Pros: Inexpensive and lightweight. Cons: You need a long extension cord.
Introduction When we moved into our new house, after the grass and weeds started growing in the backyard, they finally got up to the height that they needed cutting. The stuff, due to my neglect and ok laziness, had gotten about a foot high. I ...
Pros: Auto line feed, relatively quiet, head rotates for edging. Cons: Touchy trigger, edging can be awkward for shorter people.
When my elderly gas-powered Weed Eater finally died, my wife suggested that I purchase an electric trimmer that she could handle (she does not like the weight or noise of a gas trimmer). I was reluctant at first because I dislike dragging along an ...
Pros: Lightweight, Powerful, Easy to Use, Cons: Autofeed spool doesn't always let enough wire through, Trigger easy to accidently trip
I recently moved int a house that required me to purchase a trimmer. Although the area to be trimmed is quite extensive, i bought the electric grass hog because i don't like fiddling with gas/oil mixtures and, most of all, it had automatic feed trimmer ...
Pros: Great for trimming grass in hard to reach areas Cons: Not great as an edger
We bought this automatic feed trimmer a year ago and it's still working well. It's not very heavy, however, you need to adjust the angle of the handle to suit your height. This is easy to do using the button adjustment near the handle. This trimmer ...
Pros: Automatic line feeder, light weight, and easy to use. Cons: Not cordless.
More times than not our day-to-day household chores seem like monotonous tasks that keep us from enjoying life. However, if we delve deeper we can see that not only are some tasks not monotonous they also help us tap into that creative inner self. Some ...

Pros: Light weight. Powerful. Gets the job done. Cons: Gas powered is a little more mobile.
I finally took the weeds by the roots (or close) and bought a Black & Decker 12 inch Automatic Feed Trimmer / Grass Hog GH400. Actually I had a weedeater in the garage that someone gave me as a housewarming present when I bought my house four years...
Pros: Lightweight, versatile, excellent value Cons: Too easily triggered start
All the string trimmers I've used were really disappointing: I had to watch constantly to be sure the string was still long enough to cut, and they needed to be "bumped" to pay out more line so often that they wasted a lot of my time -- especially since...
I owned the trimmer for only 1 month. I bought it for the following features: the automatic feed and the option of rotating the device for edge trimming. This trimmer does a great job trimming and edging, but lacks that same efficiency with the...
Pros: Automatic feed really works Cons: A little heavy. Hard for small hands to remove battery.
This trimmer has revolutionized my life. Heretofore I owned a Sears Craftsman trimmer with a cord feeder that constantly jammed. And trying to bump it to advance the feed was a joke...the guard always fell off. This has none of those problems. The...
Pros: Quiet, easy to use, spool easy to replace. Cons: Not enough power for tougher jobs.
The Grass Hog is a good trimmer. With a neck that you can adjust to change the angle for edging and the low noise I would highly recommend this product for anyone with a lawn that needs trimming of grass and areas that don't need a great deal of edging...
Pros: Electric, Light weight, powerful, Auto feed, Edges great Cons: None I can think of. May be the spool cost
I had bought a Sears brand Gas weed whacker 5 years ago. It was good the first year. Then it started acting up. I have been messing with the fuel-oil mixture, spark plug etc. This year it refused to start and I decided to go electric.
Pros: Gutsy motor, doesn't get bogged down in heavy grass Cons: Could cut further from the spool.
Here it is, the end of the summer, and I was in the unfortunate position of having my string trimmer break before my cutting season was over. I had a Black and Decker 14" electric trimmer and had been pleased with it's performance. It had been around for...
Black & Decker Grass Hog, automatic feed a joke by ry-aa27aa ,Dec 12 '06
Pros: Light, easy to use. Cons: Automatic feed is a joke.
I was initially impressed by the Grass Hog. Light, easy to use, enough power, and didn't tire me out. In the second summer of use, the trimmer would no longer feed the line. Bought new line (.065), same result. After hours of frustration I was ready to can it and try something else.
It will get the job done. by madisonkobalt ,May 31 '05
Pros: Speed, edge guide, auto feed line does not require constant manual adjustments. Cons: Loud for an electric. Uses a significant amount of line. Cord retention system occasionally slips.
I have been using it for over a year now and appreciate that it quickly gets the trimming jobs done. I have never used a trimmer with the Automatic Feed Spool before and find it uses more line then I expected. (I snap off pieces of line frequently on the neighbors chain link fence which then feeds out more to be cut off to length.) I have used and found the Groomm 'N' Edge head rotation to be occasionally useful as well as the Edge guide. B&D need to work on the cord retention system. It sort of works on the trimmer and my LawnHog lawn mower. Watch out though, if you use too large of a gauge electrical cord it will not fit through the retention systems. The only other item worth mentioning is this trimmer is louder than some other electrics which my neighbors have.
