Jura-Capresso IMPRESSA S9 Coffee Maker

Pros: Great espresso
Cons: Poor quality

I purchased the S-9 Avantgard 15 months ago from the Capresso dealer. The steamer malfunctioned right out of the box, it was really weak and inconsistant steaming. I called customer service and they agreed to take the unit in for repair. They returned the machine in about 30 days and the steamer worked much better. The steamers on the Capressa machines are not really powerful but adaquate to create a marginal froth. I then used the machine trouble free for 13 months and then an error message appeared and the unit would not reset itself, I called service department and they said I needed to return it to be repaired and it would cost $250.00 for the service. They send a UPS tag and I returned it in it's original packaging. I just got the unit back from the service department and it now dispenses 7 ounces of coffee when the machine reads 2 ounces is being dispensed. It looks like another trip to the service department is in order. So the S-9 makes great espresso but for $2,500.00 one would expect years of trouble free service.

My experience with the machine has been quite bad - its gone back for repairs multiple times, and is currently broken again. The machine itself is very expensive, so $200+ repair bills are pretty painful to swallow. There is always a long wait when calling Capresso service, so I assume I'm not the only one having problems.

This machine, when it works, makes very good coffee, and acceptable espresso. Steam quality just is OK,  about 50% steam and 50% hot water.

I'd recommend that anyone looking for a super-automatic machine avoid the Jura Capresso line.
