Pros: 3/4 thread, simple to thread, quality brand Cons: can't do everything--no serger can
Introduction
I have it so easy. About a month ago my husband and I were laying in bed one morning, trying to ignore the fact that our kids were up and demolishing our house—that’s what Saturdays are for.
Pros: Cheap, cheap, cheap, lots of function for price, fast, quiet Cons: Instructional CD's not so helpful, no cover stitch
The Brother 1034D .. A great serger to have around . This is a great serger for someone with general home sewing needs! It is inexpensive and has a ton of features for the money. We have had it in our home for about two ...
Pros: Cheap, threads easy, good three and four thread over lock, and comes with a video. Cons: Marginally adequate rolled hem, came with no oil, and low quality presser feet.
About two months ago, I was bitten by an overwhelming desire to serge. I sew for pleasure and to make gifts for friends and family members. I'm very interested in heirloom sewing, own a basic embroidery machine, and enjoy the idea of making home...
Pros: Cheap, easy to use, great for beginners! Cons: Threading is a little tricky, but gets easier with practice.
I purchased my Brother 1034D from Amazon.com. Since I had not used a serger in years, I was nervous about being able to operate it, but after getting started my fears quickly went away! The serger arrived pre-threaded, so from the moment I opened ...
Pros: Easy to thread, color coded system, easily adjustable foot tension Cons: Not reliable, no storage for accessories
This serger is total crap! I bought it so that I can do my school project at home instead of walking to the school everyday. It works fine one day, put it down, and the next day, I'll pick it up to do a school project, and it won't work! No one's ...
Pros: Easy to thread, Easy to use Cons: Removing one needle is not easy. Rolled hems only work well on certain fabrics.
Pros: Great serger. Does everything that the non-professional could need. Easy to use, easy to set up, does not require prior serger experience. Cutting blade does not need to be sharpened frequently. Deals with heavy weight fabrics without any...
Pros: Easy to use, low cost. Cons: Can be finicky about settings. Must be EXACT in order to achieve correct stitch.
This serger is wonderful. I have yet to try something on it that it cannot do. I got this machine two years ago, and it has held up quite nicely.
As far as the review about the rolled hem, I have tried this, and I have not had any problems. Additionally, as I noted I have had this machine for two years, and it has not needed any service or oilings.
In fact, my mother, aunt, and grandmother are ALL expert sewers, and love the work this machine does. Both my mother and my aunt have more expensive models, and agree that this little cheapie does an as good, if not better job.
Pros: Threading, price, ease of use Cons: no coverstitch (on expensive models)-you may not miss it - twin needle for same look
This serger works great, and has a great price too. Several feet are included (check to make sure not a promotion) and others are available for purchase. There are about 6 available feet, not the dozens available for top line sergers. I would advise test driving top of the line sergers and then seeing if this serger will do all you want it for. Rolled hems - certain fabrics only. No cover stitch. Can have same look as coverstitch by serging, then using a twin needle on your sewing machine to hem. Extremely easy to thread, great booklets and videos/DVDs, low price. Very hardy, noise comparable to other brands. I bought this one 1st, then wanted a cover stitch so bought one of those for quite a bit more $, but I still use this one because it's so easy to use. It's a great serger. Tensions work well too.
Pros: Inexpensive and easy to use Cons: None that I've found!
I've had this serger for about 3 weeks now. What a dream to sew on. You can't beat it for the price. I bought it at Amazon for $199.00. I've been making baby blankets with an awesome finished edge. I never owned a serger before and this was a perfect one to start with. The dvd's that came with it helped alot.
Pros: The pop out section for sewing hems. Easy to thread. Instructions are easy to follow. Cons: Sometimes smells like sewing machine oil, I'm sure it will go away with time.
I purchased this machine over a month ago and have not had any issues. It does a great job! I have sewn over 15 projects without a problem. I recommended the machine to my sister who purchased one also. She loves it. I really like the free arm conversion section for sewing shirt sleeves and hems on pants. The instruction book was very easy to follow. The feet are easy to change and I like that it came with the blind hem and gathering feet. I have used both, and they work great. The instruction CD's were very informative. I have been sewing for over 35 years and I own seven different sewing/embroidery/serger machines, this one is by far the simplest to use. Three of the machines I own are Brother and I have not had any problems so far. The differential feed control dial works great. The removable stitch finger is easy to remove and install and has a place to store it when it is not in use. I am very impressed with this machine for the price.
