by mrkstvns Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, May 05 '09
Pros: Cheap, fast, great quality output, easy setup, plenty of features
Cons: No USB cable, high cost of drum replacement, minor wishes for feature enhancements
Perfectly suited to home or small business use, the Brother HL-2140 is a printer that makes some tradeoffs in technology, but delivers outstanding value when it comes to the bottom line. Economy is the single best reason to love the Brother HL-2140, but ...

love my new laser brother HL 2140

by applegate48 , Sep 07 '08
Pros:

Easy setup. Fast warmup. Fast printing. Print quality very good.

Cons:

Cost of drum greater than price of printer.

I finally decided to buy a laser printer when my lexmark inkjet printer ran dry. I was so disappointed with the lexmark because the last cartridge only printed about 50 pages. I didn't want to spend another $20 for another cartridge and worry about how ...

Work well
by rubyrail ,Feb 25 '08
Pros: Work well
Cons: none
We bought Brother Printer last month for my home and it is working well. It's ok for 4-5 prints a day. We bought it in $97 and $20 mail in rebate total $77. It's oki in $77.

I was looking for an inexpensive printer and my criteria was to print in 8.5'x12 paper, it has settting for paper other than A4 size so i bought it, It was mainly used for printing my project report.
It's quite compact and quite easy to use.

Nice, Cheap Printer with a minor quirk
by oceansunset79 ,Aug 15 '08
Pros: Fast warm-up/print-out, good quality prints, relatively quiet, optional toner-save mode, inexpensive, no paper jams yet!
Cons: Room lights flicker when running, cheap plastic parts, puts out fumes (got a headache)
This is the first laser printer I have ever purchased and am overall very satisfied with it. Much faster and more cost effective per page than an inkjet that constantly runs out of ink every few months (dries up quickly). Also nice that when the pages are printed out you don't need to worry so much about the ink smearing due to being wet. I had read in other reviews online that there are some issues with paper jams, but I haven't had any problems with that yet. Fast, cheap printer with good to very good quality prints. Hope it holds up!

Check out Samsung ML2510 instead
by ainahouhale ,Feb 21 '08
Pros: Compact, affordable, workgroup, high speed B&W
Cons: High drum cost. Samsung ML2510 may be better but no workgroup printing.
I was shopping for an inexpensive black & white printer for home use today, to print text mainly - no color, no photos. At office Depot I found the Brother HL2140 for $120 minus a $50 instant rebate minus a $20 mail-in coupon for a total of $50. But the salesman talked me out of it because he said it doesn't have a toner cartridge but rather you have to replace the "drum", and that would cost $130 to $180 he thought. He recommended the HP Laserjet P1006 for $180.

At Office Max, the salesman recommended the Saumsung Laser Printer ML2510. It listed at $130 but had a $60 instant rebate for a total price of $70. The epinion reviews on this machine are very favorable, so I'm going to buy this machine instead.
