Well it's that time of the year again! As the holidays quickly approach, so do the thoughts of getting my house clean quick & keeping it that way for the impending visit of my in laws (yikes!). One of the most used appliances in my house,...
Pros: Portable, Very effective stain cleaner Cons: Fully charged it only lasts about 4-5 minutes.
Let's face it, if you have pets living in your house...there are going to be accidents from time to time no matter how house-trained you think they are!!! Cleaning pet stains from the carpet the conventional way with a brush and a bottle of resolve...

For any of you who have ever had children you know that they are a spill just waiting to happen. I was forever on my hands and knees with a wet towel, but the mess would never come up. Then there are the times when an entire glass of water would just...

Pros: Cordless, Lightweight, Easy to Use Cons: 10 minute charge. Only for spills/spots.
I admit it. I'm a slob. So is my daughter, my pets, my boyfriend, his kids, my family, my friends. I'm beginning to think that East Central Indiana is a breeding ground for people who spill, drop, squish, and knock over things. And then multiply this...
Pros: Effective and easy to use. Cons: BATTERY DIES IN 10-15 MINUTES!!!
Why did we buy the Bissell Spot Lifter?
After recently having week-long company, we discovered three or four unsightly, stinky stains on our living room carpet, which is a light blue/gray color. We needed to get them out ASAP, so...
Pros: Small, cordless, lightweight Cons: SMALL solution capacity
I tend to be a sucker for gadgets, especially when I don't want to a job, such as cleaning carpets. We have 3 dachshunds and every once in a while, like this morning, accidents - one kind or another - happen.
Pros: It is cordless and lightweight. Cons: Didn't I just charge that battery? My tank is empty already?
When I moved into my new home, I bought a Bissell Quicksteamer to clean my light colored carpets. I then realized that I had no attachments and therefore could not freshen my upholstery with my new purchase.
Pros: Can't think of any! Cons: Cheaply made, ineffective, leaks, and overpriced.
The Bissell Spotlifter handvac is not good for spots any bigger than about six square inches. TO use this machine, you have to take off the clean water tank and mix solution and clean water. Then you have to use a hand trigger to spray the water out ...
Pros: worked well in the beginning Cons: where to begin.....
When my son started eating on his own it was quite a mess. So we went looking for a small hand held cleaner for our carpet. There wasn't a lot of choices here for what we wanted so we bought the Bissell Spot Lifter Cordless Hand-Held Deep Cleaner 1715A....

If you have read any of my other reviews, you already know that I have three children and one husband. What I havent told you is that we recently bought a house with off white carpet throughout. Add a dog and cat to this mixture and you have a...
This little steam cleaner really does a good job. The cats throw up their hair balls along with some cat food and it is time to pull out the steam cleaner. Typically I am only cleaning a few square inches of soiled carpet. However, cats have an ability...
Pros: Cleans small areas very well Cons: battery, small cleaning solution compartment, time consuming

Pros: Really gets the stain out! Cons: Solution tank too small!
I was actually wanting a steam vac for Christmas but my husband got me the Bissell Spot Lifter instead. When I really think about it, when in the world would I have time to steam vac my house? It's cheaper to just rent one once a year. But this little...
Pros: Great hand held cleaner that always cleans up my carpet. It never fails. Cons: Lots of them.
I really didn't plan on writing a review about the Bissell Spot Lifter. After all, almost 100 people have written reviews and have probably mentioned everything that you wanted to read. But when the Spot Lifter saved my carpet again, I just felt that I...
Pros: Always charged Cons: Only enough charge for one small spot, breaks easily
We have had a Bissell Spot Lifter Cordless for about a year now - got it about the same time we got our dog. The purchase was made with the dog in mind, and 90% of our usage of the Spot Lifter has been for spots made by said dog. I thought that having a...
Pros: removes spots easily Cons: runs out of power and cleaner quickly
I had tried almost everything to get the stains out of my carpet and this is the best so far. I tried all of the sprays and foams, but they never got the stains completely out. And I was tired of renting the Rug Doctor every few months. I still rent...
Pros: Good idea. Vacuum works well. Cons: Battery life is too short, as is solution tank.
If you own cats, you have to expect to have the occassional wet surprise on your carpet. If you're stupid enough to own two cats, cleaning up nicely formed clumps of hair and cat food the size of pretzel nuggets becomes second nature. Combine two cats ...
Pros: Nice color and no cords to trip over. Cons: Heavy, long charging time, low usage time, small collection tank, overpriced.
You know, rarely in my opinions that I have considered sharing could I find a product to write about that I absolutely hated with enough passion to take the time to express my innate disappointment with it to others. Well, today Im taking the first...
Pros: works like a charm!! Cons: Battery won't last long
This product is amazing. This is the first and only appliance I have ever asked for for Christmas, and I am so glad. After getting burned by the Dirt Devil Mop Vac, I was skeptical of items like this, but I am so happy with it. Throw away your Resolve...
Pros: Portable and small. Strong vacuum. Easy maintenance. Cons: No holding compartment for time that the battery is being charged.

Pros: lightweight, easy to assemble and disassemble Cons: Long charging time, inadequate power
I have a dog. I have a son. I have carpet. A local store had the 1715 on sale for $19.99. I read the reviews on epinions, and I bought one. Maybe the model number is very important. The other reviews were for a 1715-G. The one I bought is a 1715-S (rem ...
Pros: Great for the quick cleanup of spills Cons: Difficult to clean out
Make no mistake; this is a Man's toy.
Sleek. Stylish. Powerful motor with manly rumbles. Oh yeah baby, this is the stuff. At least, that's what I tell myself. It's easier on the ego then "It cleans up urine good".
Pros: Works well on simple stains Cons: Runs out of power very quickly
I have two little carpet graffiti artists at my home, ages 7 years and 18 months old. At least once every couple of days I put my toe into something wet or slimy smeared into an interesting pattern. I run for the Bissell Spot Lifter.
Pros: Gets out most stains fairly easily, portable and easy to use Cons: Battery life lacking; tends to leak for a bit after use.

Pros: lightweight, compact, good suction, easy to fill and empty Cons: Battery has a VERY short life, must have unit on to spray cleaning solution which uses battery time.

Pros: gets out stains and picks up liquid quickly Cons: solution tank is small
Having a dog and a small child can make for messy carpets sometimes. We bought the Bissell Spot Lifter because cleaning up stains in the carpet with just a spray stain remover wasnt working.
Pros: Great lil' sucker!!! Cons: Can't use on A/C. Short battery life.
I purchased my Spot Lifter just last week. I'll spare you the very gory details of how I decided to buy one but it does involve a nasal hemorrage that ruined my house to the tune of $4,000 and took enough blood out of me to bring my BP down to 90 over...
Pros: lightweight, easy to measure solution, doesn't leak Cons: Short run time, battery has limited number of recharges.
My wife and I received the spot lifter as a gift a little over a year ago. We had been looking for something lightweight that would help save our carpet from two old dogs that leak.

Pros: Does the job it is intended for Cons: short charge, small cleaning solution tank
Having two dogs, a cat and three kids under 6 years of age in the house makes for a pretty spotty carpet... After seeing the Spot Lifter advertised for over a year and the price not dropping, I broke down and bought one about three weeks ago.
Pros: Great cleaning job Cons: Charge only lasts 5 minutes then takes 12 hours to recharge.
I bought this little machine because I have 4 dogs that live inside. I have the big steam cleaner that you have to connect to the faucet but it is too much of a pain just for a small spot.
It is small and lightweight, and a pretty green color....
UPDATE 7-25-02: RIP BISSELL. THE UNIT DIED? WHY? THE NICAD BATTERIES FINALLY GAVE UP DUE TO MEMORY EFFECT. YOU SEE, YOU RARELY USE THE ENTIRE BATTERY LIFE WHEN DOING A CLEANUP, BUT UNFORTUNATELY, IT'S NOT ENOUGH FOR TWO CLEANUPS. SO WHAT HAPPENS?...

Pros: easy to set-up, use and clean. compact, gets the job done superbly when with the right cleaning product. Pricey but worth it Cons: runs out of power in 5 minutes, takes about 8 hours to charge, will not work well on old stains, needs a larger tank for cleaning fluid mixture.
Overall, I have been happy with my Bissell spot lifter. It has prevented new stains in our home for about 6 months now. It does the job well on any new spills that most certainly will become stains. However, it does have a few drawbacks, but I...

Pros: Good with small spots, portability Cons: Short usage time, can't get "tough stains"

I knew I should have read Epinions before buying this product.........Anyway, somehow I was lured into thinking that cordless meant convenient . Not so. The Bissell Spot Lifter takes way too long to charge, not to mention the fact that once it is charged...
Pros: attractive Cons: doesn't clean well-short battery life
I have off-white berber carpet but since it is only my husband and myself in the house, I thought the Bissell Spot Lifter would be perfect for the occasional spill and spot. I was wrong. It does not clean berber carpet, maybe nothing cleans it well,...
Pros: inexpensive, powerful, convenient Cons: short battery life
It's pretty common knowledge that you avoid buying cleaning tools for your wife on Christmas... BUT! This one really made a hit and became the exception to the rule. It may be the most welcome appliance in the whole house. 2 kids and a husband can...
Pros: The suction is one of the best for a small machine Cons: Battery does not last long enough
Over the years I have bought bissel products and have always been pleased with the quality. This time I was disappointed with the battery operated hand held cleaner. The cleaner itself was great it practically sucked my rug off the floor, unfortunately...
Pros: convenient, inexpensive, light weight Cons: didnt know where to hang it up
I purchased this spot cleaner because I have 3 dogs and they are always tracking in something. This is the best money I ever invested in a product. Its quik and easy and does a wonderful job.And I love the convenience of having it right at hand hanging on...
Pros: Lightweight and cleans spills good Cons: none really
One of my friends is physically unable to pick up or move anything heavy. She cannot push a large carpet scrubber or even a vaccuum cleaner. She got this little spotter for Christmas. This is great for her. She babysits a few kids and she has her older...
I just bought a puppy and knew I needed a carpet cleaner/spot remover. The main reason I opted for this Bissell is its low price. I wish I would have saved my money and bought a real carpet cleaning machine.
Pros: Lightweight, easy to use and figure out. Cons: Battery does't stay charged, leaking of dirty water.
Yes this little thing does clean those stubborn stains that you just can't quite get out with the old fashioned wash rag and soap deal!! But, the battery does not and will not stay charged for no longer than 15 minutes. I know that the battery has to be...
Pros: ease of use, cordless, actually works Cons: short battery life, long re-charging time
The bad news is that you have only five minutes of battery life to eradicate that stain! The other bad news is that then the battery has to recharge for 8-14 hours. The good news is that the Spot Lifter does do a jam up job of sucking up little spills...
Pros: Great for the quick pickup of fresh stains Cons: Holds very little solution, only good for small stains.
I recently purchased the Bissell Spot Lifter to help me in the house training of my newest puppy. I am shocked on how useful this tool has been. I am sure that most of you pet owners understand how hard it is to house train your animals. You have to...
I received the Cordless Spotlifter as a Christmas gift. It was just what I had wanted...Lightweight, Cordless, and it was a Bissell. Unfortunately because my fiance works at a return desk he got to see the problems first hand. Right after he had...
Pros: Cord is a good length and it's lightweight. Cons: The extractor sucks (not literally!!) My carpets were still damp.
I live with a husband who spills everything, his twin brother who is just some disgusting "goo" that somehow walks the face of this earth, two small dogs (one called "tinkles") and two kittens. I have very light beige carpeting throughout my entire ...
Pros: Could be great for others?? Cons: Loses energy fast!
My husband bought me the bissell spot lifter for Mother's day. It was great and all, but with new carpet I was skeptical to use it with the cleaning solution fearing it may wear my carpet. So I tried it in my car. Well after about 5 minutes or less the...
This item is horrible, you have to charge the thing for a month just to get enough of a charge to create enough power to get it to work "correctly" what ever that may be. I have yet to see it work right.
Due to my cat, who has a digestive disorder that causes her to throw up frequently, I bought the stain lifter. I was less than satisfied with this product. First of all, you have to charge the thing for a full 24 hours before you can use it. I suppose...
Pros: small, available for on the spot spot removal Cons: short usage time, battery burn out, wouldn't hold a charge
Having 2 dogs and a cat,we purchased the Bissell Spot Lifter to compliment our full size Bissell cleaner. We thought the Spot Lifter would be good for those little "woopsies" that life brings - the dog may not have made it to the door on time, the cat...
This Bissell Spot Lifter did a great job for our little spills while it was working!! Great if you have pets or little ones spilling things on the carpet or furniture. We had ours for only three months though before it went the way of the garbage. Our...
Pros: does an excellent job of cleaning Cons: cordless, so the charge doesn't last long
The bissell spot lifter does a good job on small carpet spots. The amount of soap and water applied to the carpet is enough to really clean without over saturating the carpet. The only flaw to the product is that the charge doesn't last very long, then...
Pros: Handy, and deep cleaning Cons: easy to die battery
This is the greatest little machine, since i first saw it I knew i had to have one. I have 2 kids under the age of 2 and let me tell you it works great for cleaning up after them. The battery dies fairly fast but other than that it is great. I have...
Pros: small and lightweight Cons: weak sucking action
i bought this bc i have dogs that pee everywhere. i always wanted a wet vacuum to suck up the mess without driving the stain deeper into the carpet, such as carpet cleaner solutions that you use with a sponge or rag. this vacuum doesnt have strong...

Pros: Small, portable, cleans stains well. Cons: Lasts five minutes at a time, small solution capacity, takes forever to charge.
I'll get to the nitty gritty. This spotlifter will get up stains really well. Honestly I would say it is the cleaning solution. I paid $30 for the spotlifter which isn't bad, but there are problems......
1: Only after you buy it do you find out that it only works five minutes at a time. This crucial information should be written on the outside of the box, not just in the instructions.
2: You will find that the solution tank has a small capacity and that you will be running back and forth to your sink to refill it many times.
3: The first time you use it you MUST charge it for 24 hours so that it will last 5 minutes. Any time after that I takes many hours to fully recharge and then it will last......yes you've guessed it-only 5 whole minutes.
Overall: save up your pennies to get a quality carpet/spot lifter.
Convenient & cleans well, but not durable by eosa10 ,Oct 14 '03
Pros: Super cleaning power and very portable. Cons: Propensity to leak, not enough charge time, just stopped working.
We purchased this on a friend's recommendation as a handy way to clean up after spills caused by our huge dog.
We loved the portability of it, and nicknamed it "the bissellator". It cleaned really really well.
However, we soon had problems:
1) it only holds a charge for 5 minutes
2) 12 months after we bought it, it just failed to operate.
3) if you didn't hold it flat, it would leak dirty yuck everywhere
The 5-minute charge window is wholly inconvenient because the unit is bulky and must remain plugged in virtually at all times in order to be charged when you have that red wine spill. So you have to sacrifice an outlet and some place to put it -- not easy when you have a dog and a baby and can't leave the thing on the floor!
One day it just stopped working. We checked the outlet, checked that the charger was plugged in to the unit properly, and nothing worked. We might've used it once every 2 weeks or so, so it wasn't overworked.
Pros: easy to use Cons: leaks, poor battery performance
After about one year of use, my Bissell Spot Lifter has begun leaking. Also the battery life is very short. In the beginning, this unit had good suction. I am not sure if the battery is just not strong enough but I would recommend a unit that you can plug in and use.
After using the unit today, I went to dump the waste unit and found that the unit had developed a leak. I then had dirty water dripping all over my carpet. It does not look like the leak can be repaired. The clean water unit does not fit right and now the dirty water unit is leaking even though it is seated properly. My other complaint on this unit is that even though it has some brushes, rotating brushes would be more helpful. The static brushes seem to serve little purpose. I am looking at purchasing a Dirt Devil unit.
Great for touch-ups between the REAL carpet shampooing by garch13 ,Dec 17 '03
Pros: Great for accidents, small jobs Cons: Durability, leakage, charging ability or lack of
Fantastic for those with kids and/or pets. Helps with spills, muddy paw prints and so forth. Don't expect BIG things out of this. It is for small clean-up. Suction power is great while the battery lasts. Even with the short battery life I'd rather have cordless..I don't have time to drag out the corded version! I use this in-between the regular monthly BIG carpet cleaner cleanings.
Don't expect this to last longer than a year. The first one we had just up and died. The second one the dirt collection tank broke and it's on the verge of up and dying. I'm not paying $17-20 for just a new tank so that the rest of the machine can die on me...I'm searching for something more durable...anyone from Bissell listening! Durability!!
EWW! Doggy pee! AND IT'S STILL THERE!! by hotaru25 ,Sep 19 '03
Pros: Very strong suction for removing fluids from carpet. Cons: 12 hours of charging for 5 minutes use, useless brush add-on.
Yet another testament to the destructive capability of the little Welsh Corgi living with me. He had a bad day and "marked" several parts on my carpet.
In a frenzy, I rushed to Wal-Mart and bought this item, which looked like a good buy for what I needed. This was a good item for the suction capablity, which could suck a "golf ball through a garden hose" most likely. ^-^ In the middle of my cleaning spree however, the Spotlifter began winding down and that's when I realized it wanted over 12 hours of charging for 5 minutes of cleaning.
For the mess my dog had made, this was ridiculous. I also was curious about the scrubber brush that was also part of the package. It does not actually do any scrubbing, as it is located BEHIND the suction portion of the vacuum and does not actually scrub. Thus the scrubber is merely a useless addition to gain the eyes of buyers.
On the plus side, it was exceptionally easy to clean and, as I said before, very good at actually lifting liquids out of carpets.
Pros: The brushes work pretty good.Trouble is it just pushed the mess further into the carpet. Cons: I haven't found a redeeming feature except the brushes.
Worthless piece of junk.
99% of the solution and whatever you're trying to clean stays in the carpet. You're suppose to tilt it up to suction the cleaning solution and the mess out. Tilt and press REALLY hard and you may get a miniscule amount of the dirty water out. After emptying the solution compartment about 5 times I still have only about 1" of dirty water in the dirty water compartment.
Bissell Spotlifter handheld vacuum by travels70 ,Jan 22 '04
Pros: Easy to use. Cons: Little suction.
Product has little suction.Good on hard surfaces. Not on carpet. It'll help but so will blotting with a white towel. Not impressed. No wonder it's inexpensive.
Okay for small, minor stains - not good if there are kids involved by l_adams ,Oct 30 '04
Pros: Lightweight Cons: Looses charge too quickly, cannot handle larger messes, doesn't have enough suction
We bought this little hand-held cleaner when our son was a baby. Figured that with a baby and 2 cats, we were bound to need to clean up slops and stains.
This is a handy item for someone without pets or children - it just cannot handle the messes they make, the battery looses its charge too quickly (less then 5 minutes use now, maybe 10 brand new).
Now - if I'd had it in college, it would have been an absolute gem.
The Worst Thing I ever bought by eschader ,Apr 13 '05
Pros: If you only need to use it twice, it works well. Cons: After more that a couple of uses, it loses power and suction and becomes worthless.
Despite the unfavorable review my neighbor gave me on this vacuum when I borrowed it, I decided to buy it to clean up those little messes when my son decided to throw up on the carpet. The first couple times I used it, it was great. It sucked everything up and cleaned just the little spot I wanted to clean without having the use a big machine or calling a professional carpet cleaner.
After that, it was all downhill. The first unit wouldn't recharge and I sent it back to Bissell for another. The second one would lose its charge in one minute of using it after a few uses. I even tried to use it while it was plugged in and it wouldn't suck anymore.
I ended up throwing it away. That's right, I didn't even give it to Goodwill or to a friend. I put it where it belongs--in the trash!
Who you gunna call? SPOT LIFTER! LOL by fisherpaykel ,May 30 '05
Pros: Easy to use, Powerful, Quick And Easy Clean Up, All Round Wonderful Cons: Short Battery Life (5 minutes), Uses solution too fast, Suction could be stronger
We got our spot lifter for $20 Aussie Dollars in Target because it was the last one & it was a display model. After the 24 hour charge we fired it up on dog liquid (the liquid produced from a dog's rear end) and was amazed at how quickly it cleaned it up!. Following the directions I felt that the long pile carpet was overwet after cleaning. It went through the cleaning Solution (50% Bissell Little Green Formula & 50% Water) rather quickly and had to fill up twice for one spot using up 1/2 the trial bottle of Bissell Little Green Solution. Clean-up is quick and easy. I rinse the dirty water tank and the clean water tank out after each use with hot water then I place it out in the sunshine. Fully charging takes about 12 hours according to the manual but I find it is ready to use again after 3 1/2 hours. Having a dog & three cats this machine is a blessing. We have a Vax Sukka and it is way too much trouble to get it out just for one puppy puddle.
Leaky cleaning solution tank by mjourney ,Oct 01 '04
Pros: An effective stain remover if you don't mind cleaning solution getting everywhere. Cons: Leaky cleaning solution tank makes cleaning up more of a messy situation!
After having a Spotlifter for only a few months, the (very small) cleaning solution tank began to leak continuously. I can't even clean a stain without the solution tank leaking all over the place!
it worked fine the first few times I used it. Now after 2 months, the water reservoir started to leak. Only works if you use very hot water, not warm as they claim.
Does not help too much with petstains, unless you catch them as they are happening. Mine is in the garbage now. Good for tiiny spots, not useful for petstains and the durability is not what I had expected
I think this is a great product and would not hesitate to purchase it again or recommend it to family and friends. It does a super job on small spills. The suction/cleaning nozzle is plastic and my kids broke the button you push to remove it but overall it has held up nicely. I have ordered a new nozzle.
Had a year...wish I hadn't bought it. by res1eott ,Nov 30 '05
Pros: None now, might have had one a year ago when I bought it. Cons: Leaks. Leaks. Leaks. Weak suction.
Worked nice at first...then, after about 6 months, noticed it was wet in the back underneath the cleaning reservoir. Now, after a year, if I leave cleaning solution in the tank, it is nearly empty after a week. Leaks terrible. Suction is mediocre at best. Spray works fine. Waste tank doesn't leak. I haven't had a problem with the charge or how long is lasts.
My biggest beef with this... by govega_dt3000 ,Feb 23 '03
My biggest beef with this is that it only is good for about five minutes before you have to recharge it for at least a few hours. The water reservoir did start to leak after a month. The suction is very good and the cleaning is excellent though on small areas. It cleaned dried-in stains and made my whole house smell clean. The proof is in the waste-water, which can show a very black dirt color even after doing only a small area!
The design of the used-water reservoir's plug is bad though. You need to make sure it is screwed in correctly or else you will bend it like I did when you put the whole thing back together after emptying.
