Pros: structured setting, organized community outings, funded by Regional Center
Cons: waiting list, can be expensive if funding not possible, no website for information
Now is the time to make preparations for summer camp. Both my children attended C.A.M.P. - Children with Autism Making Progress last summer. This is located in South Pasadena, California. Please refer to the essay ...
Pros: 6 structured hours daily by people trained with issues autism causes; 1st class, a/c'd facilities/staff. Cons: My kid sometimes modeled undesirable behavior demonstrated by others; discussions w/him largely resolved it.
Our son has attended this camp for 2 years now (2005 and 2006--review drop down menu only offers up to 2000, so it was selected). When we drove by the location about 3 months after the 1st year, he spontaneously said "I want to go to Mr. Mike's ...
Pros: Great staff, BI methods and follow through, sensory work, regional center assistance, pure fun! Cons: Deserves more external sources of funding, this place is a jewel that deserves more recognition!
South Pasadena C.A.M.P. (stands for Children with Autism Making Progress) lives up to its name. Having taken my son to different programs and therapies over the years in Los Angeles, I had yet to find a program he not only looked forward to in six short ...
Wonderful program for autistic kids by moneyrat ,Sep 13 '07
Pros: Many different activities, very nice classrooms Cons: Six weeks are too short for us. It ended at the mid-August.
This is our first time to send our 6 yrs-old autistic son to this camp. We got the acceptance notice just few days before the last two weeks of the program (we needed only two weeks). The director Kristin is a wonderful lady who has been working with autistic children more than ten years.
Although my son does have some behavior issues (not sitting down during the beginning & the end of the day),the teachers were very patient with him and asked me not to worry about a thing.
They had water play on the fate grass field and my kid loved it.
If my son's summer school schedule didn't overlap CAMP schedule, I would like him to stay at this camp for the whole 6 weeks.
We are blessed to know this program and it's not too far away from where we live
Pros: Great structured program, Employees are always responsible and caring, Teamwork is essential. Cons: From a business perspective this program should have a better marketing plan.
This camp is great. I've worked here for two years and Ive seen first hand, the improvement in these wonderful kids. I don't work there anymore but still gladly volunteer and would recommend this camp to any autistic child. Kristin Enriquez is inspirational women who greatly understands the needs of both low functioning and high functioning kids with autism. Other reviews say there is no website but there is and its http://www.81x.com/KCapalbo/Camp. Look her up she's an angel.
