I got home, turned it on and within a few hours the new filter scent had gone away. Unfortunantly, however it also began to make a strange and very loud buzzing noise from the front air discharge grill. I was able to stop the noise, by pushing on the front, but it continued to come back. After trying to see if the noise would go away for a few days I have decided to return it to get my money back. I am planning to order another air filter from Costco, not a Bionaire but a Honeywell. I have another Honeywell filter downstairs which works very well and I have had no problems with it whatsoever. The Bionaire filter worked well and did help my allergies, but it had the annoying vibration noises and the air came mostly out in one direction. If you buy this Air Purifier just make sure that you keep the receipt and box for a few days just to make sure it is working ok.

Good, quiet purifier for the money
by mapfelzweig ,Jul 26 '08
Pros: Three settings, built-in ionizer and hepa filters that don't need replacing. Cons: Doesn't move much air at low and medium settings.
I bought my Bionaire 1500 from Fry's for $75 and put it in my small dorm room to help keep dust from accumulating. I've left the unit on nearly 24/7 since I've bought it and have usually left it on the medium setting and sometimes on the low setting with the ionizer on and the unit rotating back and forth. I can personally say that it has done a good job at keeping dust out of the room and the air fresh. Although I don't have any serious allergies I have friends who do and they have noticed that the air feels fresher and cleaner in my room compared to the living room and kitchen areas. For the money I think this unit does a good job and I've had no problems since I bought it. The handheld remote is also a nice plus.
The unit has three settings: whisper quiet on low, audible on medium and jet engine on high, built-in ionizer and cleanable hepa filters that do not need constant replacing.
