Pros: comfort, support for overpronation, price, looks Cons: none, honest!
I can leap over tall snow piles in my way, fly over those nasty patches of ice without slipping, run like the wind to my waiting coach (oops, wrong story, I mean phone booth!), tread on (frozen) water if I must rescue a person in silly footgear and...
Pros: Perfect shoe to cure posterior tibial tendonitis (shin splints)even for light runners Cons: None
I'm 5'-10" and weigh 155. Very flat-footed and determined to be a "moderate pronator". I have tried running countless times only to be stopped by VERY painful shin splints (posterior tibial tendonitis). I raced bicycles for ten years and after being hit...
Pros: Outstanding comfort, stability, and durability, not NEAR as ugly as Beasts used to be! Cons: Rather heavy (no big surprise), gets inexplicably hot with some socks.
THIS REVIEW IS SPECIFICALLY FOR THE BROOKS BEAST XT
Bigger runners have a rough life. Sneered at by the Kate-Moss-esque running elite, Clydesdales often (hell, usually) labor in obscurity, pounding the pavement and trails with reckless...
Pros: Excellent support, good for flat-footed and heavier runners, good motion control Cons: Price, weight
--2003 update--
Yet another update, this time for 2003 model. I'm still happy with this shoe, and I'm 20 pounds lighter than back when I bought the 2000 model. Marathon time has gone from 5:30 to 4:15 (let's hear it for the benefits of running!)...
Pros: Good, stable shoe. Lots of support. Cons: Heavy, not very cushioned.
I bought a pair of Brooks Beasts about six months ago, and use them for running and walking, even though I know walking is going to break them down for running. I noticed a big difference the second I started using them. I am totally flat-footed and...
Pros: Excellent foot stability, durable and tough Cons: A little heavier than the average running shoe
I have two pair of Brooks Beasts. It is the only running shoe I use for running right now. What I like about the Beast is its wide heel base. I have had ankle problems in the past (from street basketball) and a wide heel base is a must for me. My old...
I had worn other running shoes over and over again, not quite finding the "aaahhh" factor. Finally, during training for my second marathon, I noticed that a lot of my training buddies were wearing brooks Beasts. Thought I'd give 'em a try,...
Pros: Support, New Insoles, Price, Cushioning, Available Widths Cons: Flexibility
The Beast is truly the most effective motion control shoe on the market today. Each day, as I go into the running store where I work, I know that I will implement the beast for a variety of reasons. This shoe (and its accompanying woman's shoe, the...
To be honest I bought the "Beasts" because they where reduced in price!. I couldn't find my usual runners "Saucony" 3D GRIDS, but since I have worn "The Beasts" I will always look to buy them.
Sorry as it may sound, I was a slave to the media and ran in Nike shoes. Then I was stretching next to a fellow runner who, after some small talk, questioned my shoe selection. He asked if I experienced stiff ankles, sore shins, and sore knees. I...
The nearly perfect shoe! by hornjammer ,Jun 03 '05
Pros: Support, Support, Support. Cons: The front of the sole always peels up. Don't last long. 4Months give or take.
I'm 28 and have recently developed plantar's fascitis.
I have been through many different shoes and boots looking for something that will work. I have found this to be the absolute best solution. The beast by brooks supports your arches and keeps your heel in place. Since wearing these for almost 1.5 years (4 pair) and a few trips to the foot doctor for some cortisone, my feet are doing very well. I give most of the credit to the shoes.
Pros: MOTION CONTROL!!!!!, comfort, very wide stable heel, great room in the toebox. Cons: Nothing, send more
I have nerve damage in my left leg and I am a pronator with flat feet. I was rotating all the way to the side of the shoe. There was no way I could walk far due to the stress on my ankle. And as soon as I put them on I was walking with no roll. It felt odd because I was used to walking with the roll so I have been learning to normal. It feels so good. I'm up from almost nothing to two miles at a time. I never thought a shoe could change things so much.
Pros: Light. Cons: Pricey. Too much structural support, which digs into your foot after 15 minutes.
I just came back from a 3 mile run and my feet are killing me. I needed a lot of structure and went to one of those specialty running stores to get the perfect shoe for my foot. Basically the arch support/structure was digging into my foot. I have indentation on both of my arches and it hurts to walk! Running shoes are very personal, so nothing against the company. These just felt like I had rocks in my shoes and it'll take a day or two to heal. Taking them back right away.
Pros: Helped alleviate SOME knee pain caused by over-pronation Cons: POOR DURABILITY
Bought these shoes at Lamey-Wellehan in Maine on the advice of our son's doctor to correct his over-pronation. At 6-weeks out, these shoes were showing excessive wear. They were worn by a 17 year old, who does not run, or play sports. He wore them mostly while working. He didn't even wear them exclusively during this 6 weeks as he swapped them out with his Crocs. We were very disappointed in the durability and Lamey-Wellehan's handling of the situation. I would not buy these shoes again, and I will take our business elsewhere.
