Triport are Junk
by oanda ,Jan 14 '06
Pros: Great Sound, that all Cons: Inferior product design, product will eventually break on headband.
My experience is POOR! I purchased the product for quality sound and I do love the sound, however the Engineers at Bose Corp. should be fired! I loved the sound of my first pair so much that I purchased my second set of head phones - shortly after this my nightmare began. In a year and a half, I have had to send both pairs of Triport headphones back to Bose Corp. and not just once but twice! This product is JUNK, but it does sound good. I urge anyone who has purchased a pair, to send them back if they can because eventually they will break. I also urge anyone who has a pair that is broken to send them back.

Triport poor construction
by cycledoc ,May 05 '06
Pros: Handy packaging. Good sound Cons: Cheap flimsy construction
I like the earphones and find the sound quality to be quite good.
Unfortunately, the quality of construction leave much to be desired. In the two and an half years I've owned them they've broken twice--I'm a sixty five plus senior and believe me I do not abuse them. The first time the metal piece that extends into the plastic connector between head piece and ear-piece pushed through the plastic retainer. Bose to their credit replaced the earphone. More recently and out of warranty, the metal piece simply separated from the ear-piece.
After so many years in the business charging premium prices you would think Bose products would have quality durable construction. Unfortunately not. Next time I won't buy Bose.

Amazing
by oberseite ,Feb 19 '05
Pros: Amazing sound quality, excellent bass, VERY comfortable, good style. Cons: None. I couldnt be happier.
Two words: Simply amazing. I dont know what all these other people are complaining about with these headphones. The headphone top does seem flimsier than normal, but i havent broke them. These are probably the BEST headphones i've ever had. The bass is amazing, and the clarity in them is like nothing i have ever heard. Not only will you be totally involved with these when you are listening, you will find anyway possible to use them. I listened to Armaggeddon with these the other day, and i really felt like i was in the movie. No other sounds to bother me, or anything that could keep me from enjoying the movie. I took them on my recent flight to Seattle, and i couldnt hear the Jet Engine ANY time i had them on, even on low volume. They really dont get hot when you listen to them very long. They get slightly-but not noticeably-warm on the cushions (typical). If you are really into movies and listen to music all the time like i do, get these. You wont be dissapointed! The price is a bit much, but totally worth it.

Bose Triport headphones break easily
by cpmuzzy ,Aug 15 '05
Pros: Great sound; comfortable even when worn for long periods. Cons: Break easily where stem connects to earpiece; expensive
I just broke my 2nd set of Bose Triport headphones. In each case, they broke within several months. Otherwise, I really like the product. The sound is excellent, and they are quite comfortable. The problem--in both cases--is the area around the swivel where the headpiece connects to the earpiece. There is a weak point that fragments bits of plastic, then breaks off. Cheap plastic, apparently.
Either I am really unlucky to have this happen twice, or this is a problem and is happening to a lot of people. I should point out that I do not abuse the headphones, or travel with them a lot. They sit at my computer until used.
As I said, I love the sound quality and the comfort, but for the cost, they should be a lot tougher.

Pros: Beautiful sound quality, amazing sound Cons: not worth the (very, very cheap) plastic its made from....
I loved the sound quality and did not mind the very high price (sold for approx. equivalent to US$200 here in Malta). But the plastic material making up the frame - Wow I have yet to see cheaper material, it's not even used on the old time ex-eastern bloc car models!!! It gave way repeatedly, I managed to get a replacement under warranty, but the plastic frame on the replacement also broke - and all this in less then a year. The only positive side in all this horror story is that I managed to get a full refund (though it seems that the mother company still denied any similar weakness - but I am sure I am not the only one with this experience)

Pros: Overall sound quality...comfort Cons: Durability!!!
Sound quality is good but poor durability. I was simply removing them from their bag and the speakers both snapped off the headpiece. Very disappointing.

Bose Delivers, but beware breakable headpiece
by ninehalo ,Nov 20 '04
Pros: Great sound, bass, and comfort Cons: No volume control, fragile plastic headpiece
I bought these to listen to my computer audio when my family is sleeping.
I had purchased a Sennheiser SX-200 pair for $30, and found them uncomfortable over long periods and weak in bass. I decided to lay out the $150 for these, which I had tried at the Apple store.
I was pleased to find that they behaved as well as I expected. Music sounds great and bass booms and is perfectly fine. (You can feel the puffs of air on your hand from the bass) They are also very comfortable.
I only wish that they had a volume control, because it's difficult to change volumes while I'm playing video games.
***UPDATE: After about 3 months a plastic piece broke on the headset. It detached one of the earpieces. Bose support asked me to mail it back to them, and a new one arrived 5 weeks later.

bose is expensive for a reason
by lanzy ,Jul 27 '05
Pros: the looks and the great sound, as well as the policy from the bose outlet. Cons: price, you cant listen monitor style, portability.
these heaphones got a 5 from rolling stone mag, and I can see why. The highs are so clear and the bass is just how it is supposed to be (not over powerful and washed out). What I really love about these headphones is the comfort. The ear pads they have supplied are oh so soft, and they actually cover your ears instead of pinching them against you head (like the panasonics I bought a month ago).
Triports are also great for any musician who needs to have some great earphones to play their instrument in privacy with. They come with a gold coated adapter, and when you plug them in dont be surprised if they sound better than the amp itself. They work especialy well with my bass guitar, and they never cut out or crackle, like the panasonics.

Sound great - BREAK OFTEN
by shtoeta ,May 26 '05
Pros: Sound, lightweight, comfortable Cons: Poor construction of headband, Plastic cracks and falls apart
I've gone through THREE of these suckers in the last couple years. They sound gorgeous, they are lightweight, comfortable ... and the cheap plastic construction on the headband part breaks within weeks. I took a precaution with my third set and pre-taped where the cracks usually formed ... went to put them on today and there were about 6 fissures through the plastic! They just disintegrated.
And just to clarify, I keep them at my desk at work ... so I've not been rough with them at all.
I bought the product replacement plans before (which have cost me $50 each time I get them replaced) ... but, now I'm gonna look for a better made brand.

Well worth the money!
by isarmich2 ,Mar 22 '06
Pros: Excellent sound reproduction - great bass! Cons: None
I've had these headphones for about 3 years. The quality is superior to any headphone I've ever had before. I use these headphones just about every day and sound as good as I bought them 3 years ago.

Not Worth a penny over $30
by yibok ,Jan 31 '06
Pros: Average headphones at best Cons: Limited volume. Average base. Upper range sound clarity is weak. No pure solo quality.
Very disappointing. The Bose Triports didn't have the volume, base, or upper range that my old Koss $19 headphones have. I really don't understand all the hype & positive reviews? I wouldn't recommend the Triport to anyone. They aren't high-end headphones. I listen to jazz and the trumpet solo sounded like a distant tweetie bird.

LOW QUALITY!
by reaserchiskey ,Feb 21 '04
Pros: ?????NONE Cons: QUALITY AND PRICE
I purchased these headphones off the rack and unheard, I was going off the GREAT BOSE REPUTATION, my mistake. I should have referred to Epinions, as I do now, before making that buy. I had the headphones for less than a week before the headband broke while I was making adjustments. What kind of light weight CHEAP PLASTIC headphones did I get for $130.00. The kind that say BOSE. I was happy but not impressed with the sound quality, the fit was comfy but that cheap headband was the kicker. Look elsewhere and take all reviews from the best to the worst into consideration before buying anything of value, just because a company has a good name does not exclude them from making a LEMON!

Wow, I'm happy
by cduncan ,Feb 24 '04
Pros: Superior to any earbud or open ear headphone that's available. Cons: The warranty extension on these things is $99. That's absurd.
I bought two things last Saturday: My Bose Triports and a new vacuum cleaner. I bought the Triports because I wanted really good sound at the gym and these offered me light weight with an ear cup that drowns out the extraneous noise of all the other sweat hogs on the tread mills. I bought the vacuum because...yeah, well that's another story. I took my Sony MiniDisc with me when I shopped and couldn't believe the highs and lows I'd had NOT BEEN HEARING with my cheapo earbuds and headsets. I promptly went home and slammed some music into my ears. Then I turned on my new vacuum and cleaned the whole house. I was at just mid-volume and never heard the vacuum the entire time. If I'd been using my earbuds I'd have had volume at the highest levels and still been fighting to hear the music. Overall, I get better sound reproduction while doing much less damage to my aging ears. Expensive? Yeah. But I don't have to do any more searching through the tons of cheap trash 'buds and 'phones hanging on the department store racks.

Nice, but not worth the money AT ALL.
by jkontur ,Nov 26 '04
Pros: Comfortable Cons: Price, lack of bass
I purchased a set of Bose Triport (blue) headphones about 2 weeks ago. I had heard them at a Bose store a few months ago and had to have them. The comfort is amazing and the sound was unbelievable. ON THEIR SYSTEM. I purchased these headphones to use with my Ipod. The sound that I was hearing once I tried them with my Ipod was not the same sound. The bass was not there...so I tried them with my Kenwood home stereo. They sounded good, but not $150 good. Not even close. I took the advice that some of the other reviewers wrote- I returned my Bose headphones and bought a pair of Sennheiser HD-497's. Completely amazing, at half of the cost. The highs are better, the mids are better, and the bass is better. Please take your Bose headphones back and purchase a pair of HD-497's. You won't be disappointed. Thanks

Worth every dollar for $60. NOT worth $150.
by jesda ,Dec 27 '04
Pros: Sound quality, style, noise blocking Cons: Cheap hardware, unreasonable price
I gave this an extensive demo at the Bose store in St Louis. I was impressed with the clean highs. The bottom end was a bit weak but the exceptionally clean reproduction throughout the rest of the sound spectrum made up for it.
They also do an excellent job of blocking outside noise.
What many fail to do at a store is examine the quality of the hardware. The plastic felt cheap, the connecting seemed flimsy, and the price was astronomical.
At $60, it would have been a fair price. At $150, its completely unreasonable.
So would I buy these? Yes.
Would I buy it at the price offered? No.
If you do buy them, look into an extended warranty in case the headband or wires fall apart. Actually, dont bother buying them at all.
Suggested Alternatives:
Grado SR60 - $70-100 -- Better sound quality than Bose, half the price. They arent as stylish, but if youre at home who cares?
Radioshack Titanium series - $50-$70 -- The midrange isnt as good, and the highs are 'brighter' which some may not prefer. But overall these are an excellent value, and can be easily serviced or replaced nationwide.
