Pros: Quiet, reliable, fast and quick 1st page output. Cons: Flimsy manual input tray, light copies.
I bought the MFC-8660 DN to replace an aging (and slow) Xerox XD-100. I was a little skeptical at first because some of the doors, trays, etc. on the Brother looked a little "flimsy" and I thought "this thing will break real soon". That was six months ...
Pros: Fast, top quality, good value. Cons: A bit noisy
I recently started a small business and needed a good quality printer, as the core of my business is the production of text documents. I knew that I wanted a laser printer and started to shop around for HP products (almost all of my other equipment is ...
Pros: Duplexing (front-back printing & scanning), Easy front panel controls, Speed (30 ppm), large output tray Cons: Multi-purpose tray is a little flimsy, but with care works fine
We have the 8860 DN in our small home office for about a month now and are very, very pleased. The page counter is over 2000 and we haven't had a single paper jam, even when we used a special paper that typical jams in our printer. We have used it ...
Pros: Fast, Good Features, Good Operating System Support, Networked. Cons: Price, Tricky Envelope Printing..
This printer has network options which came in very handy, and were one of the reasons I got the printer - my old Laerjet 1000, was not compatible with OSX and going to XP just to print was becoming a pain. While I saw other lower priced ...
Pros: Very fast; duplex capability; USB, Parallel, and ethernet connections; and its a laser. Cons: No color support, but those run another $300 at the minimum.
We purchased this product about 3 months ago. We bought this product because my wife wanted the duplex capability for home-schooling. We love the speed and ease of us for this product. We have a 4ppm HP Laserjet 4P that I bought while in college 12 ...
Pros: quick, good paper handling, easy to use Cons: print is a bit light, but is adjustable. Munches envelopes - curls output, otherwise excellent!
This MFC-8860DN works extremely well. I was able to eliminate my (just died) fax machine plus an old laser printer/sheet scanner with this one machine. Scanner on the laser had just died too when this MFC came up on Craigslist second-hand, so it worked ...
Pros: reliable and full featured Cons: need to use at least 24lb stock...otherwise pages may curl.
I've had this MFD for about 6 months now. I think it was a great purchase. I have it plugged in to my network and love how I can scan to pdf. It integrates nicely with Outlook email. Before I got the Brother MFD, I bought a similar HP for my business. Although much more expensive, it has fewer features and jams more. I would highly recommend this Brother unit.
Pros: If it works, it's fast with good quality. Cons: It doesn't work reliably and service is horrible. Long wait on help line.
I purchased the MFC8860DN to replace a HP multifunction that was 3 years old and too slow and expensive for my needs. The Brother was easy to set up and I had it connected and ready to go in about 20 minutes, but when I turned it on I immediately got a cooling down message and couldn't print or use the copier. After about 45 minutes the cooling down message went off and I printed a few pages to see how it printed. The printing was very good and fast and I thought I had a good solution but the machine has continued to randomly generate the cooling down messages and now it won't even turn on.
Update : After dropping my machine at a service center 40 miles away and waiting two weeks for parts, the machine still doesn't work and parts will be backordered another month or more. I opted to call and have the unit replaced and they may send me a refurbished unit. If you order one and it's defective get a different brand.
Will update in a few weeks (months, years) on progress.
Pros: fast, and quiet, with ease of setup Cons: Absolutely none so far,
I bought the Brother MFC-8860DN after considerable research, and experience with HP and Minolta QMS printers.
I just picked it up today, and so far am most impressed. It is fast, quite, and copy quality is excellent. I was particularly happy with the ease of setup. I have found the Minolta 3100DN I have a real pain to setup. Every time something changes, e.g. the router, it can take several hours to get it to be recognized by my PCs. The brother worked first time over my network, without a glitch.
So far most impressed, and would buy again. Will report back in a month or so after living with it for a few days
Pros: Features Cons: Cartridges are expensive. Print quality is not up to HP standards.
Don't get this machine if you like to use the toner cartridge until you see the print quality diminish. This machine will suddenly decide that the toner cartridge is empty and completely stop. You MUST replace the cartridge before it will print again. I verified with Brother that this is not a fault with my machine, but is the way it was designed. I use this machine primarily for printing and copying, but those functions are shortchanged in the instructions. You do get a lot of info about FAX functions. The bypass tray is a little clunky and often it takes paper from the main tray rather than from the bypass tray. Several times I have had to put the one sheet of special stock into the main tray to get it printed.
Pros: Very few. It actually prints & faxes a majority of the time. Cons: I must have gotten a lemon--full of bugs & problems
I bought this unit at Costco (they don't carry it anymore) in March 2007. I write this in July 2009. I can't wait to get rid of it. I have owned HP multi-units in the past & they simply didn't have near the poor design & poor performance of this one. For some reason the "No Paper" warning comes up on a constant basis-- there is a full ream in the tray! I have to reboot everything & call Brother to dicker with it & get it cleared. I've had loud banging noises upon paper reload. I've had End of Drum is near, right after replacing the drum. The single feed tray (for envelopes, etc.) needs constant babying & manual set up. I don't like the fact that I can't get an automatic fax confirmation, like I could with my HP unit. It is an enormously complex and non-user friendly item that needs constant babying. I bought a lemon & shame on Costco for getting into this piece of junk. It is a small-office nightmare. Run, don't walk away from this ghastly Brother LEMON!
DOES NOT DUPLEX COPY 8860DN by richdayton ,Feb 25 '08
Pros: Except for duplex it works great. Cons: Deceptive advertising re: duplex copying
Despite the advertising and user guide for model 8860DN the machine does NOT duplex copy without first scanning the papers and then duplex printing. Once you turn on the scanner the bulb stays on for 16 HOURS yes HOURS or you shorten the life again per the book.
Watch out or you will be duped into thinking it duplex copies.
