Pros: delicious bread that makes the whole house smell great Cons: can be noisy during mixing cycle. diet buster
When I travelled to Israel, I was limited in what I could bring - two boxes, not to exceed 70 pounds each, plus two carry ons. That sounds like a lot, but not when you're carrying text books. Many of my favorite things from back in San Diego had to stay...
Pros: easy to use, great results Cons: none I can think of
It has always been a tradition in my husband's family to get together on Memorial Day. I remember one particular time, his aunt had bought one of these great inventions. We had fresh, homemade bread every morning and would have to make a couple more...
This bread machine is really great and is wonderful if you like the smell and taste of fresh bread in your own home. The machine is very versatile and I use mine for making more than just bread. Bread machines are so easy to use, you just need to...
Pros: Fresh baked bread, delicious aroma Cons: Having to wait 2 hours - I want it NOW!
I purchased this machine after spending an agonising 2 hours at my brothers house smelling the aroma of freshly baked bread, knowing I was on my way to the shops for some of the good old pre packaged, mass produced sliced variety.
Pros: everything from the timer to the delicious bread Cons: DONT, put in the dishwasher
The Black And Decker bread machine really brings back memories from my childhood. My mother did not make regular bread but homemade rolls, and this machine really smelled like that old run down kitchen back home.
The Black And Decker Horizontal...
Pros: Several settings, makes great bread Cons: Lack of manual controls
We bought the B&D B2000 on sale last week at Wal Mart for 90C$ (10th anniversary special). I had always wanted a bread machine ... I do make my own bread (or should I say, I did make my own bread) but the messiness of the exercise meant that I didn't ...
Pros: Makes great tasting bread, easy to use, clean up is a breeze Cons: Durability and longevity is questionable. Not repairable.
This bread machine works as advertised. It makes nice baked bread and it also prepares dough for pizzas and fancy breads that you shape and finish in a regular oven. The machine is easy to use and the manual is easy to understand and has a variety of ...
Pros: great value, loads of options, great bread Cons: been known to stick to the window

Black and Decker 2 LB Horizontal Breadmaker
I have always wanted a bread maker. In fact I have been pining for one for about 5 years, and I finally got one for my birthday last summer. Since then I have yet to buy a loaf of bread from...
Pros: Easy to clean, turns out perfect loaves of fresh bread! Cons: None that I have found.
My husband and I received a Black and Decker All-In-One HorizontalTM Automatic Breadmaker for Christmas from his mother. I read the directions and found them to be direct and easy to follow!
Pros: Easy to clean, trusted name brand, versitile Cons: Timer is a little awkward to use at first.
I am addicted to kitchen appliances. I am the type of person
that has to have all the newest kitchen gadgets but when breadmakers came on the market I really dragged my heals.
Finally they came down in price enough for me to jump on the...
Pros: Virtually effortless bread making. Perfect loaves every time. Minimal clean-up. Big loaves. Good price. Cons: None, except you can't put the pan in the dishwasher. (How lazy am I ?!)
If you've ever made bread the "old fashioned" way, you'll know what I mean when I mention "effort".
I remember making bread with my mother and grandmother - all of that kneading and waiting and kneading some more. That added up to a whole...
Pros: Very Easy To Use Cons: Bread Holder (wher it cooks at) need to be a little better to make bigger bread
My friends mom got the bread maker for Christmas this year. Since she loves making bread I thought mmmmm.....I'm gonna get to try all the bread she makes. Well, I was right. She's loves this machine! She makes the most awesome bread with this bread...
There is no bread like bread fresh out of the oven.....or the bread machine. The bread that you buy at the bakery doesn't even compare (or I must really have some bad bakeries around here). Whenever I cook bread from this machine, I usually end up...
Pros: Makes delicious, healthy bread. Cons: You have to buy the ingredients and follow a recipe.
Preparing meals and baking at home has become completely unheard of lately. There is instant this and instant that, and it's all very well and good as it makes more time for other things. But sometimes you can't match the aroma of freshly baked goods and...
Pros: While it worked, we all LOVED having homemade bread. Cons: Very poor quality machine that breaks easily.
My husband bought me this for my birthday and I was thrilled as I had really been wanting to try it. It worked great for about 6 months and then the paddle at the bottom just stopped rotating one day. It would work when the machine was empty but when ...
Pros: Delivers perfectly proofed dough in 2 hours with less than 4 minutes of setup time Cons: As is likely in most machine breads, the loaf comes out like a giant muffin.
I found the bread out of the machine not nearly as good as the bread I was able to make just by having the machine proof the dough over a 2 hour cycle and then by baking it in a convection oven. Otherwise the loaf was like a giant muffin.
Pros: Easy to use, consistent end result. Cons: BEEEP BEEEP BEEEP....and if you lose your manual, you're hooped.
I have to agree with everyone's assessment that the machine is very easy to use and produces consistently nice bread. I also have to agree with everyone's assessment that the beeping noise is quite like fingers on a chalkboard. I've tried to use this ...
Pros: Loved the machine...easy to use & great results every time... Cons: Very poor customer service...to Canada anyway...
I have had my B&D breadmaker for about 3 years & use it probably once a week & have excellent results every time. It's easy to use & have tried all kinds of bread & rolls in it. That being said, 2 days ago I proceeded to make a load of bread...measured ...
Pros: Makes bread that looks and smells great! Cons: Not a well-made machine. Consider a different brand.
I purchased the B1561 at the end of Feb '06. I used it about once a week for about 6 weeks when I noticed motor grease at the bottom of the oven chamber where the bread pan connects to the oven chamber. I called B&D to ask if this was normal and I was ...
I purchased this product mainly because of the brand name and that it was in a sale flyer at the time. I already owned the larger horizontal Black& Decker machine and am pleased with it. I must admit this machine was quieter in operation than the...
Pros: makes great bread, easy to use and clean up Cons: none
Bread...How cool would it be if you could make the same smelling and even better tasting bread that you get at resturants? Well Black and Decker has come up with a good idea to make you bread dreams come true. This bread machine is the best thing and...
Pros: making bread is easier Cons: bread to brown and hard
My breadmaker is a Black and Decker. I like the breadmaker because of the ease of making bread. I purchase packaged mix, then follow the directions from the machine. I can set the breadmaker to the setting I want and go about my day. However, I find...

Black & Decker Breadmaker Model B2005 by rjbowe ,Jan 27 '07
Pros: Worked for a little while.. Cons: Bread was overcooked now just mixes...
This is the one that makes the horizontal loaf. It hasn't worked the best since I bought it now when it starts to mix it just keeps mixing it won't stop so had to finish in my regular oven.
I called the number on my book and got Fox International but having problems finding what I want and after reading some of the reviews here I guess I should just go buy a new one and not a Black & Decker????
Pros: Good for the first dozen or so uses Cons: Died too quickly for the money, customer service plays dumb.
I had this bread maker for just over a year. I was used infrequently but it broke just the same. The oil under the baking paddle started to leak out. Funny thing is that I had the same problem with a "cheap" bread maker prior to purchasing the B&D. I guess the name brand does not mean much. I called the 1-800 number and they indicated that this was the first time they had heard of the problem (maybe they should look at these reviews).
They did not bother offering to sell me another pan but when I asked they quoted me a price close to the cost of replacing the machine.
Well I guess I will put my money into a better bread maker.
Pros: Horizontal orientation. Two mixing blades. Cons: Blades come off during mixing and cause damage.
I love the loaves this bread maker produces. I love the horizontal orientation and the two mixing blade format. I HATE the fact that the blades come off in mid-cycle. I can't put it on timer, I can't leave the kitchen. I have to sit and listen for the clank and clatter of a loose blade, then rush to the kitchen and pull the plug, replace the blade, plug the machine back in and go back to listening. I've replaced the pan twice and blades once, due to scratching of the non stick coating when I was too slow on the plug. Very frustrating. I never had this problem with my previous bread maker. Gonna have to give it up, I guess.
Pros: Easy to use and to keep clean. Uncomplicated programming feature. Cons: In case of failure, replacement parts are impossible to find.
Makes beautiful bread and is easy to use. Great for making pizza dough and specialty breads. Bake timing feature comes in handy if you have a busy schedule.
Pros: Makes good bread Cons: Lack of service & honest repair information.
I have bought two B2000 Breadmakers and experienced the problem with the wingnut falling off. Customer service told me it could not be fixed (the first time) and I bought a second. The same problem occurred.
I figured I had nothing to loose, so I took the bottom plate off the machine (there are 6 screws, two in the middle and four inside the rubber legs). The wingnut was loose inside the bottom of the machine and it was a simple matter to reinstall it using a wrench. I still have the first machine and will go back and fix it.
Don't believe it can't be fixed. It's a 15 minute job, including the time to open a beer to celebrate the fix.
Oh, and watch out, the sheet metal edges are very sharp.
Pros: It makes a bigger loaf. Cons: The Whole Wheat recipe is 60% white. Other Bread makers are for 100% whole wheat.
The bread does not bake long enough, and pushes the lid up during baking.
The pan is also difficult to put in and take out. I would not buy this bread maker again. I had a Toastmaster before and for ease of handling and quality of loaf it was far superior.
I feel like getting rid of the Black and Decker bread maker in the next auction sale.
Black and Decker B2005 Horizontal Automatic Breadmaker by gerbie ,Sep 28 '05
Pros: Does make decent dough and bread but... Cons: Can have a very short lifespan...beware. Choose another brand.
The surprising amount of good reviews for this machine are from users that are yet to experience problems. Two weaknesses are the seal in the bottom of the pan which eventually seizes and then leaks grease into the dough and the other is that the drive wingnut in the bottom of the base detaches and can't be fixed.....Perhaps a more insidious fault is that the teflon coating in the bread pan and sometimes the paddle tends to wear off where the paddle exerts the most pressure. I have never seen the stuff on the dough but its not in the bread pan anymore. Now where could it have gone? I have owned several of these machines and they do make good bread...that said I would not buy another unless you fork out for the extended warranty. (Parts almost unattainable)
Pros: Convenient when it works. Cons: Obsolescence comes too quickly for Black and Decker.
The bread machine produces adequate results, though night time baking can be quite noisy with the beeping! Don't expect to have your bread machine for too long if it you use it on a regular basis as the piece that holds the rotating shaft onto the baking pan wears out and no replacements parts are available thus the whole machine has to be chucked!
B&D Sells Product, does not service by johnnydee ,Jun 19 '06
Pros: functional, made good bread Cons: cheaply made, not backed up. Throwaway junk.
We've been through 3 bread makers of various brands in 4 years, they all last just a bit longer than the warranty. The latest is Black & Decker B2005, which made very good bread for about a year and a half, and now the spindle that drives the paddle is slipping. A call to the toll-free number on the manual was answered by "Fox International", which it turns out is one of those call centre contractors hired by Applica, which is the name of the company that holds the Black & Decker brand for kitchen appliances.
Anyways, after taking rather a /lot/ of personal information for their database, the beleagered gal at the call center informed me that B&D does not have any authorized service centers, and we should get a new bread maker. I said I could probably fix it myself if I could get a parts list, but she told me they do not offer parts. A google search has shown that B&D is notorious for not servicing its products.
Black and Decker B2000 Breadmaker by lovefreshbread ,Jul 31 '06
Pros: Easy to use and makes good bread. Cons: Baking pain cannot be submursed in water.
Definitely agree with everyone about the poor service. I got to speak to a man at Black and Decker but he could not tell me where to take it to get it fixed; he just kept asking me to look in my local telephone book. The mixing paddle stopped turning thus rending the whole machine useless. We also only had ours just over a year. Since I enjoyed the fresh bread so much and have food allergies I bought another one, but used as I know now that it will just break down. I was hoping to find a way to recycle my old one as I bought the B2005 model used but sounds like i can't. That's just ridiculous! For one tiny part, you'd think they would at least take it back for free and fix it.
No parts available in Canada by datadoc ,Sep 20 '05
Pros: Makes good bread......... Cons: .....for a short time, then throw it away and get a good one.
As far as making bread goes, it does a good job, but as for getting replacement parts, forget it.
The part which holds the paddle in the bread pan has a seal which fails after a fairly short period of time, and which then leaks grease into your bread. MMMMM---mmmmm--yuck!
Breadmaker on sale at Sears Canada is $99 CDN.
Bread pan, available ONLY from the US, $60 US ( rounded off ). I said rounded off, perhaps ripped off is more apt.
Black and Decker All-In-One Horizontal Automatic Breadmaker by bbaker ,Jan 03 '05
Pros: Makes excellent bread when it works Cons: Sadly doesn't work for very long
Couldn't find the 2000 so bought the 2005 in June of 2003. Sadly we are now on our fourth one as after about six weeks the paddle and motor stop working. We contacted B&D only to be told that they hadn't heard of the problem before and yet the shops we returned them to, had had others back.
We really like the machine and the bread that it produces but we are finding it very unreliable.
Pros: Easy to use, some quick recipes, great bread! Cons: Most recipes take longer, mixing paddle makes a hole in the bread.
First, it must be said, don't plan on making bread to save on your groceries. With that said, if you love the smell of fresh bread as you walk past a bakery then the B2000 is an economical machine to make bread right at home.
If you've never made your own bread before don't worry. It doesn't get any easier than the B2000. Set your timer, select the darkness of your crust, select the type of bread and Go!
Although the majority of the recipes take longer to bake, the comprehensive recipe book included with the bread maker also offers Rapid Bake recipes that take just over an hour, and churn out bread that is surprisingly good in quality. I've made quite a few recipes now and have been happy with each.
The recipe book is a great starting point for most breads and lends itself to altering the recipes. Experiment a little and you'll see. Some turn out wonderful, others not so much, but overall it's great!
Pros: When it worked, made excellent bread Cons: Once something breaks, you have to buy a new one. No parts available.
We have had our B&D B2000 Breadmaker for 1 1/2 years and a small part broke. B&D's reply to our questions (done by e-mail as three calls on the 1-800 line had us on hold for an accumulated time of an hour - never spoke to a person) was that we should buy a new one. They offered us a "low complimentary cost" on a new one. When I inquired what that was, the cost was more than I could buy a new one here at a local store. B&D never offered to assist us in getting it repaired.
Pros: Two out of three machines made good bread Cons: Poor durability, parts impossible to find.
The Black and Decker breadmakers make good bread when you get one that works. One of the three I've owned baked too hot and the loaf would always come out over-done and almost burnt unless I pulled it out 20 minutes before the bake cycle was done. The other two baked very well but after about a year they failed in the bottom gasket where the drive axle goes through the pan. That's way too soon for an appliance that costs about $100 CDN.
I liked the first one I had so much that I tried two more, but never again.
Pros: Easy to use and clean. Cons: Unit is not repairable.
Two paddle machine; worked fine until one paddle failed to turn.
Took the machine apart to discover that a plastic pulley driving the paddle had broken. This part is not strong enough to handle the load.
I understand that replacement parts are not available so it's a throw-away.
I would not buy B&D again!
Worked well until it started leaking...? by bsibbing ,Dec 23 '07
Pros: Worked great ... for a while Cons: Poor customer service and no parts available.
In this day ... with everyone talking about the three R's (reduce, reuse & recycle), i'd like to replace the bottom mixing bearing & continue using the "breadmaker Plus" but poor customer service and no parts available makes this a throw away item.
How very sad... spend your money on another corp. B&D should not be in the breadmaking business. They won't get any more dough from me.
Pros: Nice bread, when the machine works Cons: Breaks too easily pizza dough setting only makes one pizza
After using it about 20 times, the machine broke. It was on sale, so I couldn't get a refund. The motor would run, but the paddle wouldn't turn. I was later told the reason Sears had it on sale was because it broke easily. I won't buy this brand again.
