Pros: Brilliantly written, great descriptions and vocabulary Cons: None
My Opinion There has been a lot of buzz surrounding the novels of Khaled Hosseini, especially "The Kite Runner". Having spent a year in Afghanistan myself (hence being somewhat familiar with the culture of the country) I decided to read this ...

Pros: Loyalty, betrayal, sexual exploitation, minority tension, and mental anguish of a young Afghani boy Cons: Less than good writing, but the storyline overrides poor editor's work.
Khalid Housseini's novel is a page-turner, regardless what critics may say about his somewhat simplistic writing. His gift is indeed that of a storyteller - even if all the elements and characters are contrived, who cares? A good story is ...

Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing
I’m spoiled. I’ve always been told that I’m spoiled and I didn’t actually mind the term as I kind of liked the idea of being spoiled, even teasingly applying Scarlett O’Hara as my pseudonym on occasion with friends and family. Spoiled, for me, meant that ...

Pros: Everything. Cons: Nothing.
I rarely re-read any books, I've only re-read maybe three or four in my entire life; Khaled Hosseini's first novel, The Kite Runner, is one of those books. Set in the country of Afghanistan, The Kite Runner tells the tale of the heartache of a nation at ...

Pros: great, fast read Cons: a bit "soap opera' like
I read a lot of books and this is without a doubt my favorite of this year so far. Actually it’s probably one of the best books I have ever read. In a nutshell, the book talks about the friendship between Amir, the son of a well-to-do Afghani and his ...

Pros: A touching tale of father and son in 60's Afganistan. Cons: This story is hard to take emotionally.
This well written story is about a young boys life in Afganistan. This tale is one of the most lyrical, moving and unexpected books I have ever read. The Kite Runner follows Amir, as he faces the challenges that confront him as he grows up. His ...

Pros: perfect from the first page Cons: It is hard to read the graphic and emotional parts
I thought The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini was one of the most beautifully written books I have ever read. It was a requirement for an English class I just took and so it kind of fell in to my lap. I am very happy I read this book and loved the ...

Pros: Engaging, well-written narrative. Good word choice and vivid descriptions. Cons: Some descriptions are a bit graphic, although necessary and I'm sure accurate.
Growing up in middle class America, I was taught that there are people suffering all around the world. I was even taught that people in Afghanistan are suffering for simple pleasures we take for granted. But, my eyes were never opened to the level of ...

Pros: very riveting, different perspective, very well written Cons: a little predictable toward the end
I received this book for Christmas and had my doubts about it. It turned out to be a very good book in my opinion. The plot (without giving away too much) is about an Afghani boy, Amir, who makes a mistake and a good portion of the rest of his life is ...

The Kite Runner…Uncomfortable, carefully surprising…intense and skillfully written.
by meyersfitness ,Jul 20 '09
Pros: Eye opening, humbling and more than worth the treacherous journey you won't forget. Cons: Not a happily everafter story, painful at times.
This story was so uncomfortable. It made me feel spoiled and unappreciative. I had no idea the struggles people go through, how unfair life can be. It gave me such a appreciation for the freedoms and comfort of this great country, The United States of America. Is it any wonder people give so much to be here. The Kite Runner was brilliantly written, hard to believe it is Khaled Hosseini’s first novel. The pages turned easily, forcing me along though a visual journey created with words skillfully placed. Some views were painful but very necessary. To know the misfortune and horror is to know the deep love for family, friends and freedom. I would highly recommend The Kite Runner, if only to give you clarity and understanding for this long suffering country and it’s people.
