Pros: Just about everything. Cons: Isn't as great as you'd hope.
I have a way of classifying movies. Lately, in Hollywood's films, the two most significant types of flicks have been Stereotypically Great Movies (i.e.: Fight Club), and Stereotypically Good Movies (i.e.: 25th Hour). And then, in the middle of ...

Pros: Bruce Campbell and Ossie Davis Cons: Some overly crude parts
When I first heard about Bubba Ho-Tep, I tried everything I could to go see it in a theater. The closest it came to near where I live was New Orleans, which is only about 70 miles away, but I couldn’t get coordinated enough to go see it. Now it is out ...

Pros: Bruce Campbell is Elvis Presley. Cons: Not enough singing....no immediate plans for a franchise.
I have heard, more than once, a theory pertaining to Hollywood films and there only being some small number of story ideas. These ideas are then given their own characteristics, but when you get down to the nuts and bolts it's all the same. You combine ...

Pros: Very original story, well acted. Cons: some parts of the movie don't add a whole lot.
Do you like zombie movies? Do you like horror comedies? Are you thinking about Evil Dead? Have I got a movie for you. In a world where the quality of a movie and not its advertisements sold tickets Bubba Ho-Tep wouldn't be totally unheard of. I ...

Pros: Unbelievably absurd premise results in surprise amounts of laughter, creativity, and imagination. Cons: A few slow scenes - made up for by the movie's brazen audaciousness.
Bubba-Ho-Tep Directed by Don Coscarelli Don't mess with the King. If you have ever wondered what it would be like to have Elvis Presley and John F. Kennedy alive and (almost) well fight an ancient Egyptian mummy in a rest home in ...

Pros: Elvis and JFK battle evil? This is better than Superman and Batman! Cons: Virtually everyone else in the film comes off as weak. Is humanity so flawed?
Back in the 1960s, drive-in theaters would offer double features, generally 'B Movies' geared exclusively for the teenaged market. It would not be uncommon to see an Elvis Presley musical paired up with a low budget monster film. The Elvis movies ...

Pros: Great performances. Cons: The story bogs down a bit in spots.
Joe R. Lansdale is arguably one of the most distinctive voices in American literature. Best described as the melding of Flannery O’Connor and Joe Bob Briggs, Lansdale has been writing twisted, entertaining fiction that spans genres for decades now. Wi ...

Pros: Funny, charming, a well told tale Cons: Too many flashbacks and dick jokes
Bubba Ho-Tep begins with a few shots of dull, dirty, identical hallways, which serve to give audiences the impression that they are being led to the most depressing place on earth. And they are. Welcome to the Shady Pines Rest Home of Mud Creek Te ...

Pros: Bruce Campbell is great as Elvis, and Ossie Davis is a delight as JFK Cons: too slow
I was excited to be invited to a recent press screening of Bubba Ho-Tep, a new film directed by Don Coscarelli (Phantasm) and starring Bruce Campbell (The Evil Dead) and Ossie Davis. I had seen flyers and other promotional items for this film at several ...
