Brother XL-2600 Mechanical Sewing Machine

Pros: Button hole maker, blind hem stitch, light weight, plenty of different stitches, easy to use.
Cons: Not much. Instruction book could be better but DVD helps.

Pros: Great uncomplicated sewing machine.
Cons: Really none I can think of. Maybe a carry handle would be nice.

This machine is great for new or part time sewers. It's not complicated to use but still does a lot of different things like button holes, 25 different stitches and some other things. Probably much more then I actually use.

Actually it's almost idiot proof in how it works. It's very forgiving for the beginner sewer who doesn't know how things are suppose to work. It seems to adjust to different materials and threads without me doing much of anything. I can't imagine how great it would be if i actually knew what I was doing! ;-)
I am very happy with this machine and have used it to make small quilts, handbags, dolls and doll clothes and some basic garments like hats, scarves and tops.
I will probably trade up eventually if I end up sewing more involved quilt projects or clothes but for now this is perfect.
I would highly recommend this machine for beginners, or people who just want a machine for basic sewing of quick projects.
