Pros: Quiet, comfortable, firm handling with performance-rated tires Cons: Make thumps over tar strips
The Bridgestone Potenza RE92 has been a good value in a performance tire for several years. I now have two different sizes of this tire on two different cars -- both Subarus -- and I also had this tire on my old Audi 5000. Bridgestone fell onto ...
As I stated in my review of the 2002 Maxima, one of the weakest links to these cars is the tires. The Bridgestone Potenza RE92 has been standard on A33 Maxima SEs with the 17" wheels since 2000. The size is 225/50/17 which happens to be a unique size. ...
Pros: low price, decent looking Cons: high road noise, bad wet weather and HORRIBLE snow traction
These came with my 2001 Toyota Solara. They had only 10k miles on them, so why not squeeze another season out of them. First thing I noticed was these are a bit loud. I could hear the tires running rough even on fresh new pavement. Thennnn it ...
Pros: Smooth , quiet ride. Cons: Traction in wet, nail attracting tires.
Ok.... Leased a 2007 AWD Subaru Impreza and they stick OEM Bridgestone Potenzas on here. Ouch.... Not the Good Potenzas either like on the Sti. We get the OEM RE92A versions. 205/55/16 V89 - 200 wear rating I believe. You can look it up on ...
Pros: Good dry grip and handling, only moderate noise. Wet weather handling is standard. Cons: Substandard wear resistance (dependent on tire rating).
I notice many reviews slam the Bridgestone Potenza RE92's wet weather handling and traction. I have a 2003 Subaru Impreza WRX with these tires. I've experienced no outstanding problems with these tires in wet weather that I would not experience with ...
It is nothing short of a crime for Firestone (Bridgestone) to manufacture a tire with such weak sidewalls. While Firestone claims that they are good tires, it seems almost impossible to find them since they are only OEM's. If they were a decent tire, ...
To the Trash Heap After 22,000 Miles by mrpaladin ,Jun 22 '05
Pros: Came "free" with my new car. Cons: Needed replacement after 22k miles, bad traction in wet weather.
These tires came with my new 2003 Toyota Camry. My mechanic friend verbally trashed them immediately, then literally trashed them two years and 22,000 miles later.
A nail in a bad spot which was pulled and plugged forced the issue. While replacing the four Potenzas with Goodyear Regattas, my pal noted that all of them were worn down on their inside and outside edges, doubtless due to persistent under-inflation; however, he stated that even if they'd been properly inflated, they'd have only lasted 8,000 - 10,000 more miles.
In any case, the tread which bleeds water to the outer edges of the tires was so worn down that the water channels were severed and no longer existed. Perhaps this explains why my front wheels always spun (i.e., no traction) when I hit the accelerator pedal from a dead stop on rainy days -- although I noticed this problem from Day One.
My new Regatta-2 tires have made quite a difference -- the car handles better, rides better and more smoothly, and has much better traction in wet weather.
Not in a league with the best Potenzas by davidnat ,Jan 30 '06
Pros: -Nice looks
-Good dry traction Cons: -Poor wear for a tire with this level of traction
-Wet performance
-Handling
Be careful when purchasing tires. A name like "Potenza" or "Energy" or "Eagle" is applied to many models of tire, often with very different characteristics. This tire, the RE92, is original equipment on many cars and is offered at some major club stores as a replacement tire. Bridgestone has some very high-performance Potenza tires, but these are not those.
They have a nice look, and decent dry traction. Road noise is fair, handling is fair. Wet traction borders on poor. Treadwear is low, I only got 40K miles in mild driving. For tires that wear out after 40,000 miles, I'd expect much better traction and handling.
I think they made too many compromises with this tire, trying to achieve good comfort and noise in sporty applications, and ending up with a tire that doesn't give traction commensurate with its wear characteristics.
Look at some other Potenzas, Some of the excellent Turanzas out there, but forget about the RE92.
Pros: Not much Cons: dangerous, extremely bad in water during mild rain. Would not buy.
I have a 2005 Subaru Impreza with Bridgeston Potenza RE92, 16 inches and they will get me killed. On rainy day, way below speed limit, I am all over the place when I drive. Today, I ended up in the opposite lane and had to work hard to regain control on the car! Honest, I am scared. If you know of anybody, or are, experiencing this, please let me know. matatiloulou@hotmail.com
Pros: dry grip and low noise Cons: awful winter traction and so-so tread wear
I got these as original tires on a Subaru WRX. Handled well in the dry for an all season tire. At highway speeds in the rain the tires felt vague and disconnected, but never did anything to surprise me. However, in the snow they were just terrible. They did much worse than other all season tires I have driven.
Pros: Great Learning-to-Rally Tire Cons: Could be dangerous in an "open road" setting
The Subaru Outback XT is a great car, and these are great tires to learn to drive it with. You can drift corners at extremely low speed. I feel that this is an important safety feature. With good tires, you would have to go fast to drift corners in a Subaru, but with these "training tires" you can really get the car sideways at safe, low speeds. On snow, they are an absolute blast!!! You get the feeling of going really fast, but you aren't. Then after about 10,000 miles when these are bald and you go find something/anything better, you will have a good feeling for how to control your car in the unpredictable situations of every day driving. I highly recommend getting a set, burning through them in a controlled setting, then putting some good tires on your car.
Original Tires on my 2004 Outback Limited by spider-bob ,Mar 03 '08
Pros: Great tire, good traction in wet and dry. Cons: None ... maybe the price, but then again look how long they last.
Very nice tire. Have 111,780 miles on these tires and I have some tread left. these tires are the ones that were on the car when I bought the car in Mar/2004. Just had a flat last week, so decided to get 4 new tires. I've had RE92 on my last 3 Subarus, never any complaints. Last car the tires lasted well over 60,000 miles.
